I am so impressed with Michelle's knowledge. She is correct that in today's reality the drugs are different than in the 60s, 70s, 80s when experimenting was normal. Today is not IF it will kill you but WHEN. Thank you for sharing his story and thank you Texas Pictures for giving these families a platform.

God bless this mamma and her family ❤ Im so sorry for your loss😢 My nephew died on Oct 20th 2017 at 26 years old. He died from fentanyl and carfentanyl poisoning. It was in cocaine. Im not sure when fentanyl started showing up in the drug supply here in PA, but so many people died around that time here. We live in a rural area. The town my nephew died in is very small. I just want everyone to realize that it doesn't matter your age, race, religion, or socioeconomic status. The month after my nephew passed, a 72 year old man died from fentanyl and a 3 year old died from fentanyl. It amazes me that Mathew Perry's whole supply chain is being held accountable for his death, and yet the kid that supplied my nephew is still living life free as a bird. My nephews life wasnt the only one lost from that dealer. It turns my stomach to see him. The only thing that gives me comfort is knowing that he will be in front of THE JUDGE one day.

It’s really heartbreaking and also makes me also so very angry!!!
It’s an epidemic, nearly just like a Covid virus for the US and this since minimum 10 years…
      - but not much is done,
while our loved ones die like flies every single day!!!
What (another) beautiful and smart boy! He wasn’t even addicted,
he died like so many others from one of his first pills, because they are so much too strong!
Fentanyl is an opioid that is 100(!) times stronger than heroin!!
When will this country really woke up…
      RIP, precious boy🌈❤️✨

I'm glad this mother emphasized marijuana. A lot of these stories seem to start with the person using weed. I know not everyone who uses weed goes to harder things, but given that so many of these stories start with it, there is some validity to calling it the gateway drug. Not everyone goes through that gateway, but lots do.

    • @mattneil1449
      @mattneil1449 2 месяца назад +1

Marijuana is just naturally the first drug young people try. It is readily available, relatively cheap, and has minimal bad side effects. It is no more of a gateway drug than alcohol, but NOBODY has a problem with alcohol 😂

I think it is about a person feeling that they can tolerate life better when they take a drug. Most kids try something, lots try everything. But most of those kids don't get up and take something to be able to face the day. That is the problem.

Cannabis can affect everyone differently and children really are still growing brains so them using it is not the best idea. Beyond that children will try spice thinking it just flower or like flower and it is not the same at all. If you think cannabis is helping your child get a medical marijuana card and have it dispensed properly at the correct levels by a dispensary only.

I have watched sooo many of these videos and most of the kids start on marijuana. I am so tired of hearing that it's only marijuana, it's not a gateway drug. My son started on marijuana as a young teen and he progressed to other drugs. He overdosed on fentanyl in December 2023. By the grace of God he survived and has been in Adult and Teen Challenge since Christmas Day. He will be there until December 2024 and he is doing great. The things he has told me about his way of life was so eye opening and so scary. He is 33 years old. It effects every age. I am so sorry for all of these families who have lost family members.

Cannabis being illegal means you have to be a criminal to sell it. And criminals sell all kinds of drugs.
Make it federally legal and sell it in licensed shops. It hurts the black market and makes it harder to get if you aren’t of age.

@@GutsToCutsyep, that's why despite my own addiction struggles i'm for legalized marijuana and also under very controlled circumstances also other substances. "harder" drugs were only as easily accessible to me in my teenage years because i had to get weed illegally and many people who sell drugs illegally also have access to other substances and don't give a shit about if they are selling it to young people with their brains still in development. it was easier for me to get illegal substances as a minor than getting alcoholic beverages.
prohibition has never worked and only results in more deaths of addicts due to the dosis being unpredictable, substances being laced with others that should not be in there, poisonous counterfeit pills etc.
imo you can't really stop people from getting addicted to substances except with prevention and reducing the stigma of addiction, but you can make the use of those substances as safe as possible to prevent more of those horrible deaths.
i don't know if there is something similar in the US, but in germany we have facilities where addicts can go and use hard drugs like heroin in a sterile setting were they can get fresh needles and other stuff to reduce the risk of infections and there are trained people that can help if someone overdoses. in this facilities the use of illegal substances is basically decriminalized so addicts have a safe place to use their substances. that helped preventing a lot of deaths and proves that creating safer conditions is a lot better prevention than prohibition.

