Antenna boost commercial on youtube using your face from I'm assuming one of your videos to promote their products they just showed a brief clip of you holding an antenna but not what you were saying just wanted to make you aware of it
The Philips antenna you used in the video works great in my apartment to pull in 99 percent of the local TV stations in my market from 30 miles away. I bought it when you originally reviewed it. I am going to buy one of the 7 inch Tyler portable TVs to use in an emergency and use it when I attend Tennessee Titans games.
I have a similar portable TV like this but not a Tyler brand, it’s the Supersonic brand. The two big takeaways that the Tyler TV offers over the Supersonic is the FM radio and HDMI port. I can attest that the built in tuner works great for the Supersonic and that I have had this TV for about 9 years now and it is still works. I hope the Tyler brand stands up as well as Supersonic.
Those little TV's will be really neat is they ever get the NextGen ATSC 3.0 tuner built in or if a 3.0 dongle could be used on the current models. I wonder if reception would improve with the little telescopic antenna?
This looks cool, this is the closest thing to the Sony Watchman in digital broadcasting! I would use this at picnics and in rural areas, because here we mostly have terrible wireless internet access near stadiums and event venues!
Nice. I've always thought it would be neat to duct tape an antenna to a car, have the coax cord run through the window on the door, and have it hooked up to a portable TV to see what stations I get as I travel. Obviously someone else would have to drive.
I'll give you a hint, get your newly licensed ( at least 6 months ) son to drive you around while you check for channels and receptions. They love to drive around when they get their license. But, before or after rush hours for a smother ride. I got my little sister to drive me around for a week, best driving practice she ever had.
@@billgreen1861 I don't have any children (I just turned 23) and I don't have a license yet myself. I just wanted to point out something I was thinking about doing in the future 😅
That sounds neat. Unfortunately, you're going to have to wait for a portable TV with ATSC 3.0 tuning to watch TV while moving. The current ATSC 1.0 standard does not allow for mobile reception.
I don't use this type of device because I don't use them often enough and the battery goes bad. Instead I bought a couple of the tuner dongles that plug into a tablet or phone. That better fits my personal needs. Very interesting the Antenna Man has a similar experience. I'd say it's the nature of these devices and not the fault of any single brand.
Hey Antenna Man, thanks for your videos, but I have one question. What is your personal antenna setup? My family is tired of paying so much for cable and we want to go to OTA with the best experience possible, going to every TV in the house.
My personal antenna setup doesn't really matter. What I have won't necessarily work well at your location. It all depends on how strong and weak the signals are. That being said, you can find a list of recommended antennas below: www.amazon.com/shop/antennaman If you'd like to help your parents cut the cord, tell them to sign up for my antenna recommendation service below. www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
Remember, you OWN the existing cable wiring in your home, no matter who installed it. That wiring can also be used to distribute the signals from your antenna- with some considerations.
Thanks for showing this item. I could think of a lot of uses for this item. Looks pretty neat. I'd have to say one of the neatest portable TVs that you've ever shown.
Warning! When watching dual language sport games, it defaults to Spanish and can't be changed! Other similar competitors have the same software menu flaw.
I have the Tyler 14" Widescreen portable TV. It's for emergencies only. I don't watch TV. It picks up every nearby TV station in my area. The picture quality is excellent if sitting directly in front of the screen. The quality diminishes as you move to either side, or try to watch it while standing. It has great sound and is very easy to use. It also has a built-in FM radio that picks up nearby radio stations very well. I listen to football games with it during football season. If you like music, it's great for that too. I recommend this Tyler 14" Widescreen TV to anyone looking for a small TV for camping, for use in an RV or for emergencies.
This TV has a flaw that it always tunes the secondary SAP/MTS channels audio if present, it doesn't tune in the first primary audio of the main channel by default... It won't remember this choice. It's dead annoying to always have to hit the audio button selection on the tiny membrane remote every time you tune back to a channel that has secondary audio present. I haven't figured out what the solution is to fix this. Other than it's a bug in the software you can't fix.. Some channels this might not be noticeable because they duplicate the same audio on their secondary, but often only in mono and lower audio levels as is typical of SAP/MTS audio. Or it's silent because the channel only passes on network SAP audio, like CBS has present during primetime, but again, single channel mono feed. I wonder if the larger 13" and 16" versions of this TV have the same issue. This TV uses a TN panel that has very limited viewing angles, so that's why it get's off color the further you go to any side, including up or down. They should have gone with an IPS panel for best viewing angles; you would think that is more important with a small TV as viewing angles will be more extreme the smaller the TV get's unless you like to put your head right next to the other person holding the TV. Even a VA panel would have been a huge improvement..
