Something I added to my tool box this year that has been a game changer is a pair of serrated edge shears/scissors. The serrated edge stops slippery fabrics from moving so the fabric has a nice crisp cut instead of jagged edges. Another gift idea is a sewing class...like yours 😉
So those are awesome gifts ! To up you ironing, I suggest a CLAPPER ! This is a game changer for crisp professional creases and pleats. It also helps to « fix mistakes » in many types of natural fabrics. I have so many little gadgets in my sewing arsenal ! I am a gadget girl ! I would have to show you pictures as I don’t know all the names ! Here is a list of objects I own to make my life easier: rotary cutters: one for fabric and one for paper (I trace a lot of patterns onto paper), carbon paper, punches, awls, measuring wheel (another game changer), sewing allowance magnets to put of scissors, measuring gauge, fine black tape (to design on my dressform, like Project Runway !), pelican scissors, paper notcher, all types of wheels (from dull to spiny), a makeup brush (to clean the serger) AND pattern weights ! I am sure I have forgotten something but I do a lot of patterning and adjusting paper and everything helps me a lot ! Oh and I recently found this app Ibis Paint on which I can model my designs to check put the fabric mixes ! It is amazing ! Ok, bye for now !
I know you have mentioned this before, I would like to know more about thread to use and tips on how to organize my sewing scraps, buttons, sippers etc..
Hi Angelina- I just downsized for a year I’m guessing and one tip it’s kind of a no brainer, but get the clear 59 liter I think they are sterilite bins. As many as possible! I got them for less than $5 each at Walmart. If they are the same size and clear you will be amazed how you’ll play Tetris with them, yet how much crazier it could be. I am finally living with less bins and since storage was my mission?-Tip#2- think outside the box with storage. Every piece of furniture must contain maximum storage. A nightstand with three drawers vs. one. A cabinet without glass to hide clutter. I got an inexpensive bed with drawers built in. You get the idea. Offer up has been a lifesaver too! I furnished my place for around $400, nicer furniture than I had before! ( I came home from abroad with nothing). Good luck and God bless to you and you kids!
So glad you posted this! Those clips are a game changer! And once you get a serger you use it so much more than anticipated. For those wanting a dressform but without the dollars, get some dollar store duct tape, an old t shirt and make a duct tape dress form. I'm just finishing mine up and can't believe how close the measurements work out to be. Perfect option! No, but better than nothing.
Adding to my Amazon cart as I watch!!! Thank You!! Another great suggestion for the pilling on clothes is a sweater stone, you can purchase on amazon and joannes!
As a retired engineer, I learned drafting before AutoCad. I used my flexible curve, French curves, and T square all the time for hand drafting. Time savers and tremendous helps. 😊. I also love my pinking shears for curvy edges.
Finding your channel was literally GAME CHANGING for me. There are some great teachers on RUclips for general clothing construction, but unique alterations are what I LOVE. THANK YOU
I own four legged luxuries and sew for our four legged babies but I am about to redo my wardrobe after finding you. I use the clips and love love love them
Last year I gifted myself the world's best tape measure. Australia has used the metric system for more than 40 years yet it is difficult to find a tape measure that is only metric. While in France I found the world's best tape measure. It is only in centimetres/millimetres, which ever end you use one side starts from zero and it is colour blocked every 10cm. I love it so much I bought several, giving some away as gifts. Thank you France!
I treated myself to a cordless iron...game changer especially when ironing on a random table. Babylock has an easy serger that uses an air burst to shoot the thread into the right position..go to a dealer for a demo. Easy peasy and no longer fear changing thread color as needed.
Angelinaaaaa you're my favorite diy/RUclipsr you bring such wonderful energy even when I'm having a bad day you lift up my spirits! I always look forward to your new videos!! ❤😊
Girl I am a sucker. I loved everything. I got excellent sheers but not in black, I got a great iron, I got an old fashion lent brush, dress form, serger, but I don't have the lights, or printer, I'm scared to try twin needles. I love my clips, but no printer. You made me want everything. Thanks for the information. I need to do some shopping.
May= Mother’s Day. Many sewing machine stores have half off sales during May. I broke down and bought a Babylock with air threading which is amazing, and I love it!
