Savage held that belt for over a year. He gave it a status it didn’t have before. When I think of that title, I think of him with it. That’s being an icon.
This is absolutely true....Savage is to the IC title as Hogan is to the world title. Ultimate Warrior is a close second as an IC champ icon.
Macho Man, started a slew of legendary IC Champs, Perfect, Hart, Michaels, Rude, Honky Tonk Man, Ultimate Warrior, the gateway to the World Title, it all started with Randy Savage.

Tito Santana was a better Intercontinental Champion.
Nobody has elevated that title to near world championship status quite like savage.

A title hast mean something in order for people to be invested into care otherwise what’s the sense of watching two people battle of rebel no one cares about and that’s the thing we’ve done past belts around like candy and traded them back and forth left and right And now no one really cares about the intercontinental title
It wasn’t a launching pad it was just as big a deal as being WWF Champion because the WWF only had TWO singles title.

crazy how theyd film vignettes and backstage interviews well ahead of time. there is a video of macho wearing that exact outfit with the same backdrop with jesse ventura as his tag partner cutting a promo on jyd and then ic champ chico santana.
Interesting hearing SAVAGE say "ribbing", a knows shoot term the boys would use to pull practical jokes on each other.

This aired two weeks after Savage won the Intercontinental title. Until the switch was shown on TV Santana would continue to defend the title.
Macho has to be the greatest champs then, WM 2 IC champ and then a year later loses it, WM 4 won the World title then a year later loses it, year long reigns
Along with Pedro Morales the only 2 Wrestlers to have an Intercontinental and World Title Reign go a year apiece

Last great ic champ was shawn or razor..rock n austin really didnt seem to care about it or did anyone in attitude era ..i bet ten yrs from now miz still ic champ and it still wont matter.
HHH vs Rock in 98 was a great IC feud.
Jeff Jarrett was a damn good IC champion. Shamrock was only IC champion in attitude era to hold it longer than a month. I thought Randy Orton had a terrific IC title run and Miz’s most recent run was solid too.

Savage must have used that terrible polish right after winning the championship. You can see that a lot of the blue is gone already. While Macho elevated the title to unprecedented levels, he ruined the actual belt.

I was too young during this era but I’ve been watching promos and matches and man! Wrestling now is not even close to those days . They don’t know how to cut a good promo , they are bad on the mic , their wrestling is not that good and they push people because of their family and how popular they are in social media. Boring
