    The key I’ve found (I have a 60 horse Case International with a Howard slasher) is to use really low gear ratio. Either first or second gear in low ratio (out of four) and first gear in high ratio (also out of four)
    If you are geared too high it will choke and stall the tractor as the clutch in the slasher will just not want to go. It’s slow going but it does work.
    Another way is wait until winter when grass loses its bulk and will dry out. Otherwise it’s a jungle. 5 or 6 foot grass with green panic and laced with lantana is always a challenge.

    Thanks, they're Macadamia trees.
    Its similar here, within a 40mile radius here is most of Australias Macadamia plantations and Australia has the largest number of them in the world.
    Around 800 orchards just in the local area.

    THANKS, ITS INTERESTING TO WATCH AND SEE HOW THIS WORKS. I LIVE OUT IN THE STICKS AND CANT FIND ANYONE TO MOW MY LONG GRASS, MAYBE THEY DONT WANT TO DO IT NOW BECAUSE SOME OF IT IS AS LONG AS YOUR GRASS. SO I THINK IM GOING TO TRY AND FIND WHAT IS CALLED A SLASHER WHO HAS A TRACTOR, THEN HE MAY WANT TO TACKLE MY LONG GRASS.

    Hi Harry, depends what sort of use its going to get, just for light to moderate slashing the cheap Chinese made ones do ok but if you have alot of area to slash or do very long grass like in the vid you need a more heavy duty one.
    Donnelly like mine aren;t made anymore but the Superior slashers are pretty good.

    Ive just pulled the radiator out of my old Belarus 562 to repair a leak in the bottom of it more than likely caused by the failure to comply with the slow and steady rule. my ground is steep and rough but. your Same's the same sort of thing as my Belasaurus. On the back is a razorback that gets a lot of hammering as theres a lot of basalt outcrops, and rock etc but it does a good job. its in its 8th year and I slash 100 acres 3 or 4 times a year, depending. Next winter it''ll maybe get new blades for the first time. Your machine does a nice job, cheers.

      truckeemick thanks, the old Sames are air cooled so no radiator to worry about but still need to keep the cooling fan clear.
      Luckily not many rocks in there, never broke a blade on that one but have on other farms though.

    What variety’s did you have planted on the farm? What did best? 816/849/246/A38/A203??? 741 take along time to flower I have herd.

    • @BoostedVW
      @BoostedVW  4 года назад

      The farm was about 90% A4 and every 5th row was a Hawaiian variety for cross pollination, they were 344, 246, 741 and 849.
      A4 gave great crack out but were really inconsistent, I didn’t mind the 741, they’re only small nut and drop early but always had a good crop.
      New owner of the farm has bulldozed a most of them and is putting in a203 but I’ve not had anything to do with that variety before.

      BoostedVW A4 only good for first few years in sacrificial row. Same with A203

    • @BoostedVW
      @BoostedVW  4 года назад

      @@jarrodadams9132 depends how they are looked after, the oldest there were 21 years old when the farm was sold in 2015 and were still producing well with excellent crack out, we used to do selective limb removal with them to keep them going well, they’re also more demanding for fertiliser than others

    • @jarrodadams9132
      @jarrodadams9132 4 года назад

      BoostedVW thanks for that. How much extra fertiliser would you recommend? Thinking of planting some for a sacrificial row down the Center of other rows. The A203 flower young, 2yrs or so.

      @@jarrodadams9132 it’s been over 5 Years since that farm was sold but from memory it was around 800g a tree depending on fertiliser

    That tractor needs a flail mower to tackle those conditions.

      runner4life1984 we've got one and it really doesn't cut well through setaria and kikuyu grass, the runners just wind up around the drum

    Why don't you pump water to the base of the trees to save next years crop?
