- The Spéirling's battery pack is engineered and built by the McMurtry team in the UK using over 6,000 P26A cylindrical lithium ion cells from Molicel. The Goodwood edition car that broke the outright record had a 60 kWh capacity battery.
The key requirements for the cells are high power, low impedance and fast charge/discharge.
One benefit of a low impedance Molicel cell is a comparatively small temperature increase during high current drain therefore thermal design at pack system level can be simplified, making the resulting battery pack smaller and lighter.
"The battery pack is a defining element of our unique car concept. The cell capability within that has a first order effect on the mass and packaging volume of the entire car, plus the obvious power output to the drive motors. Therefore, in the heart of our car, we are leaving no stone unturned to deliver a power dense, compact and lightweight battery.
The Molicel cells have delivered a competitive advantage in achieving these aims and they have been powered the novel performance that the world has just witnessed at Goodwood.
I’m also looking forward to integrating the next generation of Molicel cells into our future products" Thomas Yates, Founding Director, McMurtry Automotive

I'm really amazed at what you guys have accomplished so far and can't wait for what the future will bring. Keep breaking those records!
These folks need to do Pikes Peak 🤟👽🔧🎬
Now I want those Molicel batteries at least to convert my bicycle to electric😅
Nice, what cells are you using now, p26a are fairly old. P30b, p45b I assume?
The customer car will have P50B in :)
@@mcmurtryautomotive nice, it will be brutal :) are you looking forward to P60B's, they look beastly on paper :D
Was total battery weight the reason for the P26a and not the P42a?
P26a are more powerful, 10c compared to around 7-8c of P42a
I wish the cells individually costs less than $5 but no more like $15-20
@@ZebbMassiv they are much less the 5
Tesla: left the chat
Are you really trying to compare a $1M race car to a $130K Tesla daily driveable sedan that can seat 5?
