    The Ryzen 9800X3D is Wild… Zen 5 X3D Specs & Release Date
    AMD is rumored to be releasing their 9800X3D, 9950X3D, and 9900X3D CPUs much sooner than expected, and they may also be bringing larger performance gains as well. Some are even suggesting the 9950X3D and 9900X3D will house 3D VCache on both CCDs allowing for much better performance and fixing scheduling issues.

    I'm on 5800x3d and game in 4k. Only thing I feel I'm missing out on is hardcore flight sims. The new thing is pretty shiny, though.

    • @rustyshackleford4117
      @rustyshackleford4117 8 часов назад

      Ehh, there are actually other use cases than flight sims. I upgraded from the regular 5800x to 7800x3d last year. Biggest difference for me are two types of gaming applications: High-End Emulation, such as Nintendo Switch with demanding titles like Tears of the Kingdom, as well as very-high FPS gameplay for fast-paced Boomer Shooters or 3d indie games.
      Case in point, for Switch titles, the 7800x3d was able to boost my lowest FPS range (worst case scenario in few parts of the game) in ToTK from around 35-40 FPS to basically 55-60FPS, so that's a nice around 30%+ uplift. For many boomer shooters that have more basic graphics but are insanely fast-paced, I like to play these on my OLED ultrawide -- 5120x1440 monitor that runs at 240Hz. In many of these games, my FPS went up from having lows and drops in the 170 to 180 range in many titles, to basically being locked at 240FPS and capable of going even higher once swapping out to the 7800x3d. Examples include GZDoom, Selaco, Ion Fury, Neon White, Prodeus, Nightmare Reaper, and many others.
      There are many 3D indie titles where this is the case as well, so it's not just for pointless benchmarks of games running at 1080p and low settings --- if you have a very high refresh rate monitor like this, there are definite benefits. For 4K, on my actual OLED TV, the benefits are negligible here I'd say though, as the older CPUs have no issue pushing well over 120FPS. The benefits don't really show unless trying to push some games well over 200, and as far as I know, there are few if any 4K TVs that can do more than say 175Hz or so, with the majority being TVs that cap out at 120.

    4:50 SRAM cache cells themselves are limited when it comes to using smaller nodes, they don't scale good. However as we are talking about uniform circuitry, you can apply other forms of optimizations, which are not (or only) available for mixed circuitry like in CCDs, which includes circuitry with opposing strategies for optimizations.

    • @rustyshackleford4117

      It doesn't matter at 4k@120hz, but it does matter if you say want to play at 5120x1400@240hz. About the same number of pixels, but much higher refresh rate. In older games, boomer shooters, and indie titles, the difference between the 5800x and the 7800x3d is many games dropping or capping at 170-190 FPS, while the 7800x3d can play them locked at 240FPS no sweat.
      That has been my experience since upgrading last year. But yeah, at 4k120 in AAA titles, the 4090 is often the limiting factor moreso than the CPU so Zen3 vs 4 vs 5 won't matter much.
      That said, the 4090 interestingly enough actually leaves a ton of performance on the table even at 4K in many games, that even the 7800x3d can't satiate. This is especially obvious in any titles where you see that the 4090 and 4080 are benchmarking within 10% performance of each other when it should really be 50%, these games are CPU limited even with the 7800x3d not being able to keep up with the 4090 by supplying it adequate frames. You'll also see the 4090 only top out at say 70 to 80% GPU usage in these games. The problem is though, that to push these AAA games higher than the 100-120FPS or so they get with the 4090, we'll need to wait another 3 or 4 CPU generations to have something fast enough to fully satiate the 4090 -- Zen 8 or similar. And this problem of the CPU not keeping up with the GPU in AAA games, is only going to get much worse with the 5090 and later GPUs.
      It's really an issue with shoddy optimization by part of the devs, with them tying lots of things like NPC interactions and AI, movement, and event scripting to the framerate of the game when they really should be decoupled -- there's no need for an NPC to update it's location 120 times per second, 60 is plenty, but when this is tied to the framerate itself it easily becomes the bottleneck. Devs have little incentive to fix this, since their primary target is most often consoles, consoles which mind you, can barely hit 30FPS in most titles these days and rarely run games above 1440p while using shoddy FSR 1.0 upscaling that looks like hot garbage.

Bryan and TCY was the first to notice and the solution was back to Cometand that's what Bryan does flip salvage and finds a solution on the salvage choices. Framechasers saw the issue about the same time Bryan did and was the first to go to solution and solve it. Actual overclocking addressed a specific aspect that was memory OC and Scatter Bencher then summed it up on an evolved validation method. Where were u Conner? Comparison to Arrow Lake was total BS. For example Arrow Lake Wattage at extreme is 295W from the horses mouth. It is also predicted that the jump on performance is huge. We are talking +150% over anything AMD can master and that becomes evident just from Wattage. Wattage is performance. CPU vs GPU no difference. 450W for 4090 or 600W for 5090. Same as 295W for 285KS vs 180W (edit 170W) for 9950X3D. There is 115W (edit 125W) difference and anyone that understands anything it means raw performance. And we all know how good TSMC silicon is. It is the best you can get.
    My prediction is if Arrow Lake is announced at 10th and launched 24th October we won't see any of these X3D silicon launched. Obsolete already. Only reason I see for the X870 board is the 5.0 PCI direct to the CPU for Battlemage. It is about cutting losses.

      From the wattage alone it's performance? WTF are you talking about? All the last gens of Intel CPUs have consistently had more than double the wattage of AMD in the real-world while barely keeping up neck in neck with performance. That didn't make them faster, just wildly inefficient and outdated.
      Also, as an owner of a 4090, I can attest that increasing the wattage is massively diminishing returns. The difference between the card running at 450W vs 500W or 600W is 10%, and then 1-2%. So no, wattage has jack shit to do with performance in many cases especially once you're close to the silicon limit.
