You are really clever as you figured out most of the things in the book! I figured some of the things but many important ones I didn't! AND SPOILER i think that being the whole time dead in the movies and books is a little bit cliched but Feeney somehow made it unique and original in some way when is all explained! I really enjoyed the book and gave it four stars and I would like to see more of this type of videos!

    SPOILERS
My first thought was that the grandma orchestrated everything because of how they treated Daisy, (all the tapes were about the family’s treatment of her). That Daisy got blamed for something she didn’t do (this tragic thing she kept mentioning that caused everyone to stopped talking to her) but no one believed her and when grandma figured out the truth she just had enough of her family and wanted justice, something to do with Conor and her sisters and the crush they all had on him.
I feel really sorry for her and I really think her grandma should’ve done more, insist on her socializing with people her own age, pushing for her to have a real education.
I also did figure out Trixie was Conor’s.
I really wish I knew what Daisy think happened at that beach party, after she got ran over, did she really just assumed no one cared at all? Did she filled the blanks with something completely different?
This book reminded me a bit of Emma in the night.
Edit: also a bit unrelated but the food was a big no for me, I refuse to believe anything they ate actually tasted good, like sweet and savory rarely mix well, I definitely wouldn’t be buying grandma’s cooking book but maybe that just me

Good job figuring out the grandma had something to do with it! I felt so sorry for Daisy too. What a messed up childhood the poor girl had. The beach party was such an intense and sad scene. It really highlighted some of the characters' terrible traits even so early on in their lives. I haven't read Emma in the Night! HAHAH THE FOOD! It honestly did sound so gross I was always so confused at that.

Just finished this and thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing style was a bit overdone in some parts, but it was still a page turner.
    Spoilers
I did not see the main plot twist coming, but when it came the clues immediately came back to me. The “Boo” she writes on Conor’s computer or the fact that Nana suggested they sleep in the same room together which I found odd. The fact that no one acknowledged Daisy and the references to her dying. But I suspected Nana wasn’t dead and that Trixie was involved and for a while I thought Daisy was involved too.
There’s a line I absolutely loved from the book.
“But the child was her best achievement, and somehow grew up to be good. It proved that apples do sometimes fall far from the tree, and grow up in a different wood.”

I’m a bit of an outlier here. I thought it was just okay (3.25/5). I’m not a fan of repetition and this was filled with it - on many different levels. That was a huge problem for me. I did figure out one twist and suspected another, but definitely did not figure out the biggest twist. You really made this so much fun to hear your thoughts as you were reading. Kudos to you! 👏 Did you go back to school/work yet? How did it go? We went back last week with no masks.

    *possible spoilers / theories*
My theories were that the Nanna wasn't really dead & was teaching her horrible family a lesson.
    That it was Rose.
That it was Daisy killing everyone but she saved Trixie as she wanted to take care of her so she could live in Seaglass.

    Spoilers :
I am not a native English speaker I don’t know why ppl can’t get the biggest twist of Daisy even I came to realize it at the very beginning of the whole novel😅
When she was with Connor at the same room and Connor just ignored her all the time, it would be rude not matter how Daisy tried to misguide us she has long been forgotten at home, so I started to suspect that. And since then I’ve found multiple times that Daisy said something the family kept on ignoring her, then I was quite sure she was a ghost.
But there’s a saddest line in the end of the story:「Some people are ghosts before they are dead」.

Little tip. Next time just say “I guessed who did it but did not guess the other twist”, because typing out who did it and who is dead added nothing to your comment and unfortunately peripheral vision is a thing and some people like myself scanning the screen may not exactly be looking to read anything and still catch the words.