Do you know of any portable TV's that run on user-replaceable batteries like AA, AAA, etc? I live in a hurricane-prone area and would love to be able to change batteries during power outages.
Most of these portable TVs also run on 12v DC. It should also operate on a power receptacle in your vehicle or using a portable car charger. And, that may provide better longer use of the TV during an outage.
I bought the 13.3 set. Sensitivity is TERRIBLE. I live five miles from the WB Towers and in fact am able to see them. NO VHF. The antenna they giver is useless, about 5" tall.
They should have also had a second USB port to be able to recharge it when the battery dies and you dont have access to a wall outlet, or a cars 12v output.
I'm genuinely curious: Does anyone use a TV like this frequently? I'm specifically asking people who aren't nerds like me, people who just like to mess with these things: I can see a lot of truckers using these, people in RVs, people living the van life, or people who want to keep a "low profile".
I used mine everyday, in the morning while in the kitchen for the morning news while making breakfast and having coffee. Also in the evenings when between commercials I get up ( from the living room TV) for a snack ( I don't want to miss anything). And of course I have a second one in the bathroom, I really don't want to miss out during the World Cup Soccer ⚽. Yes, I know I'm obsessed, what can I say !
0:54 the company is probably inspired by your videos about antennas. so they know that you're Tyler the antenna man. So they named the company Tyler to thank you for spreading the word of free over the air tv!

That Phillips antenna works great in my heavily stacked VHF area, with the exception of one stubborn high VHF ABC station that comes and goes. I NEEDED the link to those coax adapters. Thanks for that. I was looking for those earlier this week to help out with an earlier version of this TV I bought in order to use it on the rooftop for my antenna placement.
Great review, Tyler! One thing I remember from one of your older videos is that ATSC 1.0 tuning is meant for stationary televisions. When you move the tv/antenna around, you’ll lose the signal until the tv is stationary again, and will need antenna adjustments. Is that still true? Thanks! Anthony
The length need for the antenna is based on the bandwidth of the signal wave, so if you know the channel it's possible to work out or look up the approximate length it should be.

After a scan, can you add channels manually by RF channel? I have a little portable that sucks because if you manually go to a channel and it does not decode a digital channel, it reverts to analog and memorizes it as an analog channel even if you later get in range of the digital station. Then you must do a complete LONG re-scan! Does it have an analog tuner?
It's interesting. One problem is that networks are trying to push for a 2027 ATSC 1.0 cutoff date and require Internet access for their signal encryption with ATSC 3.0. I mean, I don't know what good a portable TV will be in 4 years unless it had a SIM card for Internet access. By the time you to that, you might as well just watch streaming video on your phone. With pushed encryption with Internet access, I don't know if I want to buy a new TV set. I would likely buy just a large computer monitor for streaming Internet. I'm not a fan of smart TVs. I don't want to get my hopes up that the petitioning will change the mind of the FCC. Money talks, and corporations want OTA TV to use as a pay TV service. So, if your Internet goes out because of bad weather or something, you won't be able to watch TV either. TV encryption is just fleecing the American people like corporations do with everything else including the Internet.
There is a lot of misinformation about that deadline. I can tell you right now that ATSC 1.0 is not going to be shut down for at least another 10 years. I will explain why in a future video but take my word for it that an ATSC 1.0 tuner is not going to become obsolete anytime soon. In fact, some ATSC 3.0 tuners might become obsolete if they don't become DRM certified.
I received an identical TV for Christmas, except it is under the Naxa brand. The screen text is the same, the buttons are the same and the inputs are the same, including the recessed antenna input. I found the tuner sensitivity to be poor. I connected it using a push connector like you recommended to the same antenna with the same cables and it got only the strongest channels and doesn’t get other channels that I get with every other TV that I have. I’ll try exchanging the Naxa for the Tyler since that contrasts with your experience; I’m guessing it’s hit or miss with the quality. It looks like it can be used with a tripod shoe for mounting to a camera and you might be able to use it to convert HDMI to composite, in case you would ever need to do that.
