Muscle Car Of The Week Video #9: 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Factory Sunroof
This week on Muscle Car of the Week, we celebrate a stunningly restored 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 in the captivating Gulfstream Aqua paint!
Beyond its breathtaking looks, this Mach 1 boasts unique features and historical significance, making it a true collector's dream.
Here's what sets this Gulfstream Aqua Mach 1 apart:
Rare Gulfstream Aqua paint, a standout color compared to the more common reds, blacks, and yellows
One of only two known 1969 Mustangs with a factory-installed sunroof (possibly a Cougar sunroof by ASC)
Powerful 390 cubic inch V8 engine delivering 320 horsepower and 427 lb-ft of torque
Engaging 4-speed manual transmission for a thrilling driving experience
Desirable features like a tilt and swing-away steering wheel and fold-down rear seat
Explore the details of this remarkable Mach 1:
Mach 1 package highlights: reflective stripes, dual side mirrors, hood blackout with pins, non-functional hood scoop (functional on shaker models)
Original options: pop-open gas cap, ultra-rare sunroof (considered original equipment due to pre-delivery installation)
Interior: red accents on seats and carpet, simulated teakwood trim, passenger-side clock, three-spoke steering wheel
Enhanced comfort: over 40 lbs of additional sound deadening for a quieter ride
This Mach 1 is more than just a muscle car; it's a testament to Ford's design innovation:
Showcases the evolution of the Mustang into a more comfortable and refined muscle car
Highlights the enduring popularity of the Mach 1 package with its distinctive looks and performance
This beautiful 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 looks great thanks to its pristine restoration and soothing Gulfstream Aqua color, and the S-Code 390 / 4-speed Toploader combo makes it a blast to drive. However, one of the most unique features of this Mach 1 is the factory installed steel sunroof... an option that was not offered on the '69 Mustang. It is one of 2 built with the opening roof, and it's another excellent example of the diversity of outstanding Muscle Cars in the Brothers Collection. Watch the video to learn more about this stunning Mustang!

How have I never heard of a Mach One with the 390 in it? I swear my entire life they've always been 351's or 428's

I think the pop open gas cap was standard on the Mach I. The sports roof (fastback) model would have had the standard gas cap. You may want to check this out so that your video is 100% correct. I always enjoy the vids.

The paint on this car had a slightly less than factory style orange peel, but they had a plastic paint protection film on the sunroof to keep it from getting scratched during operation. Because of this, the sunroof does not look as nice as the rest of the car. Check out the still photos at muscle car of the week .com and you can see how nice the paint is.

they didn't research 69 Mustangs very well. The shaker scoop was available will all V-8's 2V and 4V. Only 6's and 302 V-8's could not be ordered with the shaker scoop. And as we all know Mach 1's only came with 351 or larger engines. So shakers were available in all Mach 1's. The car featured here would look much better with gold stripes.

I don't think it really does much, except help cool the engine compartment. You can't really increase the air pressure in the air cleaner, as it's not air tight. You need positive pressure, as made by a supercharger, to increase the power.

Do you know that there were 7 different blue colors for a Mach 1 in 1969? Acapulco/Hulla blue, dresden blue, aztec aqua, gulfstream aqua, winter blue, brittany blue and presidential blue. Freaky isn't it?

The paint is nice but Nathan didn't do it. There's way too much orange peel left for him to have been happy with it. Other that that, nice trip down memory fast-lane.

Bought mine new in 1969. Stolen in 6 months. I did not want it repaired after recovery. What was wrong with it? Snow jammed up the shift linkage, but fortunately I was by a gas station and one block from a job interview. I made it on time and got the job. Second Ford this happened to that I owned new.
More serious was the 351 was too heavy and I needed 3 front end alignments in 6 months. Found out in 2010 from a relative who raced Mustangs there was a fix to reinforce the front.
Snow traction poorest of any car I ever had even with the limited slip differential. Could not get up a 3% grade with so little snow I could still pavement under it.
That was my second and last Ford- found on road dead or fix or repair daily, I forget which. It was nice when it ran and would make a nice collector, but not a daily driver .
