- This is a step-by-step solution to the question below:
Two 3-phase motors are connected to a 208V 3-phase 60Hz source. Motor #1 has an FLA of 42A with a power factor of 0.82. Motor #2 has an output of 4kW with an 89% efficiency and a power factor of 0.79.
What is the Line Current, and Apparent Power of the circuit?
After correcting the circuit pf to 0.95, what is the Line Current, Apparent Power, and size of the required Delta connected capacitor bank?

After a few years of not doing these calculations I find this brings me right back into the classroom. Really nice videos to keep the edge sharp. Thanks!
Great to hear!
Heartly thank you 😊
thanks for this bud!
You! Mastermind! :D
Thanks for the video. How do you know that they are lagging VARs?
motors are inductive
Exactly. inductors always cause the vars to lag.
How did you get your IL = 18.3A, and in green is it VAr instead of VA?
Just using the same formula that we use through the whole video. Iline = S / (Vline x Root3).
In this cause because it is purely capacitive the VA would equal the VAR, sot hey are the same.