Attn. MissBrooks. Loved that old show, ‘Our Miss Brooks’ w/ Eve Arden. You should have a place to add another thread spool. The thread holder should have come w/ your machine. Then you thread both threads through the machine and separate them at the needle. One thread in each needle. You should always check you manual, if you don’t have one, you can always find it on the internet. Search your machine make and model a If your machine can use a twin needle, the instructions should be there. BTW: make sure you have the correct throat plate on your machine. If the hole is too small, you will break your needle on the first stitch. Turn the wheel by hand before you hit the pedal. It’s easier than it seems. Good luck.
I have a dress form and I padded it up in places where it needed it (it was a cheap one) to fit my measurements and used an old high neck t-shirt to cover it with. Works like a charm. I am wanting a serger so that is next on the list. The serger is the last item I feel I need besides a quality pair of cutting shears. I love those clips and use mine for hems and holding things together when I sew. Great video Angelina!
as someone who doesn't have a sewing machine yet, i would say that and the defuzzer would be my top gifts! also again i love all your videos. the laugh when you made the asmr joke was extra heartwarming and it's also so wholesome that you go the extra mile by showing how to sew on yourself when you do have dress forms to encourage others to begin their sewing/upcycling journey even without the luxuries
Yes yes yes!!! Love this video & would love the videos on the Serger & the Cameo! I so have been thinking about the Cricut or the GlowForge & wanted to know other options. Thank you!
Thank you so much for doing this video it answered a lot of my questions I am now a domestic goddess retired and he is very hard on his clothes cuz of his job and I also for the fun of it wanted to do different color armchair cuffs for my sofa I'm really into vintage looking things so I really wanted to do something fun maybe change them once a week so the architecture ruler will be awesome I'm going to look that up tomorrow thank you
I just think you are such a refreshing change in honesty and genuineness! Now, I’m really interested in the flexible ruler and just got a gift card for my birthday! I’m on it! 😂 thank you!
Thank you for doing the review on Amazon for the brother 6000i sewing machine! Not only did I buy the new version, but I also became addicted to watching your channel.
Also you need a ‘clapper’. It’s a wood block that you put over the HOT FABRIC you have just ironed and it sets the ‘press’ or crease. It does this by quickly absorbing the steam from the fabric. Also, a server it one of the best purchases you will make. You never just pull out the thread, you tie it to the old thread and SLOWLY pull it through until it gets to the needle or the strike plate. But sergers a totally worth buying.
Love this video. What I added to my sewing room was one of those little mini sewing machines. I think they are so cute but very useful. The machine is very inexpensive on Amazon. I just love it. I have two other machines one is very heavy it has a motor the other is lighter with multiple settings. I always gift myself. I say yes! Why not. I have learned so much from your videos.
Yes, a video on that Silhouette Cameo 4, how to use it. Also a video on selecting a cutting machine, pros and cons of various brands etc. Thank you for speaking so clearly and at an outstanding volume level. I just recently found your videos (less than a month ago.) I have enjoyed and found useful info in everyone I have viewed.
Can confirm about seam rippers for sure!!!! I have like four.....but I can only find one of them at any given time. I swear the others must totally exit my house during those times, haha.
You are beyond your years young lady, so informative and entertaining! Sewing can be frustrating because there is so much to learn. It seems to me that we need to learn new skills with every project mostly because they require working with different tools from sewing machines to the seam rippers. Thank you!
Have most of the items on your list, gifted myself those clips last year. For some unknown reason, I never received sewing related items for Christmas....I guess my folks figured that I would get it myself. I definitely need to get that flexible ruler. I lost one and that blade seam ripper when I was doing quilting seminars at the library. Those scissors and striplights are enticing!! I am so with you regarding irons....because I do drop irons...I did have an $80.00 iron once and didn’t make it past one year so I stick to $25.00 iron and below ones...Have a good holiday!
I have the same serger & the Brother coverstitch (think serger but no cutting blade) that I “accidentally” ordered from Amazon. It does the professional serged hems & gives a neater appearance on a lot of other things. I really haven’t discovered everything that it does. My serger died a few years ago & I wanted a new one this summer for sewing. I somehow ordered the more expensive hemmer, but I decided that I would just keep it after using it a few times. It’s actually harder to thread than the serger!
