He spoke a word about those one-room schoolhouses. My dad was taught in one. He left in 8th grade because back in the 30s, boys quit early to work on the family farm. He learned to read, write, and do math well enough that he later became a pattern maker in NYC, responsible for calculating and ordering thousands of yards of fabrics, trims, etc. He explained long division to me in a way that I finally got it in one go after some scary weeks of falling behind in class. He was taught geography and Latin. To set the context, his school was in Clarendon County, one of the defendants in Brown v. Board of Education. His sisters stayed in school and went to college. People say their kid can't read because of racism. News flash. Your kids are failing because of degraded culture and negligent parenting. Period. But people are waking up. I believe that's why activists are getting more nutty. The rational ones dropped out when Obama got in. You're now left with paid mouthpieces who keep up the game so they can pay their mortgages in white middle class enclaves, and depressed child-people who depend on adrenaline hits of rage to balance their brain chemistry. With the economic challenges people are facing now, no one cares about any of them anymore, and they know it.

That was so well put about the people living on adrenaline rushes too. Your father’s story sounds fascinating, you should write about it for others to read.
Jilly, That's awesome to read about your Dad & his strong work ethic. He obviously wasn't goofing around in school but truly learned something! The 30's was a VERY difficult time. My Dad was born in 1924 and lived thru that period too. Nowadays - especially in the pathetic inner city schools - most kids don't even have fathers to hold them accountable. It's really sad. The boys just grow up wild. The girls too! And then these kids will make another generation of fatherless babies. Unless Planned Parenthood (encouraging them with, "just enjoy your sexuality... it's only natural") gets ahold of them to exterminate their unborn baby at the local abortion mill (PP makes MUCHO moolah from these "$service$"). "Yes young lady, we just want to H-E-L-L-L-P you" ...what BS!

