I am going on a P&O cruise next year and I got the Deluxe package, it is expensive but at least now I don't have to worry about what I drink and I think I should be able to average 50 quid a day. My previous cruise was with Holland America and you're 100% correct, the Have it All package is by far a far superior package for the same price. When I added the WIFI package also, it did cost me a fair bit more than Holland America package for what is still less

Thank you for this. I'm not a big drinker; I like the occasional pint of real ale/Guinness etc but never lager or cocktails. TBH, I'm quite happy with a coke or a tomato juice ...but these package costs are absolutely INSANE.
We're on Arvia this September and there is no way in hell that we'll be buying a drinks package. I'm gonna be taking cans of coke on board and then buying more at each port stop. I'll also take a thermal mug and some little cordial concentrates. My GF will be having a glass of wine at dinner and the occasional cocktail but that's it; I'm not going on board to be ripped off!

I just finished my first ever cruise on the Iona which was about 2 weeks after the price hike. I can't see how any of these packages are worth it. We payed as we go with the drinks and didn't spend nearly half of what the drinks packages would have cost us and I do like to knock the beer back and my wife enjoys a few cocktails and gins.
I was planning on making a video myself on my thoughts about the drinks package but I think you've answered all the questions I've been asking and what half of the guests i spoke to last week was asking too.

@@sailawaymag Fantastic! As a new cruiser I'm struggling to wrap my head around how the cruise companies can charge so much but I can only guess captive environment. I've been on package holiday's where the all inclusive upgrade was around £10pppd or even less.
Yes we're going on the Aurora in a few months to Hamburg and Bruges so will be interesting to see how that fares up.
Still got some Iona footage to do, shore visits and a ship tour video to upload sometime too.

Hey gents, excellent detail as always, so well researched. We have just got off two weeks on arvia as you know and paid as we went enjoyed ourselves and did not get anywhere near what the package would of cost, it’s a waste of time. One thing I will say in defence drinks prices are very reasonable and the bring on allowance is great as well. Top work

While we feel that the new drink packages still fall very short of the competition out there, we would certainly agree with your observation of P&O's drink prices. They are pretty fair, and that's why we'll continue to pay as we go whenever we sail with P&O :)
Great video, very well put together! I’m now convinced that the drink packages are a pile of rubbish. I remember when P&O used to be good - we’ll stick with Holland America! Hard to believe they have the same parent company

Don’t want to defend them here, but maybe would have been worth mentioning the 10% discount if you buy in advance. And if you’re in the club you also get that discounted off it too. I’m getting offered the deluxe one at £46.66 which is getting ‘closer’.
Also, if you do buy onboard, P&O do seem to give a lot of onboard credit more than most so there’s more to this than just a straightforward price per person.
Thanks for watching Ryan! Thanks for pointing that out, although I'm not sure it would persuade us to take our one of these packages. P&O do offer OBC with Select Fare, but whenever we calculate the difference in cost between Saver and Select fares, it never equates to the OBC or other incentives you get with the premium fare.
Some people will find that these packages offer good value, but for us personally they seem like inferior drink packages and aren't tempted to take them out. We are glad that they have introduced a new top tier package though, as it was very much needed. All the best!
We pay as we go and never have a problem it works out a lot cheaper and we drink what we want when we want it.

We have a p&O cruises planned for November, and I’m most certainly not taking out these packages. I can’t believe how little you get now! I can’t remember but does Holland America go from Southampton?

Hi we are due to be sailing with p&o shortly and have never been on a cruise before we are a family of 4, me my wife and two early teenage children. We got a 20% discount on the classic drinks package when booking which cost £1007 if I remember correctly for a two week holiday. Would it be better to cancel that and go pay as you go? Or would we likely spend that buying drinks anyway? Any advice would be much appreciated
can you use the "free" onboard spending money in bars?
We have just got back from a P&O Aurora and we all had non-alcoholic package. Waste of money and the staff always seemed puzzled if you asked for a beer wine etc knowing you’d be charged. Aurora cruise experience totally underwhelming.

@@sailawaymag hi guys, thinking about trying TUI Marella to Caribbean in 2025, maybe squeeze in a city break taster on one of their ships.
Just booked Ariva and looking at the drinks packages they are an absolute rip off glad you're informing people. We went on Sky Princess last year and their drinks package was only 30 dollar's a day pp which was expensive but no where near as bad as £54.95 pp.

I sailed on the Iona last July. They throttled the availability of premium drinks. Before we even left Southampton they were saying they had run out of Birra Morretti and only had cans of Carling Black Label. P&O Cruise was dreadful

I would not consider a drinks package. I drink so little that the value would not be there. Though I would need to look at the benefits of coffee, which I sometimes guzzle. Thank you for the video!
No problem Daniel! We rarely take out a package, but if we do it's because it offers good value for money! We're not convinced by these packages, and would personally pay as we go when cruising with P&O. It's a shame that P&O have retired their Hot Drinks Package which only cost £10.95pp per day. All the best!
Thanks for the vid. It sounds like P&O have found that most of their (less than) awesome drink packages were only being bought by the money clueless/'money don't matter' demographic. So - rather than becoming more embracing by offering better deals, they are going for squeezing the above/captive audience. Of course, they could see inebriated guests as problematic - so this'll help alleviate that.

P&O seem to do a great job at ignoring what their most loyal customers are saying - they've been doing it for years, which is why so many long-term P&O loyalists have gone elsewhere. Compared to other packages out there, with particular reference to Holland America and Princess, these packages still don't go far enough in our view! Whenever we sail with P&O, we would personally pay as we go! All the best :)
There is likely to be a consideration for British drinking culture. I’d rather a poor value for money drinks package than an all inclusive free for all.
Really find the P&O attitude very strange- almost as though they don't want people to use the bars. I saw very few passengers using the packages on a recent Ventura cruise, yet plenty were taking drinks on board and drinking in their cabins.
We do too - it’s like they genuinely don’t care about what their passengers want! They had a great opportunity to create some exciting and fair packages, and they failed at it!
So now I need the highest drinks package for the same drinks. Very disappointing

If bought before sailing you get 10% cheaper.
Which still doesn’t equate to the price increase!
Very poor drinks package compared with other cruise lines.
We totally agree, HAL defiantly offers the best value for money in our opinion when it comes to drink packages!
People saying it’s not worth either don’t drink much or don’t drink at all because even if u go to one of the included food restaurants u still have to pay for drinks right so I don’t c how it works out less for people who like to drink plus u wouldn’t have to worry about how much your spending on drink surely
Hey, thanks for watching and commenting! The new drinks package compared to the old one gives people a lot less value for their money, however differs from person to person depending on how much they drink 😄
The old packages only had drinks up to 6.95 anything over would have to pay for the whole drink lol
