    seems like younger people do reactions and constantly ask whats going on yet the film presents all the info you need to understand.like are you reacting to react or are you watching the film???

    • @vintagemovienights
      @vintagemovienights  7 месяцев назад

      Its tricky.....If we just watch, the reaction videos are less compelling and harder to get past copyright claims. So we have to try and balance watching, reacting, and not drinking too much. LOL.

    First of all thank you from the bottom of my heart for reacting to this classic movie. I've loved since it came out and it turned that both of my kids played hockey from about age 6 right thru high school. I can't think of a single kid age mite and above who doesn't know this movie well. It's played on the bus going to and from tournaments - they all know it.
    The movie was written by Nancy Dowd based on the experiences of her brother who was a minor league player. The story is set Charlestown PA. I have read that Newman said that he had never had so much fun making a movie in his entire career. Joe McGrath is the manager the owner is Anita McCambridge. The casting of this movie is absolutely brilliant. Dunlop and his wife were separated. They were not swingers or polyamorous.
    Years ago I took my kids to a minor league game here in town and the Hanson's were special guest. There were more people lined up to get their autograph then there were watching the game. I got pictures of my son and daughter with the Hansons, and yes they had the foil on. As I left I asked them if they ever heard from Hanrahan and without missing a beat one of the Hanson's said, "No but I hear from his wife now and again." LOL!!

    The real team was the Johnstown Jets from Pennsylvania. The Hansons were made up of Dave Hanson and the two Carlson brothers. Dave's character had his last name swapped with the brothers so you got Dave Carlson and The Hansons. Ogie Oglethorpe was a representation of the terrifying Goldie Goldthorpe. Most of the events in the film really happened. The books about the movie are awesome. Next try Goon. I am friends with Doug "the Thug" Smith, who was the inspiration for the movie.

    They had two major professional hockey leagues at the time of this movie, the NHL and the WHA. The WHA merged with the NHL in 1979 and four teams joined the NHL: Edmonton Oilers, Hartford Whalers, Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques.
    Only Edmonton remains in place from the WHA merger. The Jets moved to Arizona to become the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes. The Whalers moved to Carolina to become the Carolina Hurricanes and the Nordiques moved to Colorado to become the Colorado Avalanche.

    This film is loosely based on real events. The hockey player who played olgie, his sister wrote the movie based on his stories. Olgie is now a big hollywood producer.
    Paul Newman said this was his favorite movie.
    The hanson brothers were real trio of brother hockey players. Just before filming one of them was called up to the pros, so he was replaced with a teammate.
    The goalie is from quebec and the old guy is the manager, not owner.

    paul newman is an incredible actor that has done some amazing films. this was not one of them 😏. its in my opinion not even one of the decent sport movies comic or otherwise from the 70's. i like hockey, especially the old school game. but this film was flat in all areas, story, method, comedy and acting. when compared to some of the baseball films it doesn't compare to them which is a sad state of affairs when baseball is more entertaining than hockey. my mark is 2 out of 10. i will agree that its fair to say there strangely isn't enough hockey films available but mighty ducks was well better than this, and the star of that movie was emelio estevez for crumbs sake lol 😏
