You can't teach height, the old saying goes. It's used primarily in basketball terms when describing the advantages of tall players over short ones. It's simple; basketball is a sport where verticality rules, and where height and long arms give you a significant running start. In fact, one out of five seven-footers in America played in the NBA. If you are 7-feet, there’s a 20% chance that you’ll go pro, which are some pretty good odds! However, some people defied the odds and were successful NBA players despite the lack of height, and they are the topic of today's video. There have been only 25 players 5'9' or shorter, and here are the top 10 shortest players in NBA history
10 Shortest NBA Players Ever - Спорт
As a 5' 4'' guy, watching muggsy play is something special, that he is literally the ONLY player in NBA history that's shorter than me, and being SO good. Legend.
Yes. But today it is impossible. The shortest player in NBA today is Kennedy Chandler who is 5' 11". This is why I don't like basketball as a lot of the advantage is based on natural height and not skill
@@ninjaninja9954so true. Tako Fall was one of the most unskilled players to be in the nba and he was still there cuz he was over 7 ft. He is 100% worse than most college athletes
Same for me :)... Spud Webb wasn't very tall either, something like 5'5/5'6 barefoot and was able to dunk. Earl Boykins too. Some hope for little guys !
@@ninjaninja9954 lol...why would it be impossible now if it wasn't then? The league average height is slightly less now than it was during Muggsy's career, and the game was more physical then. There's no reason to think he wouldn't be on a roster today if he were born in 2000 or whatever.
so much respect for muggsy, imagine how many people told him he wont make it into the NBA cuz of his size
Romans 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
@@thechannel1098 thats crazy but i dont remember the commentor asking about a lecture on the bible
Messi of basketball
@@djackzdjackz7004 Bruh, messi is not a ''small player'' for football, he is small yes but not for football literally there are players much smaller than him
damn right now I'm 5'6 and I love basketball that I'm traveling to push my goal of going to the NBA one day..if its possible for all these guys.. Shorter guys should be trying to get to the NBA
As a 5"3' guy...i can really feel the pain
Bogues had a powerful physique and his size to strength ratio was second to none. Shoulders, chest, legs were massive in proportion to his height.
I didn’t know it was possible to slam dunk at 5”7! Amazing athletic ability!
yeah you have guys like spud webb who won dunk contest in 1986, quite amazing.
only thing you cant increase after 18 is height, but vertical you still got time.
They can dunk u shouldn't be surprised
There's a dunker that's 5'2
We short guys just looks short but our strength and willpower is much higher than tall folks. We go Super Saiyan mode everytime.
Nice video, RESPECT.
Muggsy is a legend in my eyes
Soccer Dude amen
I am calling him buggzy
I was never even really much of an NBA fan but I loved the Charlotte Hornets in the mid to late 90s. The colors were fresh and they had quite the cast of characters, including Muggsy. Most of my NBA knowledge is stuck in that time period.
Your videos are goated
Loved this vid bro
Muggsy was a beast!!
@Shamone Music dunk king!
Dude my freind said that muggsy bougses was a fake player
@@Daviddaboxer he kinda bad
X
@@jonathansilver6672he wasn't amazing but he was easily the greatest player ever to play at his height with a career heigh of 24 points in a game and 16 points in a play off game is extreamly empresive for his heigh. the man was even able to get 2 blocks in one game which had to have been embracing for whoever he blocked.
I met Muggsy several years ago when my daughter attended his basketball camp in Winston-Salem, NC. A super nice guy.
I don't think we'll ever see another 5'3 player in the NBA during our lifetime
I don't think we'll ever see a 5'3" person in our lifetime.

Muggsy!
One of the shortest and one of the greatest
Irene Rono the shortest
Irene Rono ?
The 1th place
Bogues
One error: Muggsy was not traded to Charlotte. He was selected in the expansion draft and became one of the original and longest-tenured Charlotte Hornets. Of the originals, only Dell Curry lasted longer than Bogues.
There are a few more errors, “3th” graphic, a few mispronunciations.
He was drafted by Washington bullets 12th actually 👍
@@Shmokedoggg Yes, selected out of college (Wake Forest) by the Washington Bullets, then selected after one season in the expansion draft by the Charlotte Hornets.
This is a fairly interesting list.
Nice video
Spud Webb's jumping was pretty damn great for his size
It was just great in general. 46 inch vertical
@@4Scoot5 yeah he was something else though like it looks fake when he does it
This dude won the dunk contest
Spud Webb
Muggsy twice averaged 10 plus assists per game in a season, three times 2 steals a game for a season and hit double figures in points three times as well. Not bad at all!
Guys, dont discourage short people from getting into the sport, just enjoy it, if some short person is good enough to make it to the nba so be it, so many tall and short people just play basketball for fun and never make it to nba. Not everyone needs to become a worldwide pro to play good basketball.
Well put. I'm an inch taller than Muggsy, and if I would've had more quickness, agility, and hops, I would've considered doing the NBA despite not getting recruited.
Thats my feeling to volleyball.