Thank you, Chad. The quiet voices of the intelligent have long been suppressed by the louder voices of the ignorant "offended." But you give us hope...
Pre-1960s, on the south side of Chicago alone, there existed the following: Two hospitals (Provident and Ida Mae Scott), Black-owned and operated Doctors offices, Black-owned and operated Dental offices, Black-owned and operated At least one bank, Black-owned and operated An insurance company, Black-owned and operated Two mini-supermarkets, Black-owned and operated TV (television) repair shops, Black-owned and operated (some made house calls) Two taxi-cab companies, Black-owned and operated (The taxis were called "Jitneys.") Live poultry shops, Black-owned and operated Mom-and-Pop stores, Black-owned and operated Two-parent families Rare (VERY rare) divorce NO GUN VIOLENCE So, what happened? Why is the south side of Chicago, today, called a "war zone?" This claim that JUST BECAUSE Black folks are located in a certain area, a productive community arises, is just bull. The REASON for the above-listed successes is VALUES, and the Booker T. Washington teachings. I used to hear the name "Booker T." come out of the mouth of my dad and other parents all the time. I was raised, during the 1950s, in that productive, south side of Chicago Black, stable, values-oriented community. When the 1960s hit, all hell broke loose in America, for reasons that are documented in Uncle Tom II. In my book, Uncle Tom's Uncle, Second Edition, I talk about "SHVs," i.e., Strong High Values. It is those SHVs that caused that success, NOT the mere congregating of Black folks in one area. Read my FREE book at Academia.edu. It is 275 pages long with 73 illustrations. Six of the eight chapters offer experiential testimony, NOT "theories" about how SHVs can be applied to obtain balance, harmony, peace, stability AND PROSPERITY in the Black community. Again, free book. You can read it at Academia.edu or download it from there as a .pdf: www.academia.edu/80214543/Uncle_Toms_Uncle_Second_Edition No more excuses, Black folks. To young Black folks: GET IT DONE!! Peace, RDC
@ronchism6435 Those inner-city areas started to get flooded with backwood bumpkins from places like Mississippi, Bama, Louisiana, and the Caribbean. Also, the “New Great Migration” started in 1970 to states in the South like Texas, Georgia, NC, and the DMV. In a lot of cases it’s usually the productive people that move first. This is why today the black middle-class is largely concentrated in the South…which is the most integrated region of the country.
@@darrickbrisco5016 Oh, yes, I experienced that. When it got really hot, in the summer, there were like four options: Sleep on the back porch Sleep in the back yard Go to Washington Park and sleep there And the BEST one was to drive over to the Lake and sleep right there at the beach. THAT was great!! Sometimes, a number of parents on the block would plan to go to the beach together. We kids would enjoy swimming in Lake Michigan over in the Hyde Park area of Chicago. Then, when it got late, we'd stay at the beach and sleep overnight. Many years ago, I asked somebody, "Black folks still sleep on the Lake?" and the brother answered, "Naw, man. If you sleep over at the Lake, you might wake up DEAD." I don't like to simplify things. I'm aware of a lot of factors: decimation of the industrial base, which eventually screwed White males also, and you can go to Philadelphia and see them dudes on the streets, spaced out on drugs. Black males in Chicago had great options for employment in suburban factories, making good money and being able to raise families with only ONE income. But, I STILL don't accept excuses. VALUES. I was a very poor student, both in elementary school and high school, barely graduating. But my dad had been a construction carpenter, a bartender, an undefeated boxer. I saw him, day in and day out, get up, make breakfast for me and my brother [he raised us alone], go to work ALL day, come back, make dinner. Back then, parents had a saying: "It's my job to work, and it's my kids' job to PLAY." That was universal, including in the White community. Watching my dad had a HUGE impression on me. When I graduated from high school, I VOWED to improve myself. He had taught us, "You JUST as good as the White man--or BETTER!" That was a common teaching of damn near all Black parents. After high school, I BUSTED MY ASS. I went to Junior college and made up my academic deficiencies by RE-TAKING certain courses I'd blew in high school. In time, I was an engineering student at the University of Illinois, TUTORING students in high-level math, physics, and engineering courses. Values count BIG time. So, when I hear young people blaming everything under the sun on White folks, that sh*t burns my ass. That list I made, in my previous post here, was all achieved DURING SEGREGATION. Our people actually did BETTER. Check out this cut I took from a Breafast Club interview of Dr. Claud Anderson. It's only 1 minute. Notice that he says that our people had GREAT economic power all over the country. ruclips.net/video/7XrXGWdcask/видео.html And here's a 2-minute cut of the then Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Sinclair Weeks, back in 1953, talking about the great economic power of the Black community then: ruclips.net/video/he0V9PNf_Rs/видео.html I ain't Christian. I'm an Ahmadi Muslim. But!! I witnessed, back in the day, the awesome power and influence of Christianity within the Black community. VALUES were taught, very strongly, by Black preachers. And you heard Bible stuff from your parents and the parents on the block. It SHAPED us. For real. Personally, I have no idea how those times can be duplicated. But there are some Black women at certain RUclips channels that are now telling certain.....ahem.....TRUTHS that might wake some folks up. It's a good sign.
Well done Sir ! It is time and has been for a long time for PBS to be self supporting , let them sink or swim on their programming . And not the American taxpayer dollar . All of their programs from Front Line to the Evening News to the children's shows are for their viewers on the left .
Uncle Tom II has affirmed what I've been struggling with most of my life. It has given me perspective. Things that I was afraid to believe has been proven. My trust is in God alone and not man because it seems that whatever we put our hands on, it's a chance we will corrupt to pose a narrative. This documentary scream to me to stop putting man on a pedestal.
ElainesDomain: Or so many other blacks throughout history or even the past 50 years that never get mentioned by PBS loving liberals. All you ever hear about is Martin Luther King Jr. The tons of other blacks that have brought so much to our country are ignored. One of my most admired men in this country is George Washington Carver. Know why PBS will never mention (if they ever do mention him), is that he was a Bible believeing Christian man who had a very strong relationship with God. I have two Pinterest boards with blacks in our modern times that are major achievers. Young people will never hear about them. Liberals want successful blacks to remain in the dark.
That’s what I don’t understand about wokeness - instead of trying to heal and get past the racial divide - it actually promotes segregation and encourages everyone to see through the lens of race. It’s quite shocking how backwards their thinking is ..

