Have to do it with a serger, the best a sewing machine can do is a zigzag stitch to seal off the end. But don't feel pressured to get a serger! The zigzag is pretty good =)
I honestly love your channel! Your videos are short, simple and so creative! You inspire me to learn how to sew and make my own clothes. Thank you so much for making this awesome channel! :D
You have great diction and tone, so your videos are super easy to watch and learn from. I'm a 45-year-old guy who is learning to sew so that I can alter my own clothes; do you have any plans for tutorials for men's clothing?
I'm going to watch again. I got a sewing machine for Christmas, heavy duty brother so I can hem and taper my husband's jeans. Thing is, I don't know how to sew & I've been watching videos to learn how to do both the taper and the hemming. I want to keep the original hem. Which I found a couple of good vids for that but then I was thinking can I still do that with tapering too. My favorite thing about this video was the scripture at the end. New subbie!
Fabulous thank you. I had some Jeans given to me which were handy for dog walking as I get muddy. They were a bit wide for tucking in the gators. All slimmed down now though.
If the jean fabric is not too thick it may be possible, you would have to combine this tutorial with the one I posted about taking pants down a size. Message me if you need any help! =)
Some machines are integrating enough tech with touch screens and instructions that they are pretty self-explanatory. You can also learn different hand sewing techniques as an alternative.
Favorited! Thank you! I just started fitting into my old jeans, and they're a little out of date. But with this video, I can just follow along and bring my new/old wardrobe into this decade. So you've just saved me a lot of money! Thanks! :D
Wendy! Your channel is great! You have a wonderful way of explaining- illustrating and teaching. I am so happy I found your channel. I love that you use thrift store finds as well. What about a tutorial for putting a pleat/vent in the back of a flannel shirt similar to the "Lucky Brand" flannel shirt. Nice flannel shirts are in abundance at thrift stores and putting a pleat in the back updates them and makes them super cute! Thanks for all your tutorials. :)
Hi Wendy! I actually do know how to do this but your tutorials are awesome! It's very easy to see & understand everything. I wanted to know if you have ever taken in a pair of jeans that have decorative or fancy stitching on the seams & if so how do you suggest doing it? I have a friend that wants me to do this to her boot cut Ed Hardy & Silver jeans & I just can't decide how to do it or whether to tell her no. Thanks!
Thank this was really helpful!! :) I'm not a fan of bootcut jeans but I love skinny jeans. The boot cut jeans that I own I can finally change them :D. THANKS WENDY
what kind of machine are you using? im looking to buy one it will be my first time using one. i cant decide between singer or brother machine. any suggestions?
i love how you put bible scriptures at the end of your videos. make them more BOLD. 😊 they are awesome tutorials on how to fix old jeans!!! thank you!!
GREAT VIDEO! I've just watched three other videos and yours is the correct way to do this. I think you need to find the straight of grain for both pairs and line that up first. Sorry, but I don't understand why you found it necessary to remove that 2" of the hem, couldn't that be done while still on the jeans. Sorry to be so obtuse.
Hi! Not obtuse at all, I appreciate the question! I had to remove the bottom because flare/bootcut jeans tend to be longer than skinny jeans, so once you slim it down it often is the case that you have to hem the bottom as well.
Oh, OK, now that makes sense. I think you've done a bit of sewing prior to this, most of these people here are rank amateurs teaching others. Sometimes it seems to take forever for them to get to the point...and then you learn, after wasting 5 minutes, that it's all wrong. lol.
Hi! No it's not necessary, if you like the length just unfold the hem, slim them down, and then fold the hem back to where it started to keep the length :)
hi, i got my pants to fit great below the knee..how do you fix this problem? I have an ballon effect towards the top of my pants - I guess, You can tell there were a differen't style or something but they kinda puff or ballon up - i dont know what term to use - i literally got a machine today because of your videos!
@MsMixedVegetables This time my boyfriend whipped it together for me haha, but it is inspired by the chords from a Hillsong piece "From the Inside Out".
Could you please tell me what number i should adjust for my serger for jeans? All four threads please. I just bought a used one from craigslist. It is a Jaguar serger 208. thanks
in the video you said choose the edge you want to modify. does it mean it's ok to alter either the inner or outer side of the jeans? or should we only cut the inner side?
I really like your tutorials. You have a great on-screen presence, and your voice is great too. If I have to recommend anything to make your video better, it'd only be that I hope you could clean your audio. Noise reduction is really easy. Just so that we hear more of your voice, than we do that airy background room noise. Subscribing, though!
Hi Wendy, I went to goodwill recently and found a good pair of high waisted pants though its a tad too big on me and I need to resize not only the leg area but basically everything. is it possible?
I would like to know which sewing machin is that!? I think is awesome! I'd really appreciate if on of yoo could tell me the model of the machine. By the way! cool tutorial!
How much would you charge for me to just send the jeans to you and they have you do this LOL
This was so helpful thank you!! I was able to turn old flares from 10 years ago into new skinnys that fit perfectly :)
Best tutorial ever! Ive been trying all diffrent ways to turn my flared jeans into skinny's and failing till this vid thank you!!!
Have to do it with a serger, the best a sewing machine can do is a zigzag stitch to seal off the end. But don't feel pressured to get a serger! The zigzag is pretty good =)
Thank you so much for sharing. I am not only inspiring by creativity but also by your faith.
I have messed up soooo many of my high end jeans watching these videos. 🤷🏼♀️ I hope your video is the correct way. Thanks for sharing.
Welp, 2023 and flares are back💙
Yeah, but I don't like them