I have the Brother ST4031 serger and I love it! I just got it for my birthday and so far it’s been wonderful! I went with that over the 1034D just because I figured the “strong and tough,” would be useful. I haven’t really stress tested it yet, but it has been able to easily go through multiple folded over seams.
I’ve been waiting for this video! I’ve been looking at your tools of the trade trying to see what I need to step my game up. Thank you 🙌🏽. Looking forward to the serger video.
You are right the lightbulb on my machine died and I decided to buy the cheap led strip instead and not looked back since so much brighter I love them and like yours they dim Ince
Love your videos!!! I’m a beginner. I have given away so many clothes through the years I still loved but felt like I had worn them too many times. I always thought “What if I could remake them into something else” I didn’t know this was a thing!!! I’m so glad I found you Angelina!! I’m binging your videos and learning so much!! I joined your FB page to and I can’t wait to share my first upcycle 🥰
The next large purchase I want is a coverstitch machine. They make those beautiful sergerlike hems and seams on knits like active wear, and t-shirt hems etc. I have been sewing since I was 5 so 60 years! I do like sewing with knits and love upcycle as well so this machine is on my dream list.
What a great video! I appreciate that you offer tool ideas for those of use who aren't ready to buy commercial grade equipment! I want to dip my feet in first! I want the curved ruler and the shears and the clips for now. . . and I love your idea of upcycled T-shirts. I just purchased one of your T- shirts as a Christmas present to myself. I love the affirmation! But I would buy an upcycled one in a heartbeat!
The Led light strip yesssss! I’m in design school and the tools your discussing are on point. Rowenta irons 👍🏿only iron I use for sewing & are used in our sewing lab. Shears you suggested another class must have.
I finally subscribed. Lol. Thanks for the ideas. I actually just got a serger with my birthday money from April. It was a steal. A person was seller her like new machine for $150. I am so giddy using it and this weekend I actually made it a cover. 😁
Angelina, I am really glad I found your RUclips channel. All these videos are a real help to me as I have never been good at sewing. If you have not already done so, please do a tutorial on the Printing Machine as I would love to know how to use one when I am able to get one. Thank you for your inspiration. Love from June.
My top two gifts would be nice scissors, or some guttermann thread. Good thing about nice scissors is they can range in price from 20-300$ so they can fit any budget
I received my tailors shears (the one with a larger hole are called shears, i learned) last year. they're a Chinese brand, LOL so they were cheap (some $30?) and they work just fine. They cut at the tip as well. They're very heavy and i don't need another pair. (i want another pair, that's different, LOL). It seems that over here, the best such shears were made by the Gypsy craftsmen and apparently now they're hard to come by. and pricey when you find them (i expect at least twice as much as this Chinese one). What i really want though, is a double needle. ;p i'm a simpleton, haha.
Hi! newbies here from Philippines 🇵🇭 I really love your RUclips content that's why I send you love and support. 💝 I really wanted to know more about sewing and buying some stuff. More future videos to come and keep safe 🤗❤️
I have everything you featured except for the Cameo. An embroidery machine is on my wish list instead. I absolutely agree with your 10, especially having a good steam iron.
Embroidery machines are addictive I have a single needle husqvarna Viking topaz that is also a sewing machine then a year later got a used 6 needle baby lock, Bertha, then two years later a newer used 6 needle, Bertha Jr. BJ for short
Well, I just went and bought the serger .... I've been eyeballing it for a long time and the price dropped to $236.52 ... I'm still paying off my million-dollar sewing machine, but I figure this might be the only time for a while that the Brother has gotten so low. Everyone seems to love it. I also accidentally purchased some fabric that I had in my cart and forgot about (because I was so excited about the serger)...... and I'm staying home this winter! Everyone please be safe!!
First that color is gorgeous on you. I am not an architect but I have used so many measuring tools they use for drafting buildings for years. For some reason we had them laying around (No architects in my family). But that curved ruler would be amazing. A good quality seam ripper makes a huge difference. Plus I love clothing shaver. I have been using one for years. It really extends the life of clothes. I get pills in my t'shirts around the book area frequent not to mention sweaters ect. These are all great gifts. I want the shears. So really bad.
Yes, the scissors were definitely a game changer for me! I'm used to just buying the scissors from Walmart. ☺️ I didn't know it made that much of a difference.
One gift that is most needed but people seldom mention is a foldable sewing table. It doesn't needs to be a custom thin. Many stores including ikea carries such and they are a necessity for people who can't have a dedicated sewing room.
