    Thank you so much Matt. Your advice has helped me go from struggling to get 55 pushups and 70 sit ups to 80 pushups and over 80sit ups. I have now got a 300 or score twice in AIT and will be graduating with the ARMY Achievement award. Thank you so much! GREATNESS!!

  • @NateD006
    @NateD006 3 года назад +24

    For those of you that say the situps hurt your lower back and thighs (this was the case for me for my first 5 years). I started doing traditional deadlifts in the gym (be very careful with your form, they can be very dangerous so start with very light weight). The increased strength in my lower back, glutes and hamstrings added 20 situps to my score and situps started to feel like a more natural movement. If you're at a loss for ideas give it a try.

    Here is a lesson about the importance of "specificity of training". I have been a power-builder for about 5 years now and I am squatting and deadlifting above the 400s and rack pulling 635lb, I can only do 25 push ups in a row and 12 sit ups before gassing out and cramping up. This is because I have not done sit ups and push ups since high school (a decade ago) and my body is not used to them at all. Since I finally decided to join the army a week ago, I've been improving on all fronts. My point is gym strength does not translate into endurance movements like push-ups, sit-ups and mile runs. Which is fucked up and so unfair.

      @Savannah Ferretti Actually it is pretty unfair. The current test only predicted about 40% combat readiness, which is why the Army is instituting a new pt test. One that focuses on things like dead lifts, power throws, etc.

    • @barackobama5697
      @barackobama5697 4 года назад

      This will age well. The army has a new test now which involves power movements needed in combat.

    Maxed the sit up event for 29 years and over 100+ tests. Prep consisted of 3 sets of 30 situps on 45 degree incline board with bent knees, 30 to 60 seconds rest between sets. Using elbows & shoulders to create momentum is on point. There is also the aspect of contracting your back to maintain speed to max an create momentum with a bit of bounce off bottom.

    The first 2 exercises help...A LOT! I do the bottom half of the situp to failure/exhaustion. Wait 10 seconds and then do the top half of the situp to failure/exhaustion. I do each about 4-5 times and I move to flutter kicks and crunches. I also do leg raises. It's going to burn but remember, it's all mental; push!

    I've been watching your videos for a while, and I swore in at MEPS for the Marine Corps on Monday. The liaison for the USMC made me and the other guy do situps and pullups before having us come back for the interview/drilling and I was only able to do 29 situps. I knock the pullups out of the park but I knew before i got there that I was extremely weak when it came to situps. I tried like hell several times but couldn't get all the way back up, and he finally just stopped the clock. It's now Sunday, almost a week later, and I still feel it in my stomach. It doesn't hurt but it's like, weak or something. All that to say I really appreciate this video and know I have a lot of work to do on this area before I ship out. I'm confident in my progress in every other area of PT but I suck at situps lol so thank you.

      You will have 1-2 weeks in what is known as reception and you will have nothing to do but sit ups and push ups, make some friends and make it a daily routine.
      When in basic you will do a 1.1.1 test, super easy don't sweat it. 1st week is hell and you will have no free time.
      After that week you will have alot of time to do sit ups and work out.
      You have 3 tests and only the last one counts and even then you only need 50 points to pass instead of 60, but don't go for 50, try to max.
      I failed my frist apft but passed the next 2 with 300+.
      The new army test will make these tips obsolete but just incase your the last cycle to take the old apft

    He mentioned P90X. I did that program for only one month and my PT score was the highest I’ve ever Had. This ab workout is awesome! But if you’re the type of person who has issue with motivation alone, P90x is a great way to workout because you have someone telling you what to do. In my personal opinion.

    Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach Jeff Nichols disagrees....Strongly. The best way to increase situps is not to do more situps. IT's to sprint. Often and violently

      @@tobyngarcia_polk4086 pretty good. I've improved alot, increased my Situps by 25 ( up to 40) but still got a ways to go. I do this workout about twice a week doing each exercise 2-3 sets

    • @brandonbenoit6828
      @brandonbenoit6828 6 лет назад

      How many do you do each set if you don't mind me asking.
      Between the push up circuit he did a video on and this I think I'll be able to build a plan where I alternate muscle failure days and running days. Right now all I'm doing is sit-ups and this ten minute core exercise kind of circuit that helps build up your core for running.
      But if I do this to improve my sit ups I can do this on the muscle failure days and just do the core exercises for running before and/or after I actually run.
      Hopefully trying all these different exercises out and building the outline of the workout plan is the hardest part. Knowing which exercises work for what you're trying to do and just increasing the intensity and the challenge until you reach your goal. That's going to be the fun part. Minus being sore pretty much all the time.

    • @CrimsonSp33d
      @CrimsonSp33d 6 лет назад

      @@brandonbenoit6828 about 20-25. I do something similar to your plan alternating days with this sit up routine and his push up routine but I'm finally about to start hitting the gym so I can build up my strength to do pull-ups again. I'm running Mon, Wed, Fri. My shins are still too weak/ still too fat to be running every day but I jog 2 miles on Mon and Fri, with 30-60s on Wed. If you can do pull-ups I would say you don't necessarily need a gym, I just need some weights to build up my back muscles again. Regardless of where you're at man as long as you're getting after it you'll improve!
