So I went to the website for the Dubby sled, and I can’t believe this guy has been selling for about as long as I’ve been alive and his shop is 5 minutes from where I grew up and my parents still live! I had never heard of it before an earlier Cool Tools episode, and I had no clue something so cool was built so close to me.

    Hi, Stumpy,
When I saw the magnetic push stick, I immediately went to my work shop drawer that had lots of rare earth magnets, and began attaching them to my push sticks . Now all my push sticks are magnetic AND much more handy.
However, I had one tool with no convenient steel surface. Not to fear: I used Velcro. It works great!
Keep up making these great videos: not only are they helpful, but they are enjoyable.

I used to have one of the original Dubby sleds, bought at a woodworking show in PA in the 80's. I just had the left handed sled, they didn't have the right handed sled at that time. No fancy aluminum track or angle gauge. Just a wood fence with an adjustable stop and an angle marking tape that was stuck to the sled. Once setup properly it was quite accurate, made many a multi sided frame on the sled. Wish I could have kept it when I sold my table saw. My (new to me, but actually old) table saw does not have standard miter slots.

I've had my Dubby Sled for more than 3 years, and I love it. It's great for picture and mirror frames, and also great for making bowl blanks for the lathe. You can quickly make segmented rings with different thicknesses for each ring, and even using various species of wood for a very colorful bowl. Then glue the rings together to form the basic shape of your bowl, and as an added benefit, you don't have to waste a lot of wood hogging out your bowl. I'm definitely going to be looking into those router bits, and that band saw too.

RUclips is crammed with videos about table saw sleds and I'm drawn to them like a moth to a candle. And then I remember that I have a right and left Dubby. I've had them for decades and they are incredible. I just don't need another sled. I even tie the two together so they can handle larger panels. I've never seen a video of a cross-cutting operation that the Dubby couldn't handle just as well or better and more safely.
I'm flabbergasted that one commenter below had support problems. I've called Jerry Cole a couple of times and he has been fantastic. To the writer below, give him another try.
Harvey is the outfit that bought out John Economaki when he retired from Bridge City Tools. Thanks for the review of that bandsaw. I was just about to buy a Jet. Not any more. Sorry, Jet.

I bought a Harvey C-14 bandsaw. Right now it is pretty much assembled. But I have not run it yet. It came with a ¾” 6 TPI blade that was all oiled up for corrosion protection. I really do not see a purpose for such a blade. So I have ordered some others from sawblade.com and await their arrival. I can make share a few perceptions so far. First, the saw looks great. Fit and finish seem very good. It arrived strapped to a pallet. The pallet was pretty beat up. Had a couple of cracked slats, which made this heavy, tall, skinny tool kind of unstable. The delivery truck could not get down my driveway. So the driver pullet the pallet jack and I pushed and stabilized the load along 200’ of gravel driveway. The tool was packed well in a cardboard box with a wood subframe. A few weeks prior to ordering it, I emailed a question to Harvey. Took 6 days to get a reply. After I ordered the tool, and before it was shipped, I emailed a couple of questions to Harvey. I never got an answer. I do not think their customer service is yet spooled up for retail sales. Probably a learning curve there. The manual is on quality paper, and the font size and legibility is good. Lots of exploded diagrams with part numbers, which I like. The saw came delivered with the power switch bolted on the opposite side. This confused me at first. I assume it was done for shipping reasons. But there was nothing in the manual. I also found an error in the manual, where the figure really did not match what was written in the text. But I eventually figured it out. The manual is better than many I have read, but is not “SawStop quality”. But then again, who’s is?

I just bought Harvey's Alpha tablesaw...i could rave about it just as much as you do with the bandsaw. The work surface is almost too big (31.5 inches deep).
Tip for anyone considering a Harvey machine...sign up for their email list. They are seemingly desperate to make in-roads in the American market, so they constantly have some deep discounts on big machines, and Bridge City stuff too. For instance, that Ambassador bandsaw was just advertised the other day for an extra $300 off.

I have a thing called the "D&C FastTrack", and it looks to be almost identical to the "M-Power FastTrack". The "D&C FastTrack" was maybe - maybe - useful for sharpening a chisel for rough carpentry use, but was most often used as a paperweight.

Well, I guess I’m part of the “In-lineindustries” cult. I’ve been using a Dubby Sled (including a wooden fence and vinyl stick-on angle scale), Contractor Saw PALS, A-LINE-IT tool, Machined Pulleys and an Accu-Link Twist Belt on my Delta Contractor’s Saw for 3+ decades. They (collectively) made my saw a joy to use. I remember I was a little confused about one of the items I’d purchased, so I gave the support phone number a call (emails weren’t a thing back then). I was a little surprised, but it was Jerry who called me back and expertly answered all of my questions. Highly recommended!