It's hard to make fabric that is not that stretchy into skinny jeans, just because it cant hug your legs as well. Does that help answer your question?
I found these super nice black jeans but they're boot cut :( this saved my emo life :)))))) THANKS
Yessss music to my ears!
My sewing machine is a simple Kenmore machine, and other than that I just have a serger that is Brother brand.
Awww😊
This saved my Favorite pair of jeans ! ❤️
Thanks a lot for this tutorial :D
YES so happy!
You can alter either the inner or outer side, it depends on the way it is stitched and where you think the change will be least noticeable =)

very helpfulll thankyouuu so muchh . i just started sewing my clothes using machine.. i love the outcome after refering to this video♥️♥️
Fabulous thank you. I had some Jeans given to me which were handy for dog walking as I get muddy. They were a bit wide for tucking in the gators. All slimmed down now though.
Should work! Sew the leg skinnier and then try it on before you cut off excess fabric, that way you can tell if it works before you commit =)
This! in 2019-20
So glad they look good!
If the jean fabric is not too thick it may be possible, you would have to combine this tutorial with the one I posted about taking pants down a size. Message me if you need any help! =)
I don't know how to work with sewing machines so... that's that. 😂
Practice and play with it and you will learn it quickly.
Some machines are integrating enough tech with touch screens and instructions that they are pretty self-explanatory.
You can also learn different hand sewing techniques as an alternative.
omg! This what I've been trying to find a tutorial of!!!!
Omg baby Wendy!! So cute!

Hey if you have the jean thread why not just make a new hem using the old measurements?
Thank this was really helpful!! :) I'm not a fan of bootcut jeans but I love skinny jeans. The boot cut jeans that I own I can finally change them :D. THANKS WENDY
@silvertales Yuppers
what kind of machine are you using?
im looking to buy one it will be my first time using one.
i cant decide between singer or brother machine. any suggestions?

i love how you put bible scriptures at the end of your videos. make them more BOLD. 😊 they are awesome tutorials on how to fix old jeans!!! thank you!!
Do you suggest trimming the outer part of the leg or the inner?
Hi! I wanna know what sewing machine you’re using. Thanks.
GREAT VIDEO! I've just watched three other videos and yours is the correct way to do this. I think you need to find the straight of grain for both pairs and line that up first. You are amazing Wendy! Thank you!
Is it necessary to cut the bottom part of the jeans even if i'm already happy with its current length?
Hi! No it's not necessary, if you like the length just unfold the hem, slim them down, and then fold the hem back to where it started to keep the length :)
Thank you so much!
Thanks for asking this I was wondering this too! And thanks Wendy, imma try this tutorial

For those of us who don't own sergers, will a tight zigzag stitch suffice?
hi, i got my pants to fit great below the knee..how do you fix this problem? I have an ballon effect towards the top of my pants - I guess, You can tell there were a differen't style or something but they kinda puff or ballon up - i dont know what term to use - i literally got a machine today because of your videos!
Question about the into. Is that the Trail of lights in Austin?