Just picked me up one. I wonder if it’s opened up. A wires cut to the original battery if a slightly higher rechargeable mAh battery roughly the same be put in the place the factory one sat a soldered an heat shrink to the wires. An get a little more run time out of it. I’m going to have to check it out. Even if it takes a tiny bit of dremmel work to remove a touch of plastic to fit a higher rated battery in it. I’ve done it with a few rechargeable items. That some reason even though. They could have done it in factory. They went with a weaker battery. Definitely going to have to check that out. A report back to this comment an edit. For anyone else that may be curious. An have the know how to do the same. And post up whatever battery part number I may locate that can fit the build
Can the batteries be replaced once they don’t hold a charge anymore? I’ve owned a Tyler tv in the past, and threw it away because I couldn’t replace the battery. I’m looking for a tv that will last at least one year.
I have one of these I bought a year or so ago. I can't find the users manual. Is there a download anywhere for it? I also can't locate the remote. Is it really needed to operate it? Last, I haven't found the FM tune in the menu at all. Where can I find it?
I don't recall you stating the tuner type. I assume these TV's are ATSC1.0? So, they'll likely be obsolete in just a few years. Maybe you should have mentioned this?
The TVs are ATSC 1.0 and will work for a long time. They are not going to be obsolete anytime soon. We are still in the very very early stages of ATSC 3.0. It's not replacing the current TV standard for at least 10 years. There's even a chance the whole thing might flop. See post below. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxbYLebI9jgKoubRNZKrWO4fcq0e-c041r
I bought a Tyler tv similar to this one. Picture is o.k. Nothing great. I don’t like the power button light it should glow red when off and green when it’s on. I’m contacting the company about the screen surface. It has diagonal washboard lines on it. Like it’s melting kind of,you can feel it rubbing your finger on the lines. I bought this to replace a Sony 8” trinitron which I loved.
Marconi to Tyler… I fear television will never recover from the writer’s strike… What do you think the future of tv networks looks like? I really don’t see it being around more than another year or 2… just not profitable, and the audience is shrinking fast. If they can’t make money, they’ll have to shut down…

In fact, some ATSC 3.0 tuners might become obsolete if they don't become DRM certified.
Also, internet access is NOT required for ATSC 3.0. This is a false rumor.
With the HDMI port you can still use it with an external 3.0 tuner or any other HDMI device
I am interested in 7 inches Tyler tv for signal search on satellite dish. Can the tv works with direct plug in DC if the batteries goes bad?
Do you know anything about the monster vision 15.6 " ? Let me know thanks
Does anyone know if this has overscan? I thought that would be all but eliminated on most TVs today.
I’m looking for a tv that will last at least one year.
tyler is such a great name for a brand. it's like craig's cousin.
ol' mate you can take with you
I have one of these I bought a year or so ago. I can't find the users manual. Is there a download anywhere for it? I also can't locate the remote. Is it really needed to operate it? Last, I haven't found the FM tune in the menu at all. Where can I find it?
I just purchased one! I’m excited for it
How n why are these still so expensive. Id expect to pay 40$tops for 1 of these tvs
Thank you for the info
I'm right there with ya.. It's all about the size of the element.
Could this tv be realistically used if you were in a car?
Only when the car is stationary. The current TV standard cannot be picked up in motion.
I like the haircut!
I like mine, great idea for tuning an antenna.
Is it just my age, or does Tyler look younger and younger? Dude, keep doing whatever it is you are doing.
Does the HDMI input really accept 1920x1080p? Or is it something else (1280x720)?
what size is the built in battery and whats the life expectancy from a full charge?
I don't know the size of the battery but the life expectancy isn't long. It usually stops holding a charge within a year or two of purchase.
3.0 cool
i have this tv an when im making food in the kitchen i can watch the tv thats good :)
Yeah well wish I could tune into another dimension
If they can’t make money, they’ll have to shut down…
Can you get sports on it like ESPN NFL Network?
an my local channels
I stay in NC sports come on my local channels like channel 2, 8, 12 etc. etc.

Or use it in school
Yes, I use to bring a portable TV to school years ago in the analog days.
I want to buy & bring it to work, it's slow as H E dbl hockey sticks in winter! That'll go over like a fart in church.
