SCP-1200 designates all chewing gum distributed under the "Tastes Like Chewing Gum" brand. Packages of SCP 1200 periodically appear in various stores across the United States. The logo present on the packaging identifies the gum's manufacturer as "The Factory".
When an SCP1200 sample is masticated by a human subject, the sample's anomalous effects will manifest. The particulars and the duration of the effects vary based on the flavor of the sample. Currently, 83 flavors of SCP-1200 have been documented. Swallowing SCP-1200 samples does not produce any further anomalous effects.

Honestly, the flavor "Tastes Like Normalcy" just feels like the company's way of giving the middle finger to the Foundation.

Either that, or it just reinforces a persons definition of “normal,” which Foundation staff wouldn’t notice - each persons definition of normal is different from each other, so it’d be nearly impossible to test without, say, an SRA (Scranton Reality Anchor) forcing a bubble of “normal” and making the subjects who chew the gum look at a few SCP’s, (who they don’t know off) and see if they see them as “normal” or something
I thought it might be an antidote to whatever hurtful effect of other "taste like" (like the moon's shadow for example) gums. Maybe even an universal antidote to unusual or weird substances, which would be especially helpful for the foundation to treat their staff.

That was my first thought, too!
I guess they didn't go for this because:
A. Chewing isn't solely a kids thing, sometimes parents even prohibit it
B. It has some tastes only an adult would appreciate, like what a kid would have nostalgia for? Year old Skibidi Toilet episode? Same with mom cooking, a child still has access to it

I really like how The Factory and Dr Wondertainment go about "mass production of goods" in two very different ways yet are so very similar at times. At first I thought the gum might be a Dr Wondertainment product but when it was revealed to be a The Factory product instead I just nodded as it wasn't really a surprise.

I'm picturing some Valentine-heart shade of pink, looking milder than a typical bubblegum shade.
* For people who _hate_ to be hugged, the gum would induce a panic attack and a sensation of being smothered; the actual flavor would remind them of cheap artificial sweetener.
* _Average_ people would perceive a brief burst of sweetness and warmth, accompanied by a fleeting memory of a loved one holding them.
* Affectionate, _cuddly_ people would taste the most comforting sweetness they remember and feel several minutes of euphoria as they relived snuggling with family and friends.

My guess would've been that it makes you physically unable to interact with anything deemed anomalous. Like, you just can't see it and don't realize it's there and anything it does it can't to you, but you can't realize the effects of the gum because they aren't normal.

If you chew SCP 1200-29 (Taste like Rubics Cube) and you can't figure out the original arrangement of your body after the 216 minutes, why can't you just chew another piece of SCP-1200-29, and continue to solve the arrangement of your body. Seems odd that after chewing one piece, that if you dont figure out the original configuration of your body, that you'd be stuck in the new body arrangement forever. 🤔🤨

I have a similar question about the RenewYu cream from Batman: The Animated Series, from Clayface's origin episode. TBH, an early panic attack trigger. I was, like, 12 or something? Because, I just have my own human hands. Even a professional sculptor would probably freeze up at how horrifying it is to be able to change the shape of your own face by fumbling and pushing at it ... right now. Not even the point of the forced overdose murder attempt later that really made me fall apart, but the horror of that idea had my system out of whack already.
I think that living with that nightmare in my body, getting kind of sick every time I thought of watching that show again, was what made be really like Harley Quin when I went back to the show in the next episode. Off topic, I know, but after the practically traumatic horror of Clayface's origin, she made me so happy to see how much fun she got out of Joker's jokes. Stayed my favourite forever.

im gonna be honest the factory is my favorite thing. it adds a whole new layer to scp lore. there is someone out there making products out of anomaly abilities and i think its amazing. theres the guys that want to destroy anomalies, the guys that worship them, the guys that secure them, and then the factory that shares them.
Honestly, this SCP about chewing gum was more interesting than most articles about the world ending threats

The scariest thing for me about this story is that I know a candy shop that is very similar to the one in the story a 30 minute drive from me. It is facing the water in a seaside town, the owner is an older man that has been running it for years, the winter slows any business from tourism in the town, salt-water taffy is one of the candy it sells.

That's hilarious, they made a custom gum for the foundation specifically just to troll them as it does absolutely nothing anomalous and doesn't even have a taste. It's just plain gum.

You know if the company that makes Tastes Like chewing gum really wanted to mess with the Foundation they could make the Tastes Like Normalcy flavor have the effect where the chewer can only see and hear things that are normal and any anomalous entries will either be invisible or will look like normal variations of whatever they would be if they were not anomalous. And this effect is permanent. Meaning the individual will be psychologically conditioned to believe that the Foundation is actually crazy and locking up regular humans and animals rather than dangerous anomalous entities
I applaud the creators/writers of these stories. Quite mind boggling and entertaining!

My takeaway for the Taste Like Normalcy wasn't the same as the video. I imagine that it's like a reset, so that if a particular piece of gum is too intense, you can end it by chewing the normalcy gum.

Imagine those people made one called Taste Like Looking At Shy Guy where if you chew it triggers 096 rage state a gum to get back at the foundation.
Their are some flavors that when 2 test subjects chew near each other, may have overlapping effects to the other person chewing a SCP gum.
If there were two rubik's gum chewers, there is a chance they could become stuck together. And trying to undo that would just make it worse.
Two other subjects chewing Tastes like a circus, and Tastes Like now run near each other actually caused a level teal containment breach.
Only after the gum's powers wore off 45 minutes later were the 2 subjects subdued and re-confined.
Luckily no one was hurt by the incident, not even the test subjects themselves.
Extensive repairs had to be made to the SCP facility though.

Yeah they definitely should’ve taken the nightmare flavor one away and any other flavors that would’ve harmed anyone mentally but for the most part this anomaly doesn’t seem so bad.
Actually seems like it could be used as a sort of form a therapeutical pick me up in many cases and could do a lot of good.
Plus it’s just gum and who’s honestly gonna believe the that there’s something super natural at play anyways?

I have a few interesting albeit novel questions for this SCP:
1. What happens if the user has no frame of reference for the flavor for example never tasted lemon before?
2. Should the flavor be dependent on user experience for example "tastes like mom used to make" or "tastes like youth" what would happen to a user who lacks such experiences or is incapable of them currently? Has no memories of mom / mom died during child birth for "tastes like mom used to make". Is currently a child / was comatose during childhood for "tastes like youth".
3. More of a hypothesis than question but perhaps the flavors don't implicitly require human cadaver's but much rather require something that fundamentally embodies the flavors effect hence the forgotten bodies of the recently deceased being used in "tastes like the forgotten" and if true could be used to better locate other facilities based on availability of potential ingredients by location, climate, socio-political economics etc.
4. Does this gum work on other SCP's for instance 682, 343, 106, or 049 all come to mind as coercible or otherwise usable subjects. Although administration of gum to 682 may require the expenditure of a D-class personnel but that seems to be the case for most things to do with 682.

Okay, sell the first two flavors and burn the last box of "taste like your worst nightmares," flavor. ALWAYS read the label before consuming. If it says something unpleasant - DON'T chew or eat it. Big question - why make some flavors that would sell and be popular and then make others that NO ONE would want? The facility the SCP found making the gum of "Tastes like those forgotten," - seemingly intelligent robots stealing human corpses to make the gum - ah what is behind this one would wonder and why? LOL, whoever sent the SCP the gum "tastes like normalcy," apparently wanted to mock the SCP. LOL, very good story!
