I have had mine for several years. Harbor Freight gives a life time warranty on this so just take it back and get a new one! I only use mine to split rounds that I cannot lift....oak, hickory, maple in the 20 to 24 inch diameter range. I split them in half or even quarters so I can lift them to my other splitter. Since I am 75 years old, I have to work smarter, not harder! LOL

Thanks for the advice. I'll see about taking it back to HF. I don't have the receipt and I tried to re-weld it so they might tell me all bets are off. It doesn't hurt to ask I suppose.

Another mod I want to do is get a sharp knife edge for the front of the wedge. That wedge point and angle is a bit tough on some wood that would benefit from a knife edge cutting into it first.

Love mine. Have it at the house, and the main splitter in my barn for the days when doing LOTS of firewood splitting. This at the house allows for quick split of larger stuff than I can do by hand. Saves on the Carpal Tunnel as well.
Never bleed it using the directions in the manual though, hah hah ...or you'll get oil all over.
You bleed what air you can before ever adding oil. Then the RAM *MUST* be retracted when adding oil. Then you bleed any remaining air out with the plug again.
The front RAM seal is going bad on mine, need to get a seal kit for it.
I made a wheel modification to mine using a couple 4 inch rubber tires I got from HF and some bolts for axles. Just a bit of drilling to switch out from these steel caster wheels to something that makes it a lot easier to move around on ground or anywhere.

Your wheel idea is awesome. I'm gonna do that.

@corporategonecountry , I actually got it from this guy:
      ruclips.net/video/04dN3XhXMmY/видео.html
He used a straight ROD all the way across. I just used 2 Bolts at the right size for axles. I did have to drill the holes just like he did but, either way, it's a nice upgrade.
One thing is that it won't sit level without something to rest the front end on because the tires bring that end higher.
Hope you get your welds fixed up soon. :)

@@corporategonecountry and on the bleeding and re-topping off of oil, watch this one. This is the right way, the manual is wrong.
