As a child battling depression in high school was surely not easy for Aruna but with the help of her parents, she was successful in getting help because of her trust in reaching out and it is because of this experience she is passionate about Mental Health especially among youths. Mental health with teenagers is an essential topic in our society, one that needs much added attention. Depression and anxiety are two critical issues that teenagers face which can stem from the workload in high school, peer pressure, bullying etc. to the simpler things such as acceptance into groups, economic status etc. these are all factors that can contribute to their mental health. As such, she has decided to implement a Mental Health outreach campaign to visit various high schools across the country to engage in meaningful mental health discussions called “Gyaff it off” this will create a safe space for our children in each school to be able to shared their stories and find solutions to help them overcome their struggles, while ultimately creating a ripple effect in every school she visits.
Aruna also created history for Guyana by being the second Guyanese to win the prestigious Miss India Worldwide pageant in 30 years.