Can you serg with a sewing machine or would you have to buy a serger?
Well I didn't learn anything but at least now I know how my tailor does my jeans.
What brand and model of sewing machine are you using? Thanks
How do you know if it's better to do the inside or outside of the jeans?
@MsMixedVegetables This time my boyfriend whipped it together for me haha, but it is inspired by the chords from a Hillsong piece "From the Inside Out".
you should do sowing for beginners because this video inspired me to get a sowing machine :) and i have no idea how to use it ... lol
You only need to take them in on the outside?
Could you please tell me what number i should adjust for my serger for jeans? All four threads please. I just bought a used one from craigslist. It is a Jaguar serger 208. thanks
in the video you said choose the edge you want to modify. does it mean it's ok to alter either the inner or outer side of the jeans? or should we only cut the inner side?
Hi love! Does this tutorial work for other materials besides jeans?
Do you have to cut the length when tapering the leg?
Hi ! Can you explain what's a serger and how it works ?
How much would you charge to turn my bootcut jeans from oldnavy to slim or skinny jeans
OHHHMYGOD You are so inspiring! :) I love this video! Big hello from Hong Kong! :D
Would the jean fray if you cut off the excess since I don't have a Serger :P ?
I really like your tutorials. You have a great on-screen presence, and your voice is great too. Mmina Maclang sgwgwo
Can this work with extra flare jeans turning them into bootcut style?
Do you have tips on what to do if the width of the front of the pants is smaller than the back? :/
wat do u recommend if its done by hand?
How do you put the hem back on?
What sewing machine do you own? I am looking to buy one. Thanks
Those shoes are awesome!
Does it matter which seam is sewn?
Hi Wendy, I went to goodwill recently and found a good pair of high waisted pants though its a tad too big on me and I need to resize not only the leg area but basically everything. is it possible?
i want to hem and make my jeans skinnier, does it matter what order i do them in? thankyou
Hi! Yes it does, make them skinnier first before hemming in order to keep the bottom edge uniform.
Okay thank you
Hi! This is possible without a sewing machine, but it would be much more challenging.
I really dig those boots. Can you tell me the make of them and where to get them, please?
Looks just like a very dirty pair of boots I wore in the Marine Corps in the early 70s. Try an Army Surplus store.
Oh ya!!!!
Wow thanks for this amazing tutorial!
Do you think you could do a video on how to extend a waistline?
will this work for jeggings too
11 years ago you started yt channel I am watching in 2021
I would like to know which sewing machin is that!? I think is awesome! I'd really appreciate if on of yoo could tell me the model of the machine.
By the way! cool tutorial!
Can you do this to dress pants?
Would this technique work with straight cut jeans?
can you post something similar for dress pants please?
Is there a way to do this without a sewing machine?

Your channel is so amazing ;w;

Wendy can you please do a video on taking in the waist of jeans as this is my biggest problem with jeans
I LOVE your shoes!
Omg baby Wendy! Here from 2019 lol
Ok so I wanna make some khakis I got from goodwill into skinny jeans (it's for a cosplay) Would that be possible using this tutorial?
This is not cool because the outside seems don’t cost together when I do it this way. I’m frustrated haha
Can I leave the bottom of the jeans legs just cut like that?
thanks for your sharing .I'm so interesting with your clip and keep going to watch more
I dont know how..Can you do this for me please..I have like 3 pairs of Bootcut jeans I love but want the opening smaller.
