I power lifted for years… that wide grip “power lift” benching killed my shoulders. Ur way “bodybuilding bench” is a shoulder saver as well ! Love the material big Mike !
It's unbelievable the simplicity in the concepts you mention and teach, i have learn't so much from your videos and apply a lot of it to my training. As a big guy it's hard to find guy who understand what its like and to learn new thing that would help me improve as well as shedding new light into some of the simplest things. Thanks so much for the content, hands down one of the best people fitness wise in the world right now 🤙👌👌
Thanks Mike for all you do. I'm new to building and want to build good habbits and the info you share is huge for me! Especially the mental aspect - Im no longer worried about PRs or if I use barbells or not. Also how do I get some of your Wycked merch for myself?
People keep assuming "flat bb bench" is the wide grip, super arched powerlifting competition form for some reason. No one is stopping you from taking a natural arch and using a comfortable grip. The pecs bring your elbows in towards the torso. A wide grip fixed on a barbell doesn't do that.
I get the difference in arch and hand width for bench, but I don't understand the "expand the chest" for powerlifting vs "lift the chest" for bodybuilding? I took a screenshot of each style when you were in the bottom position, and it looks like the elbow is significantly lower than the shoulder with the bodybuilding technique than with the powerlifting one; would you say that is accurate? I've always thought that "lifted, spread chest with shoulders back and down" was the "correct" foundation for chest and back work, so I'd really appreciate your perspective on how to frame this. Your content rocks, keep up the great work!
Mike Love the content your giving, just wanted to know if most your info and technique more toward guys on Gear or Naturals .. meaning can the stuff you put out work for natural lifters .. thanks mr myles .. keep up the good content.
Technique is exactly the same for both. Water retention and muscle mass from drugs could alter movement patterns if you learned them as a natural first. Mike's principles will help you to adjust to those too.
I went in for a spine surgery to fix 5 her later discs and they may have fucked me up to the point that I can't lift heavy ever again I was expecting to come out with stronger spine now I'm 25 percent of what i use to have pre surgery how fucked is that
Good points on the contrast, but (in my opinion) not entirely spot on. Go watch how James Strickland aka Swimhack benches. Looks very similar to how you explain the bodybuilding bench. A lot of the guys that can bench over 500 raw seem to use a technique closer to that bodybuilding bench. I think the bigger issue is powerlifting took Westside Barbells style of benching which is wide grip elbows flared, but that style was developed for benching in supportive gear. Again, just my opinion. I could be wrong 🤷🏻♂️
I kind of blame Ronnie for the Powerbuilding craze. Suddenly people were trying to shift powerlifting poundage's and rep ranges, with bodybuilding volumes and frequencies, and it's just a shit-show that ensures you inhabit a no-man's land of physiological conflict and lanes not stayed in.
should i do a little pause at the bottom of the press? end if so, what kind? should i kind of bounce it, keep it in one place or let it rest on my chest? thanks
I think bouncing is bad because you could damage your rib cage and resting it on your chest would stop tension on the muscles. My guess would be no just keep it controlled and focus on your form and mind/muscle connection.
Sir Plese Make a Video on if someone have in past Slip Disk injury in lower back and Recover 80 percent Then how to build a back muscle which exercise we should do and avoid

Your awesome dude don’t stop 👌👍🙏 love your rants lol 😂 💪🙈😁😇

Powerlifting is about lifting a certain number in a bench press.
Bodybuilding bench press is all about a bigger chest and feeling the chest working.
Mike what do you think about cable flys for chest? Can you make a video on with your thoughts on this thanks man
I’ve done videos on the topic. Search u must young skywalker

Funny you had a short video like this explaining why powerbuilding doesn't make sense a year before that became a hot topic to debate.
Mike hates using plurals for anything. On hand, through lat, roll quad. Etc haha jk
Good tips but it’s Cuz he’s pretentious af and wants to sound unique
Well he said "fucking idiots" 😂🤷🏽♂️
@@Whocares1987 pretentious is my middle name. That’s crazy
I'd be cool to see Mike on ink master getting tatted. It looks like he has some inkable open canvas on his quads.
Other than the narrower grip I’m not sure I understand the difference.
The "other" (lifetime natural cough cough) Mike is not going to be happy about this LOL
Who cares
Gurjar🙋🏻♂️
💯👍🏼👍🏼
Make good sense. I tell guys all the time if your not power lifting, bring your arms in and don't go so damn wide lol.but hey
Main reason I don't want to workout at Pure - seeing a video of Mike making fun of me in the next video. No one is safe from this guy. lol
Lol. Not true. I take motivation for my vids from many different places
Bend the elbow? What the heck, I'll give it a shot. Mike's been right about pretty much everything else. Drive on and remember: Consistency over Time!
1:54 this man is an absolute HOUSE but still uses collars to bench 95lbs. Legend!
Safety first
If you don't make it a habit for the light weights you'll forget to do it when going heavy.
