- There's something so satisfying about a center strike on a Persimmon driver. The Fried Egg's Andy Johnson knows the feeling all too well, and constantly chases it.
Andy builds his custom set of brand new, old-school Louisville Golf clubs ahead of the Charles Schwab Challenge on Part 1 of Against the Grain, presented by Charles Schwab.

Got my Jeanie Deans Driver a few weeks ago. Ball speed 150. Carries 245 and rolls out to 275. love it. excited to get my iron set next month! 100% changes your perspective of the game and makes it immeasurably less stressful and fun
I have a Wilsonian and wish I could get 240 carry! Guess I'm gettin OLD!

Cool! I love playing hickories. Brings so much more to your experience.
Just so authentic and the quality looks amazing! There’s a bucket list journey to get a set made to order and then tour some of the great golf courses around using hickory ⛳️
PGA Tour would be watchable again if they used wooden clubs even 1 time per year
Sandy Lyle used his hickories in the Masters practice round. Story is Tiger Woods wanted to know where he got them. I wonder how many of todays players would play hickory even for A few million in the winners check"?
They should be a PGA hickory tour. The Open would be awesome to see played with hickory.
@@jdanderson1365 Where. Do. I. Sign.
Play with their #2 and #3 woods and their great. The distance was a surprise and the feel was awesome, everyone is amazed when they see me hit them.
I love the listing of stains. 😂
Nice work, love the passion for these clubs… I started my golf life using a buddies moms set with a Patty Berg driver which was amazing when I got it right otherwise my hands would be tingly for a few minutes lol
Say Charles Schwab one more time!
Been there. Thought Louisville Golf was a really cool place.
I'd love to go there!
Super cool 😎
I suck with up to date modern clubs....but I'd LOVE a Hickory set. Too bad they are too expensive for me 🥲
You play golf shots not yardage.
100%! So much more fun
@@pesmaniac But still sadly bad shots and doubly bogeys are annoying! It's not always the club but a good excuse to tell your playing partners that play modern clubs.
@@humdrummed that don’t bother me as much. Instead it’s fun to show how good you can play with hickories and beat those with modern clubs, rangefinders etc.
has anyone here bought and tried the vardon bulldog? it's such a cool looking club, wonder how it plays.
I’m almost sold.. what ball do you use.?
What's going on with the sound ? It clashes a lot with the quality of the video
but... you didnt show the details of building them :/
If I’m going to spend over $3000 on clubs I know what I’m buying it won’t be persimmon
Built by hand... using a CNC machine and lathe... but i know what you mean.
Would have loved to see anything more than a glorified Zoom meeting. Wasn't this supposed to be about hickory clubs? We just got golf course b-roll with commentary from someone who can't even edit the "S" from his mic