Uncle Tom 2, twice.....which I find to be an eye opening documentary on American History from black history...because it makes me retrace and question what I have learned and been taught. In either case, amazing and thank you
Uncle Tom was fantastic. I can't wait for Uncle Tom 2. I'm a big fan and it educated me about the truth. Thank you Chad for being bold and courageous. Larry Elders is a genius for this documentary.
God bless you Chad, I'm 65 and my father taught this to us kids when reality did not match what we were seeing in Hollywood, the news and from political leaders. Thank you.
Some of the black folks have traded God for government. As soon as they get back to God and let go of government, they will thrive. We are ALL Gods children! government will never be the answer to our problems.
I was about 8. My stepfather said, as my mother was taking me to a political event, that Jackson and King used to run women, and he wanted nothing to do with them. His decision to choose what was right versus what was black really stuck in my head and shaped my life to my success and passion for Jesus Christ. Tell your kids the truth when they are kids because the world will definitely tell them lies without regard for their age.
Thank you for speaking the truth. It's disgusting what was done to the African American community under the guise of HELP. You and Thomas Sowell are voices of truth. Yes race has become a religion.
I am a black entrepreneur and almost 70 years old now.... Other groups of people of color i.e.;, Asians, Africans Latinos, etc. are progressing in this country.. I ask this question to African Americans that are still embracing this narrative of racial prejudice as a Hallmark of living in this country. If other people of color are making it here then it confirms that it is not about color, so if it's not about color then what is it? I leave it to them to answer that question... PS I love the Uncle Tom series very thought-provoking.
Great review. I think I'd be squirming in my chair if I had to watch PBS for the exact reasons Mr Jackson points out here. It's obvious when they're are conflating issues like that and almost trying to cement some superficial separation.
Excellent video! Thank you for dissecting this PBS video. I've been questioning PBS and Louis Gates videos. They definitely are well done but I felt they had a specific agenda.
He gives the government the credit for what blacks earned and worked for. Blacks today are broken and see the government as necessary an integral part of their ability to succeed. Loved the movie unbelievable, who am I to say the blacks today are broken? A citizen, I have eyes, ears and I will NOT ignore fellow Americans that are struggling to such a degree.
I have family members that listen to NPR and I hate it . It's all about dividing us but with slow , soft spoken people. Therefore, its relaxing but still divisive and no sudden movements from the narrator so it must be ok
Right on! I listened to NPR religiously during the years I lived in Portland Oregon. Even after 2016 and I had voted for D. Trump, I continued listening. The dial in my car radio was still glued to NPR. They are so soothing and relaxing! They make you feel oh so intellectual and sophisticated. One day it dawned on me just how poisonous they are. I still remember the day I reached over and switched the radio station to a Fox affiliate. I was not satisfied there either but felt a little more aligned to my newfound political direction. Unfortunately, I haven't found another station with the high level of quality of NPR on the Right. There are many great podcasts, but nothing like NPR with all that variety of programming on the same station. But I can no longer listen to NPR without feeling a little sick to my stomach! Just can't go back!

Very interesting! When watching Uncle Tom II, I was intrigued how the narrator described the source of vintage footage in particular shots and even some facts about the life of the person who filmed the footage. It is something you do not see in other documentaries. I look forward to watching Making Black America, but I doubt that Prof. Gates will deign to delve into the sources of his footage. Also striking in the trailer is how Gates implicitly attributes the entrepreneurial spirit of the Black Wall Street era to Du Bois and the NAACP! Unfortunately this seems to be a common belief among Black people in USA today. However one person in the trailer gets something right: disintegration of institutions has contributed to the malaise in many Black communities. The question is which institutions.
Excellent post. Do you have an opinion one way or the other as to which institution or thought process has that has led to the erosion of the family and culture in black America? Full disclosure, I am a 53 year old white man from Georgia. I consider myself an amateur historian and believe history is history and all peoples contribute. The older I get and the more I depth I look into our American history I am shocked and saddened by some things I find but one of the true high-water marks that I see is the growth of black Americans from slavery to the civil rights era. The Buffalo Soldiers, the Harlem Hellfighters, Madam C.J. Walker, Brooker T. Washington, the Tuskegee Air Men, the 555th Parachute Regiment, the first black men to serve as MP's, and all the unnamed doctors and lawyers and teachers and farmers and every single profession you can name. They all helped this nation grow into something truly special. And it breaks my heart to see this current generation not understand the work and sacrifice it took to move forward. Now we who understand have to watch most of their work spoil on the vine. I have no clue how to right the current course, but I know citizens, black and white and every other shade you can imagine, will not give up without a fight. And I will proudly stand with them, to fight the good fight. I apologize for rambling, and waxing poetic, but that happens from time to time. Thank you, and have a great day.
After watching Uncle Tom i & ii, it became clear that I've been lied to growing up. Not that my friends and family are not caring. I am sure they thought they were speaking the truth. These films definitely opened my eyes.
Mr. Jackson I certainly enjoyed this video with your narrating. It's forces one to remain ignorant or embrace the truth. I've been black for 64 years, and I hate the lies narrative that we followers and we no it's a lie.
Wow, I wish that I had found this channel sooner than I just have. I am from Alabama and grew up on Booker T. Washington. Your analysis proves a conversation that I had with a friend weeks ago. They have tried many times to erase Washington's accomplishments. The powers that be will continue to attempt to remove Washington from our memory. Dubois wasn't what the modern black community thinks that he was.
We all have to support Mr. Jackson as Americans. I can afford it and am glad to pay. Surely his work can be picked up by a traditional organization? This needs to be available for our hard-pressed younger generations.
Thank you. Over the years, I have often been perplexed by historical nostalgia and history in the present and how it sorts out the juxtaposition of naration and images of the past. This is a valuable companion guide for the history book.
I did not see this coming, but in hindsight I should have. The black and white progressive liberal via PBS film felt threatened by the success of uncle Tom 1 and soon to be 2 and had to counter it to keep things as is.
The lie is so dangerous and unethical. The “obsession” is true. You can teach self love and confidence without the lies. The truth is hard and good both can be true.
The easiest lie to believe is the one you most wish were true. The hardest truth to believe is the one you most wish were a lie. Wishful thinking on the left (and right) have destroyed millions of lives. Truth and love... these are what set us free.
I am so happy that the diversity of of ideology within people of color throughout the world which includes American,Asian ,African ,and islanders can be found in the dichotomy of black thought within United States the media has always picked and shaped a part of that as they choose it is up to me to know or to real life about the shading covering not right mind in the lie being promoted
Ty Mr Jackson..you are a good fruit..there's so much deception in the world & the Bible tells us who it comes from...ty for speaking the truth..may Jesus continue to bless you in all you do...Godspeed sir!

