    You calling him a greedy billionaire, y'all do know that he has $64 billion but choose to live in a $7 million home with his family right? Dude drives a $30,000 car. Right when Facebook first started it was making around $20-$30 mil per year, he got offered from companies paying $1 billion and more but he wouldn't sale because it was never about the money, even his partners left him because he wouldn't sell it at a price. It was never about the money for him, why y'all think a billionaire live in $7 mil home???????

    • @mrgregnugent
      @mrgregnugent 7 лет назад +1

      A purpose cause is fine. And you're right happiness is not determined by how much money you have. I just question his cause, the unrealistic notion that you can give people a global wage demonstrates a profound lack of understanding of human nature. People derive satisfaction from working and that contributes to their dignity.

    • @sanchocabatay
      @sanchocabatay 7 лет назад +1

      i agree with that. he seems not to understand the dignity of work, people's satisfaction got from it, and more of human nature. He's idealism though is better than not caring for this world at all.

    • @sanchocabatay
      @sanchocabatay 7 лет назад

      Nikusuke Doguro it does not contradict, however, the reality is that, people work to provide for his needs and not only do what he wants. Here comes the contrary part, not contradictory, basic income is an ideal which will remain an ideal since there are humans who are more industrious and persistent than others. there are people who would strive more and work harder than others... but we should take note also, i do not support corporate greed which made a lot of people richer at the expense of the poor, however, people have varying levels of hard work to give them equal compensation... if then is the case, that everyone should receive the same even others work harder than the others, the value of work is diminished.

    When a man becomes successful through his hard work and innovative mindset, the first thing he will attract is not respect, but jealousy and bias. More importantly, those feeling jealous are usually mediocre and very secular. This is the nature of human beings.
    Deng Xiaoping once said: "A good cat is not a black cat or a white cat. A good cat is a cat that catches mice". While many people, as I see, comment that "he is a hypocrite", "he is communist" and enjoy the internet argument, Mark is using his influence, his power, and his passion to help as many as people in need, if not all. Whether you agree or not agree others' words, it is inappropriate to disrespect them. I think this is what we learned from our life's first class. Because of difference in people's ideas, people's specializations and the life paths they choose, the world can be so diverse and beautiful.
    In addition, I think many people are seeing communism or socialism with so intense negative attitude. Whether communism or capitalism, authoritarianism or democracy, those political systems are not something absolute; they are the cornerstones on which different adaptive laws, modified plans are built and implemented. As long as that system works for that country, it is great. I am a high school student coming from China. Planning to study in the US college and being an incoming freshman, I have experienced both the Chinese and American educations, and devoted myself to learning these two countries' similarities and differences. The major reason that communism and authoritarianism can work so well in China is that the nation is always populous since its civilization began. Everyone has "great idea" and extremely try to persuade the government to listen to him. That is great, however, when millions of ideas are voiced out together, things will mess up. Tang dynasty is also under authoritarianism. Communism is somehow being seen as idealistic, but it is really for workers and common people. Nearly everyone in China has the comfortable living environment, decent education opportunity and the right to pursue his or her aspiration. Literally saying, the time China began its development is 1949, while the US has progressed and thrived for hundreds of years since its independence. We are now both two leading superpower countries in the world. Therefore, different approaches to managing different country can always be realized. It is like two different types of personalities. China and most Chinese are introverts. We like burying ourselves into hard work as long as we find a path to take, and only until we achieve some great accomplishments, we don't often say much or show our progress to others. On the other hand, the US and American, I think, are more extrovert. They like to together discuss, then find a solution, work, and share progress or achievements with the world. We could not say that the introvert is not as good as the extrovert. Both have purposes: pursuing their goals and being better. And when communism meets capitalism, the eastern meets the western, there is an appealing love story to bloom up.
    Finally, please respect and learn from those who are more powerful than you, and be sympathetic to those who are poorer, less capable than you. And you will grow to better. ^_^

    And some say he stole ideas, have you ever considered the fact that whoever you think he stole the idea from might not have utilized it as much as he has done, then we won't be talking about any of them today. Quit being negative and receive sense.

    "We should have a society that measures progress not just by economic metrics like GDP, but by how many of us have a role we find meaningful."
    Mark hits straight right to the core of our today's Society problems. not just Society, but it's for the future of Humanity, Mankind, and Civilization. if we really want to make a *real Progress*, then what he said here (and as well about "Universal Basic Income") might be the most important thing for all of us to pay attention seriously, and together find the alternative solutions to our current Capitalism system, & make it work.