    Spoiler *****
So I’m on page 80 and for the past 20 pages or so I’m convinced Daisy is not alive. No one ever talks to her, there’s also a line about her grandma believing spirits walk the earth on Halloween. It’s all I can think about as I’m listening to this book. So I’m really hoping that twist is revealed early on because it will drive me crazy if this is in my mind for the whole book! The saving grace is Alice Feeneys writing. I enjoyed Rock Paper Scissors, but not as much as everyone else, it was just a good mystery to me. So maybe I missed how wonderful her writing is. There’s so many quotes I’m writing down (this is a library book or else I would annotate). She just has a beautiful way with words and showing emotion. This is what sets writers like her apart from writers that just write fast thrillers with action action action. Sometimes it’s a bit heavy handed, but I wouldn’t want it cut out,
Okay I’m at the part of the video where you’re saying she’s dead also, which is EXACTLY the reason why I came to your video. I knew if I was figuring this out you would, because I don’t normally try to figure things out, but I know you do!
I might come back and edit this comment as I’m reading over the next few days, love that you did a video like this! 😊
Also the way Daisys inheritance was a gift to the charities she liked, that was another hint. But when Daisy shows up is it the dog Nana is greeting and asking if she wants food? Or can Nana see her? I’m not actually asking lol. And in the very beginning she thinks to herself that she has a secret, it can’t be that she’s passed, because it seems like she doesn’t know.
I wish I could finish this book tonight! 😫

Enjoy!!:)

    • @GabrielTheMagolorMain
      @GabrielTheMagolorMain Год назад

@@HeathersBookReview Well I’m glad you’re selfishly glad I’m trying to figure it out! This is the perfect book for you to do a video like this. I’m on page 245 and am going to power through the audio tonight hopefully. Came back to listen and I had to comment that you’re even thinking about Trixies dad! That’s impressive, those are the kinds of things that just go by me in mysteries. I still haven’t figured out when Daisy died. Sometimes it seems like in the memories she already is, like on Nancy’s 16th birthday Nanas commenting on their dad coming and says, “If he’ll come for one he’ll come for another,” meaning the girls birthday, making it sound like there’s only two sisters, but then they tell Daisy to stop eating the chocolate. So much of her childhood memories she already feels invisible.
I personally think Conor’s in on it..I admit I got spoiled from a comment here saying Nana is in on it, but I don’t mind at all. I’m just reading it now from a different lens. But I’m curious about his dad because what was the point in all that if it means nothing except to serve as an issue between the parents. Or the agent is in on it, but then that means the agent letter at the very beginning isn’t true..but whose boots were those? Im wondering if Conor never had the boat, if he was there the whole time. There’s too many mentions to Nana liking tricks, and her talking about silently getting revenge, or outsmarting people. I’m also thinking Daisy fell off a cliff and they were all present, if not involved, since that’s the way to murder someone she brought up in the beginning and because she talks about dreams where she feels like she’s falling. Im kind of reading it now as what I want to happen, like I want at least one person in this book to be sinister, that it wasn’t just a bunch of accidents. I want Nana to be able to see Daisy, it seems that way from some of the lines in the poems and the notes on the tapes. Another person could be Rose in on it, that she gave Nana medicine to make it seem like the others are dead when they’re not. At this point I don’t think any of them are dead, except for poor Daisy, and I have no idea what her secret is because I don’t think she knows (which you pointed out as well, you pointed out a bunch of this). I am gearing up for the heartache when she figures it out though, I’m guessing on a tape?
I do like that Daisy is a troublemaker. Some of the stuff is awful, that she’s not allowed to do anything. My kid had a ton of health problems, he’s better now, but restricting her life like that is the true horror of this book to me. I figured she was in the locket, her mom loves her in her own way, but not even allowing her to go trick or treating? I get the tide comes in, but that’s straight cold.
Thanks for being a place to share our thoughts! I seriously need an in person book club 🤪

The whodunnit part is so obvious. I already suspected Trixie and thought she did it by herself by walking into the cupboard and all that. I also suspected Nana is still alive, but then she is found again in the cupboard so I thought "well, she's actually dead so it must be Trixie" so I got surprised a little bit when it is revealed at the end that I was right. It was also so obvious as Trixie was waiting in the kitchen while the others saw Nancy's body outside, so she could've easily wiped off the footprints.
But the biggest "ghost" twist did surprise me. Literally a jaw dropping moment. Daisy's family except Nana makes me so angry, especially her two sisters and Conor, but most especially Lily. Gosh they're the worst people ever.

Does any one of you noticed that nobody spoke to daisy directly from the beginning? Even though the author wrote the book in such a way that everybody seems to engaged in a conversation with daisy? Except trixie who spoke directly... Nobody spoke to daisy, although it seems like they are. That is so good about the book. You are in deception. And after reading the whole book i read it again from the beginning and i noticed that nobody spoke to her directly because obviously she was dead.