Chad O. Jackson's quote @14:55 "Whenever you have something to be proud of, people have less of a chance of controlling you" has such a powerful meaning. The more you understand yourself and what you believe in, your mind will allow you to control your future. Those who seek control and power need the weak and desperate in order to rise. Which makes the power seekers the desperate ones as well.
Wow! That's some very revealing words you just said. I belive also this is why they have to get black people and Americans as a whole to break away and or hate the very foundations of America and American ideals. This is ultimately a war on the American ideal and a war in the minds of Americans.
Yeah, you pay attention to yourself and not other's. Seems pretty simple.

Chad, you’re a monster of reason. Love you, man.

@@h.boylen6334 Thank you, but honestly, people like my dad were the norm, not the exception. There was no one there saying, since your friend's dad was lynched, you can go off the rails and be a violent loser. That lynching happened, and the murdered man's son became a successful entrepreneur. Success was demanded of everyone. And my dad was called Boy and everything else. He made it because no one was going to put up with anything else.
@@MizJilly I’m sorry, I meant I thought it was intriguing that he went to 8th grade in a one room schoolhouse and then made it to NY to rise as a pattern maker. Give me a break
Pre-1960s, on the south side of Chicago alone, there existed the following:
Two hospitals (Provident and Ida Mae Scott), Black-owned and operated
Doctors offices, Black-owned and operated
Dental offices, Black-owned and operated
At least one bank, Black-owned and operated
An insurance company, Black-owned and operated
Two mini-supermarkets, Black-owned and operated
TV (television) repair shops, Black-owned and operated (some made house calls)
Two taxi-cab companies, Black-owned and operated (The taxis were called "Jitneys.")
Live poultry shops, Black-owned and operated
Mom-and-Pop stores, Black-owned and operated
Two-parent families
Rare (VERY rare) divorce
NO GUN VIOLENCE
So, what happened? Why is the south side of Chicago, today, called a "war zone?"
This claim that JUST BECAUSE Black folks are located in a certain area, a productive community arises, is just bull.
You can read it at Academia.edu or download it from there as a .pdf:

Agreed my dad said u could sleep in the park overnight on the south side in the 60s and nobody bothered you
@@ronchism6435 thanks
@ronchism6435
Those inner-city areas started to get flooded with backwood bumpkins from places like Mississippi, Bama, Louisiana, and the Caribbean.
When it got really hot, in the summer, there were like four options:
Sleep on the back porch
Sleep in the back yard
Go to Washington Park and sleep there
And the BEST one was to drive over to the Lake and sleep right there at the beach.
If you sleep over at the Lake, you might wake up DEAD."
I don't like to simplify things.
Notice that he says that our people had GREAT economic power all over the country.
ruclips.net/video/7XrXGWdcask/видео.html
And here's a 2-minute cut of the then Secretary of the Department of Commerce, Mr. Sinclair Weeks, back in 1953, talking about the great economic power of the Black community then:
ruclips.net/video/he0V9PNf_Rs/видео.html
I ain't Christian.

PBS. Taxpayer funded liberalism. These people never heard of Frederick Douglas or Booker T Washington or Thomas Sowell.
I was about 8. My stepfather said, as my mother was taking me to a political event, that Jackson and King used to run women, and he wanted nothing to do with them. His decision to choose what was right versus what was black really stuck in my head and shaped my life to my success and passion for Jesus Christ.

Wow, I wish that I had found this channel sooner than I just have. I am from Alabama and grew up on Booker T. Washington. Your analysis proves a conversation that I had with a friend weeks ago.