Still trying to decide between Harvey C14 and HW615 with TiN coating. Could you tell me TABLE weight difference between the HW615 and C14? I want to fork out for a Harvey bandsaw - my first. No luck in contacting the Harvey people, so asking you.
So, I live on the Texas Gulf coast. and everything gets very rusty, very fast. I desire ACCURACY over brawn.
    Still happy with your C14?
Looking for differences between the C14, the HW615, and the HW615P. Here is what I see:
C14 vs either HW615 - smaller table, round rail on C14, T-square style rail on HW615's, and shorter fence.
HW 615 vs 615P difference - coated table.
    Is the coated table worth?
Round bar rail vs T-square rail - thoughts? How much importance should I be placing on the rail?
6" fence vs 3 inch fence?
The Harveys appears to be a better version of the Laguna 14SUV. Laguna is discontinuing the SUV. Should this concern me about future parts availability?
I am leaning towards the coated table HW615 for the coating, bigger table, taller fence, and more (and not round) accurate rail
    Your thoughts, please.

    • @StumpyNubs
      @StumpyNubs  3 года назад +2

I own both saws. I love them both. I use the C14 for day to day curves and misc. cuts, keeping a 1/4-inch blade on it. I have a big, carbide resaw blade that stays on my HW615 which is used for resawing and for rip cuts.
If I could only have one, I would have a hard time choosing. The smaller C14 will do everything you ask of it. It's plenty powerful enough for resawing if I wanted to do that. I also think the guides are a little easier to adjust on the C14.
The HW615 is a beast of a saw. It is big and bulky and heavy. That makes it nice for heavy-duty resawing. The fence is by far the nicest I have ever seen on a bandsaw, more comparable to a high end table saw fence. And the bigger table is nice for bigger work.
Harvey makes really, really nice stuff. I have two band saws, a dust collector, a lathe, and I'm getting one of their table saws.

I have an idea, how about using your rent or food money. Remember woodworking feeds your soul and sometimes even gives you cash.

I do a lot, a lot of resawing and my 18 General with it's Carter guides are precise. But it takes a lot of work to dial them in every time I change blades or perform maintenance. These Harvey bandsaws look awesome. They're a little more expensive but you get what you pay for I guess. I would consider buying one.

I bought a dubby sled years ago, worked well but the board was MDF that didn’t last long in the high humidity of my Florida shop.

Buy a new I am certain that you are just going to spend the money in some other way like rent or food. Besides something like this sometimes pays you back not to mention that the man that sells the sled deserves every penny.

Stumpy, can you revisit the Dubby sled now that Peachtree Woodworking is the seller. Jerry is apparently no longer involved with the product and the In-Line Industries site no longer exists.

I saw the Dubby sled and wanted it, but at 180 USD, it would be like 250 CAD plus the custom broker to bring that to Canada. Nice product, but definitely out of reach for a Canadian hobbyist!

I just purchased a whiteside bit for a beaded molding I was matching up. It worked very well. I think I need to upgrade the Bits I use the most. And would you recommend whiteside. As always love your videos.

My customer service experience with Dubby was not very good. I bought a sled several years ago. Just after (days in fact) I suffered a heart attack which resulted in Bi-pass surgery. So it was several months before I was able to get back in the workshop. I tried setting up the Dubby. There were several things that were either damaged or just missing. I contacted Jerry he assured me everything would be sorted. Despite several emails and failed phone calls, I am still waiting. So judging by Stumpy's comments re customer service, I fell through the net.

The 15-inch? It's a beast of a saw. You're going to love it. The fence is the nicest I have ever used on a band saw. It says it will tension up to a 1-inch blade, but I've put a 1-1/4 inch one on it with no problems- that's how well built it is!

I have a serious question maybe you can tell me what I should do. You might recall I built the router table from your excellent design. In it I installed the HF Drill master 2hp router and Router Speed Control. How do can I set the correct rpm speed when I install one of the these whiteside bits which specify the rpm speed that that they should be run at? And given an unmarked router bit how do I know what the rpm speed should be?

    • @donaldkreher8629
      @donaldkreher8629 4 года назад

I figured it out: use a photo tachometer.

@@StumpyNubs First thatnk you very much for responding.
The video gives me more to think about. I knew about the safe ranges for various diameters. I have been adjusting the speed until "it sounds right", which I suppose means when it is not vibrating. So I guess I am doing it O.K. I just wanted to be more precise. My issue was the router was fixed speed and inside the enclosed router lift box, but I added an external router controller so that I could adjust the speed. The controller has no marks so I have no clue what the RPMs are when I vary the speed. The answer I think is to buy a tachometer.
This was motivated by the fact I have a nice set of forstner bits for the drill press and each bit is labeled by the maximum rpm it should be allowed to run at. Thus you know how to set the belts for the proper speed. When you showed that big Whiteside template bit I noticed it had it was labeled by the max RPM it should be run at. So I wanted to figure out how to make the router run at the RPM.