Had to down size...no room for a sew table..I did have 3 ironing boards (garage sales) put them up & slapped a cutting mat on top ...There you go the height is nice & high, did a happy dance ! hope this helps someone
I highly recommend the BootStrap Fashion sew-it-yourself dress form. You enter your measurements in to their website, and they email you a custom pattern to print out, along with instructions.
Hi Angelina: You are so inspiring! My favourite department store went out of business and I decided to upcycle clothing that I purchased from local thrift shops. I started years ago, but your channel is amazing! Your gift ideas are wonderful! Thank you.
Use paper cutter knives for seam ripping. It’s required a bit of practice and replacing the blade often, just like needles. A lot of seamstresses I know doing this.
Thanks for this video. My birthday is also in December so I can spread these gift ideas out between both holidays lol. It is a pandemic and a lot of people are short on cash, have you seen the videos for homemade dress forms made with masking tape? If you are familiar with them, what is your opinion of them, and would you do a video on that for us?
I am hoping this Christmas I'll have one of them. I really wanted to sew but I don't have sewing machine it's my dream to have one. I was about to buy this year actually but pandemic happen and don't have budget for that. If somebody will give me one I am very very thankful and happy for that. ☺️🤗
Yessss welcome to silhouette. I love your must have videos. Can you do a tutorial on the serger and settings? I'm still not getting it, I'm spending too much time treading it so it just sits there. I have the same one you have thanks.
How about Grace Kelly’s dress in her opening scene in the movie “ Rear Window” I saw it and thought about what you do and imagine you could do something of that nature. Just a thought. Love what you do! 💛
I have the first Cameo Silhouette still new in the box never really used it ,now I really due need to I’m learning from watching other. Can you due a few on yours please 🤔❣️
Santa Baby, I been good all this year.....here is my Christmas list. I def need the iron because I moved and don't have one because I gave my daughter mines. So these scissor are better than the gold one on Amazon? Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
Rowentas are great irons. Those adjustable forms are great, my daughter is skinny and i'm a plus size, great investment and time saver.Thanks. Did not know about the needle that double stitches!
The only reason I found out about the twin needle is because my sewing machine came with one. Fast forward a whole year and I'm just now figuring out how to use it. 😆
I've only been sewing for 6 months and find myself wanting a serger. Is it too early in my skill level to purchase one? I need a dress former also. Once I get a sewing room these are at the top of my purchase list.
Hello Angelina 👋 I used your link to buy the fabric shears but I’m from Canada, the website immediately directed me to the Canadian website, hopefully it will still help you out with the channel, thank you for your suggestions! Appreciated
You can never have too many seam rippers....I always pick one up when there is a notion sale...mostly because I constantly misplace them...and they get dull.
I have a Rowenta that has 300 steam holes. I think I paid around $75 for it two years ago. Sometimes you can get them on sale or coupons at JoAnn, but BEWARE EXCLUSIONS.
Something I added to my tool box this year that has been a game changer is a pair of serrated edge shears/scissors. The serrated edge stops slippery fabrics from moving so the fabric has a nice crisp cut instead of jagged edges. Another gift idea is a sewing class...like yours 😉
Yesss, Ms. Jacqui! I love both those ideas! 😁
I have these, so great or chiffons, silks, etc.
How do you sharpen the shears?
So those are awesome gifts ! To up you ironing, I suggest a CLAPPER ! This is a game changer for crisp professional creases and pleats. It also helps to « fix mistakes » in many types of natural fabrics. I have so many little gadgets in my sewing arsenal ! I am a gadget girl ! I have that same iron. Upgraded from my 8 year old goodwill iron this summer and OMG! It seriously changed my pressing. I find it kind of zen now!
Yesss, me too! And I never liked to iron before.
I just got that second one for the sweater at 99cent store for about 2 or 3 dollars recently.

Thanks June! I'll be doing that tutorial soon. 😊 Welcome to the BlueprintDIY family! 🤗💕
And a good pair is a buy once deal.
Exactly! Yes, thread is a great gift as well.
Clips are great for binding a quilt.
