This is where I get excited in the process as the technician! To me, nothing more satisfying than voicing a really good piano and making the possibility of controllable musical expression!

Hello Hyrum, what study, qualifications & career path got you to be able to prep a Steinway to be concert-ready?

@Chris Neale I apprenticed for two years with the piano shop at the University while studying music. My degrees are in vocal performance but I have played the piano since I was young. I worked on pianos at the University part-time and began servicing homes after preparing for and passing my exams with the Piano Technicians Guild. I worked for our local Yamaha dealer for several years and attended what was then a Yamaha sponsored class called Little Red Schoolhouse with Leroy Edwards. I then got an opportunity to work on a project for the Steinway dealer, and they decided to start using me as a contractor. They sponsored my factory training at Steinway in New York where I got to rub shoulders with instructors at Steinway. I have attended factory training for Spirio systems on a few occasions and was asked to be part of Steinway's service arm list of approved technicians-- service.steinway.com. I try and be in a continual state of growth and learning absorbing info and skills from anyone who can produce excellent results. A lot of training and experience comes through on-the-job encounters and networking with others.

@@saltlakepianoservice Your enthusiasm and love for pianos/music comes across in the videos. I've really been enjoying this series. I've played since I was about 12 but had a digital for a long time. As good as it was it's not the same. I've been lucky enough to be able to get a grand piano recently and the research before buying it and now owning and wanting to understand it has sent me on searches on youtube for voicing, regulation, tri-chord felt trimming and more. It's amazing stuff and great to learn.
Thanks for the reply and sharing your craft with us in these videos!
