Survival won't always be happy business;), but it's a great way to really test and practice your skills and develop your personality! The stone boiling purification method is definitely not invented by us, haha, our ancestors must already have done it for 10's of thousand years. How would you purify water if you wouldn't have a industrial made container?;) Great to receive your interesting comments again! sorry for the late reply. Julius

    Man, those Midges were fucking intense! Reminds me of a narrow channel between the mainland and an island in Queensland, Australia. It's called 'The Narrows', and runs from the mouth of the Fitzroy River in the North, down to the Gladstone Harbour. It is a very narrow stretch of water with both sides being mud and mangrove forest. It is the only thing that separates Curtis Island from the mainland. The sandflies there gather in clouds around. A spray on strong personal repellent is an absolute necessity. I once slept in the open on an island just South of Curtis. I had covered myself in repellent but not my eyelids. In the morning, I could barely get my eyes open because mosquitoes had bitten my eyelids to the point where they'd swollen.

    • @SmoothGefixt
      @SmoothGefixt  7 лет назад

      It is amazing how something so small and tiny can really mess you up!! Suppose The saying: ' together we stand strong' (for the midgies;) ) applies... :( We usually bring our head-nets or hammock with inbuilt flyscreen with us but they are definitely concidered luxury items on our survival trips! ;) All the best, Dylan

    Brilliant boiling the water in a log with hot rocks. Improvise. Again I must say you need to really reduce the size of your spindle drastically. No more than 3/4 in. It will spin faster thereby creating more heat quicker and with a whole lot less effort. Just don't bare down real hard or you will drill through the hearth board. Go lightly at first until you feel it drop in the sweet spot then bare down just a bit more. It does not take a lot of downward pressure. I know I have pointed this out in other videos but I just subscribed and can't help but put in my 2 cents worth as I labor for you just watching. With decent material it should not take more than a minute and with good materials about 30 seconds or so. Love your videos...y'all truly are some of the best survival content to watch. Lots of fun just watching and listening to the banter and the authenticity of your videos.

    The midgets were SO EASY to manage! All you need to do is to rub some mud on all your exposed skin parts - arms and face and neck etc. They can’t penetrate and you won’t feel them at all. This will give you peace and the necessary time to do your stuff slowly and in an orderly fashion! After you start the fire you can wash it all off ...but these things comes with experience. Making fire quickly is not the only solution and survival in general is not about making fire! Try to survive for 72 hours without any fire as in a true concealment situation on an enemy territory!

      Try the forests around the South of Scotland. It's legal to camp in the wild there and it's sparsely populated.

      Hehe it should be us you have to feel bad for! :p With the dogs double fur coat and way tougher skin than humans, he was hardly effected by it. Jaeger also seems so have a very good instinct for finding the right chillspots. Little corners with no midgies and like thermal hotspots to sleep in. very fascinating to observe!:) Appreciate your comments and concerns tho! Cheers, Dylan

    If you take a green sapling and bend it so that it doubles on itself (Without breaking all the way through the branch), it can then be secured with a bit of cordage near the open end. Makes a better set of tongs for transporting your hot rocks. Being green gives it some flexibility so that it will snap back, and the cordage will give it some resistance. With a quick slip knot or taut line hitch, you could then tension your tongs just right to make a claw-action. Thanks for the fun video!

    that pine needle tea (along with the method of making it) is one of the coolest bushcraft things I've seen for a while. Something enlightening about drinking/eating stuff using no 'manmade' tools

    I just stumbled across your channel. Love it already. Wherever you are in this video is a very cool area, beautiful and harsh. I think you guys should try to include temperature to give the watchers a better feel for what you're dealing with. I love what you guys are doing, keep it up.