Hi! newbies here from Philippines 🇵🇭 I really love your RUclips content that's why I send you love and support. 💝 I really wanted to know more about sewing and buying some stuff. More future videos to come and keep safe 🤗❤️
Welcome to the BlueprintDIY family! 🤗💕
@@BlueprintDIY Aw, Thank you 💕🤗😊
I like the logo that is a great idea , also can print really small and get your label 🏷 on your clothes
I didn't see anyone mention it, but the scissors that sound like "gingham" are Gingher, available at Jo-Ann Stores.
Thanks!!
*pauses video every 23 seconds and clicks add to cart* HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ME!!! LOLL!!!
I have everything you featured except for the Cameo. An embroidery machine is on my wish list instead. I absolutely agree with your 10, especially having a good steam iron.
Oooh, an embroidery machine would be awesome too! 💕
Congrats! I know you're going to love it! 💕
Yes, that’s a good one!
Try a Babylock Serger. I bought an Imagine Serger over 13 years ago and it is still working great. It has “air” threading. Try it.
Hi Angelina: You are so inspiring! My favourite department store went out of business and I decided to upcycle clothing that I purchased from local thrift shops. I started years ago, but your channel is amazing! Your gift ideas are wonderful! Thank you.
Thank you!! 😊
Lady you are a genius!!! I love this video and I learned sooooo much. Thank you.
Yayyy, I’m so glad!
Could you do a video on reasonably priced ironing boards. Preferably under $200. Looking for one that won't wiggle so much.
I'll be working on that this month. 😁
How about Grace Kelly’s dress in her opening scene in the movie “ Rear Window” I saw it and thought about what you do and imagine you could do something of that nature. Just a thought. Love what you do! 💛
I would love a tutorial on the Silhouette Cameo 4. ❤️❤️❤️
I want to know about a serger that sews/sergeres on top of fabric with out cutting it, and sergers with cutter as well.
Great information, especially about the iron, love irons and only iron when I sew.
Screen print tutorial? YES PLEASE!!
Yes! definite future videos on how to use Cameo 4 (roll used for it) and serger!
I love that...Whitley and Jaleesa. These are some great gift ideas. I want a serger so I am looking forward to your review.
I was wondering how many people would get the Different World reference. ☺️
You are such a great source of valuable information! So glad I found you. Thank you for sharing.
I'm a new subscriber and I've seen you in several tutorials. You are so informative and I enjoy watching you and learning from you. Saginaw, Texas
Yayyy another Texan! Thanks so much!!
Surgical seam rippers are amazing!!
Yes do a tutorial on the silhouette cameo 4 please Thank you
How is your iron working? I couldn’t find that model online or in store. Love your videos.
Mine still works well but I had the same issue when I went to buy another one for my office so I got this one amzn.to/3R6wlFH
I've only been sewing for 6 months and find myself wanting a serger. Is it too early in my skill level to purchase one? I need a dress former also. Once I get a sewing room these are at the top of my purchase list.
try getting an “overlock foot” or a “lock cutter foot” for your machine if you want a more affordable option to see if you want the full upgrade
Please do a tutorial on the Silhouette Cameo 4. New to your channel & loving it... Thanks...
I have always wanted a surger! That would be a luxury for me. Thanks for putting this together And sharing your thoughts. 🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤🌞🌻💐
Yes, I would love to see how to use the cameo. I love your videos.

All this time I was just looking at your lipstick, it looks so beautiful on you 😊
Thanks so much!! 😁 It's an NYX shade. When I looked it up to buy more I realized that they don't make it anymore. 😭
I just lately discovered your channel and I'm ecstatic! would love a tutorial on the cameo.
Welcome to the BlueprintDIY family! 🤗💕 I'll definitely be doing a tutorial about it.
Thanks for the video!!!! I’m looking forward to your review in the sergers. I would love to see your review on your Silhouette Cameo.
I’m actually asking Santa 2 of those for Chrismas😜 the surger and the mannequin
Bert Christmas list yet! I’ve been eyeing those clips for awhile now and will finally put them on my gift list :)
Thank you for sharing!
Hello Angelina 👋 I used your link to buy the fabric shears but I’m from Canada, the website immediately directed me to the Canadian website, hopefully it will still help you out with the channel, thank you for your suggestions! Appreciated
Thanks so much!! 😁 I appreciate you!
I would love to learn about the Cameo 4 I have one also still in the book, let me know all about it.
I sure will 👍🏽