I’m 5ft7. Basketball was always my favourite sport to play in school. My shooting was pretty good and I was getting better at three pointers, but obviously the PE teachers would favour the tall students.
Like - Muggsy Bogues
Comment - Earl Boykins
Don’t ever let anything stop ya dreams 🧡
I’m about half an inch over 5’10. I always thought I was too short for basketball.
These guys have showed me otherwise.
Jordan literally ruined Muggsy's career by calling him a midget and just bullying him on the court.
3th? 2th? 1th? Really? Ever heard of 3rd, 2nd, and 1st?
Lmao "Thearth"
Haha
Earl boykins # tooth

Oh shit I didn't even pick that up....good observation you're the beTH
GOATS in Charlotte sports: Best ever Hornets player Muggsy Bogues 5'3. Best ever Panthers player Steve Smith 5'9. Height doesn't matter. It's all about the heart!!
Muggsy isn't the best Charlotte player
@@nodiggitty I'm a North Carolina resident and have been closely following those teams since the beginning. In my opinion, the best Hornet is Kemba Walker at 6 feet and the best Panther is Cam Newton who's 6 feet 5 inches tall.

Good video, but what about Nate Robinson ?
5'9"
When I was in med school in Tx there was a local high school phenom by the name of Spud Webb. His HS coach had a dunk drill for his players. The tallest starter was 6’ tall; they could all dunk easily. The shortest player was Webb who, at 5’2” could dunk two handed from a standing start.
Dope list, but for some reason it REALLY bothers me that is says "1th" instead of "1st" for Mugsy lol
Mike Tyson wrote the script my bad bro
SPUD WEBB🔥
David Thompson once said that, with a 8 foot high basket, Monte Towe was a fantastic dunker.
I was an avid NC State fan and I could swear that Towe was only a shade over 5ft5.
I played playground ball with Keith Jennings.
Spudd webb is one i grew up with
Muggsy Bogues: 7.7 ppg (.458 fg%), 2.6 rpg, 7.6 apg, 1.5 spg, 0.0 bpg, 1.6 tov
0 blocks a game? He got at least 5 blocks a season
@@nodiggitty 39 total blocks out of 889 games.
I'm not sure I'd put Muggsy over Webb, but those two guys are the list. Nice to see Charlie get called out, too.
Muggy is amazing
6:20 this dudes confusion meter at the max 😂
Hall of Fame player Calvin Murphy!!
The fact that Spud Webb kind a dunk on Kareem is just amazing🤣🤦♂️
A great list, but 😂😂😂 3th, 2th & 1th. Someone didn’t bother checking for typos 😂😂😂

A very very very very very slim chance VERY
No buddy. don’t get ahead of yourself.

I like your cut gee
Mugsy was a beast on the blacktop.
💪🏀
What about Yuta Tubuse he was hyped in Phoenix in his 4 games at 5'7
9:16 "2th"
The fact that you are 5'3 and can dunk on a rim that's 10ft is insane

Mel Hirsch "3th" hahahha
as 57 guy, im proud that my size play in NBA
No way Spud is lower than 2nd. Great achievement to play at these heights in high school or college. Beyond astonishing for the NBA, which is probably the most competitive team sport there is.
Muggsy Bogues, Spud Webb and Earl Boykins are the best representatives, but Calvin Murphy and Isaiah Thomas should have made the list. Even though they were "taller" players at a "listed" 5' 9", they're both the only 5-9 or under players to become All-Stars and also both once averaged over 25 points a game. If it weren't for injuries, Thomas would have had a near max contract. Avery Johnson was even taller 5 '10", but he was an actual starter on a championship team and lasted 16 seasons. Damon Stoudamire, also 5' 10", had 4 very good years in Toronto, putting nearly All-Star numbers (points and assists). Nate Robinson 5' 9" wasn't as good as any of these guys (well maybe Boykins), but way better than most of the guys in the video, with half the players only playing in a handful of games, with very limited minutes and during the 40s and 50s when players were smaller, (Jerry West at 6' 3", would have been a big guard in the 40s)...
Dang
Nate robinson won three and he’s 5’9 wowza
Could anyone imagine if Muggsy was 6’6 tho
Muggsy is such a G
Damn, I'm taller than a professional NBA player
I'm hoping will get to see what markquis nowell will be like
How did Namie Newman and Julian Newman miss this Documentary @Overtime
His vertical probably like 76
Muggsy is the goat