Thank you so much Michelle for sharing the heartbreaking story of the loss of your beautiful son. I am the mom to two sons and a daughter, and with my eldest I too turned a blind eye when he began smoking weed at age 15. Prior to that he had begun with drinking and had on occasion, drank a damaging amount of alcohol, so when he switched to pot - I thought it was a fairly benign choice of the two of them. I had dabbled in my youth and was not aware of how much it had changed in the past 30 years. He is now 21 and has struggled with pills on and off the last 3 years. His personality is different now too.. it makes me sad when I see videos from a few years ago. He OD'd and almost died one morning last year but I found him in his bed and called ems in time. He does not want to go to rehab.. and every day I live in fear that it could happen again. Needless to say, I do not and did not turn a blind eye to pot smoking with his younger siblings. I will always wonder what would have happened if I hadn't ignored it. Thank you for this powerful message and for sharing Trevor with us all.

This a very smart lady & I'm so sorry for her loss . She has educated herself so well not only about weed but opiates as well . I smoked weed from 1984 -2008 / then smoked for a year (2019 ) IMO All weed smells the same no matter how it looks , I enjoyed Dabs but it just was not as enjoyable as it was in my 20;s . I have also been on Methadone for years & it saved me when in 2022 I was going through a hard time ( mil life crisis ? ) and tried Fentanyl / hoping it would break through the methadone " Block " . It really never did ( I only snorted the powder ) but my late friend RIP Josh Aug 4 2023 . would shoot 1/4 of what I would snort & immediately pass out / OD . I say IMO if someone just can not stay off opiates & they have tried many times , Methadone or Sub's may be a life saver . It best TO NEVER USE THO ! God Bless everyone .

I myself am pro cannabis, I smoke it daily, I vape daily, and I have absolutely no desire to try anything else. I mainly smoke it in the evening to help me relax so I can sleep. I have a problem with insomnia. With that being said, I do agree that maybe the age limit should be raised…maybe to 25 to buy marijuana as opposed to 18. Young people tend to think that they’re invincible so maybe giving them a few more years to mature might help the situation.

They reply,” yes Mom, we know Mom.” I may be a pest to them about drugs but at least they are listening. My condolences to Trevor’s beautiful mom and her family. Thank you beyond measure for advocating others about just how dangerous and deadly street drugs are today. A lot of grown adults are still ignorant of thinking marijuana off the streets or from a friend is safe.
My daughter at the age of 18 was in a horrific car accident that nearly took her life. Due to her injuries and some that are permanent ( nerve pain) the pharmaceutical drugs were not only ineffective for pain but potentially addicting if stayed on for chronic pain. The doctors were willing to keep prescribing and thankfully my daughter insisted on refusing them. We sought out alternative homeopathic treatments and when she was of legal age, she obtained a medical marijuana card. In my daughters case, marijuana is the only drug that saved her from potentially being prescribed opioids and becoming addicted to them. She uses marijuana as needed only. I can see how some parents feel marijuana is a gateway drug however but 10 plus years later, my daughter’s marijuana use never led her to opioids. I think educating our children when they are young about drugs can certainly bipass the road to addiction yet some people are born predisposed to addiction and all it takes is 1 prescribed pain pill to trigger a response that could lead them to addiction. Gateway drugs definitely is a debatable topic ( marijuana) but we must continue to educate our youth of the dangers of all drugs that can lead to addiction. Marijuana can be life saving for many. I wish I had all the answers but I don’t. I’m grateful for these parents who are sharing their stories and advocating for a safer future. 🙏🏼

Weed is a drug, your story is a testimony. It should be prescribed and distributed in safe places. Legalizing has meant more distribution, stronger weed, lots of mental problems in young people, many starting in schools at 10, 11. Legalization opened doors for predators selling weed, even laced with fentanyl now.

While many more mothers and fathers will continue to suffer the loss of their children and many more mothers will continue to lose their children, if no action is taken in this regard, the situation is very painful and regrettable.

You are so right about marijuana. My son smoked it for many years and was trying to stop. He did not drink or use hard drugs but was hooked on pot. He usually grew his own but because he was trying to quit he stopped growing it. He was found in May dead on his couch. The coroner told me that there was no hard drugs in his system other than marijuana which was laced with fentanyl that he probably got from someone he trusted, who probably got it off the street. I did not know until my son died that marijuana is being laced with fentanyl. My heart breaks for all of us who are losing loved ones from this epidemic.

Michelle, thank you for your full transparency in this video. Your video has been one of only a few that I have seen out of many that gave a full honesty glimpse of what happened and accountability to your son. I have noticed a lot of parents gloss over that part or blame others. Of course, no one is willingly taking something that they know will kill them, however quite a few people were knowingly taking street drugs. It is amazing to me that now that this crisis is killing yt kids people are wanting some kinds of resolve, treatment etc, however we the crack epidemic hit the Black community no one care about treatment, education etc, they only weaponize addiction and use it to give prison sentences and no one cared about how many people were dying. This society is basis and anti Black in everything.
