Skeledirge is not that overdesigned, it's a fire crocodile with day of the dead features, and a fire bird companion. Very inspired and has so much going for it. Quaquaval is way too overdesigned, it's way too flamboyant and moves like a women. It's the messiest of all the starter pokemon.

I dont really like the original starter trio to much. I prefer the modern approach to designing starters. One where the pokemon gradually change instead of evolving into a middle evolution only to remove its then gained features when evolving again.
Just to make myself clear. All middle starters are a different color then their first and last evolutions. But the first and last have the same color and ho me is that weird. Also wartortle has this beautiful tale and ears to go along with it. Even some fangs too. All this is thrown out the window.
