leathertoolz thank you for the reply. I didn’t even know they were out of business lol. Do you know any good edgers like this that are very cheap, but still good? Thank you.
Is the grey compound coarser than the green compound, I reckon? If I need to sand it, would I still need to use the grey compound or straight use the green compound after the sand paper? Also which number sand papers do you suggest? I reckon wet sanding right?
Great question. Color doesn't tell the grit. It depends on the manufacturer. Normally though, green is finer than white. White is finer than black. after you sand it(or sharpen with stones) you need to finish at least 2000 grit sand paper, yes wet sand. if you finish with stones, finish with 6000 I recommend stones. after you sharpen it either stone or sandpaper, finish with green compound
leathertoolz Thanks a lot for your prompt response! I only have sand paper...handy, so you reckon I should start with 400,800,1200, and finish with 2000? What is your advice?
you don't need to start from 400 grit always. 1) if your edge is damaged/rusted, you better start from 400 grit papers because it's faster. 2) when you want to maintain your edge, just strop. 3) if you are just trying to get sharper edge, yes, start from 400 but don't do it every time. Thanks for watching!
leathertoolz Hi there again ! I just ran into a problem with my French edger. I initially sanded the edger with various grits of sand paper then stropped it on the green compound, it would better than before ! Then I just wanted it slightly more sharpened, and sanded it slightly more, and stropped some more... and when I tried to skive again , it wasn’t sharp and I could barely skive !!! ? I mean literally nothing was skived and absolutely blunt now ! What could’ve I done wrong ? Would really really appreciate your advice?
do the same thing with 1000, 2000, 3000 grit sand paper instead. though if you are just cutting leather, you should really ever need a hone unless your blade came dull.
Great tips! I always wonder how to sharpen my French edger. Thank you for posting this!

подскажите ,какая максимальная ширина инструмента возможна?
Изготовитель инструмента определяет размер. Я видел максимальный размер 2см
How do you sharpen it with sand paper?
it's same lay sand paper on glass or marble
that is honing not really sharpening