    • @ikerabadia4442
      @ikerabadia4442 6 лет назад

      *ignoring that people choose jobs meaningfully to them, so capitalism by itself solves that problem. The real problem is government preventing job creation.

    • @TheGoodChap
      @TheGoodChap 6 лет назад

      *ignoring that the market chooses what jobs it creates and is under no obligation to produce good jobs, if they're not interested in offering full time positions, preferring to offer part time or minimum wage, then that's what most people end up doing even if they really want to do something else. And capitalism doesn't really have much to do with it, capitalism is mainly the idea that any single person can own all of the property and equipment used to manufacture goods and reap the benefits of that industry.
      And it's strange people think the government prevents job creation considering how much they prop business up. We wouldn't have a technological industry at ALL if it weren't for the government doing all the heavy lifting building PCB's serial ports, transistors, early CPUs with instructions, memory, various forms of solid memory, etc. all for nuclear weapons targeting which cost probably billions of dollars in research and development, all of the success they dumped on the private industry, who didn't have to spend anything on it and just turned around and started finding consumer goods they could make using that technology. Corporations are also hugely propped up by government subsidies like the pharmaceutical industry (again, most of their R&D is paid for by the government) or health care industry, auto industry, all the housing from the 50's was subsidized by the government, so land developers made out like bandits etc.
      and a big problem right now is that the banks were bailed out by the government, essentially giving them a massive stimulus package to invest to get the economy going and they've been too scared to use any of it. They're supposed to be investing the billions of dollars we gave them, but are being extremely careful about it because they are still scared of what they did in 08.

      ct n -- so because he is a philanthropist, we should turn a blind eye to the questionable methods he used to obtain his massive wealth? If I make millions through some type of con artist scheme, will you see me as a good person if I donate half of it to poor kids? People like you are so gullible and Gate and Zuckerberg know that.

    I don't understand all this hate from you guys, and accusing him of communism? Just for talking about basic income?
    Here is the thing, innovation always destroyed a lot of jobs but usually it created more somewhere also, or this is what the majority of economists think. But innovation has never happened at this rate before in history and it is not going to destroy only manual job but also high skilled jobs, such as doctors or software developers and retrain those workers could be a very expensive and long program and maybe at the time you finish your training that job could be no longer there as a new wave of innovation cancelled it.
    So in my opinion there are 2 problems
    1) Worker are even more afraid to lose their jobs, and they will fight hard for keep them and this can slow down technology adoption, example taxi drivers against uber or the coal miners. Coal energy is a very old technology and you remember Trump, during election campaign, vowed to protect these jobs, what that means? it means that in a way or in another it will subsidize those jobs or if you prefer transfer government money to them.
    This is not economically efficient and it slow down innovation
    2) Less workers means less consumers so less people who can afford to buy new services and goods and we can have a catch 22 situation, innovation could bring new services and goods but there will be no one to buy it, this could lead to, again, slow down innovation or to more inequality, few people own the know-how to deliver some services and they are also the ones that can afford them, and rest will be keep out from the benefit of new technologies.
    Basic income could be a way to overcome those problems, it has some risks as well and there might be better solutions, i do not know that, all I believe is to find a way to balance jobs, humans and fast pace innovation will be the challenge for the next decades.

      Alessandro Silvestrin If robots do 100% of all jobs everything will be free. But the government needs to control that.

    • @alessandrosilvestrin4159
      @alessandrosilvestrin4159 7 лет назад

      Hi 2900405 you raise a good topic,even if will take a lot replace 100% of the job, we are going in that direction
      First of let me correct on "everything will be free", nothing is free and nothing will ever be free, that`s why the cost of something is all the thing you could have but you don`t because you chose to have that particular thing, good or service, because resources are limited. Even if robots would do 100% of all job the resources to build a toaster, for example, time, energy, raw materials can`t be used to build, i don`t know, a mixer. That`s raise a lot of questions like how we are going to chose what to produce or how we are going to distribute the goods? And who`s going to decide? You assuming the Government will do that but we do not know as we do not know at this stage who will own those robots.
      My guess is, if we do not tackle this challenge, few corporations are going to own production plants and knowledge to run them and they will get the most benefits from technology and the rest will get their basic need fulfilled so they will be kept quite, maybe with a kind of basic income system.
      Maybe is going to be an oligarchy of the nerds, or an AI kingdom who knows...

      Alessandro Silvestrin Robots and machines will be bought by governments or the government if there will be a new world order and everyone will live in abundance because there are enough ressources but everything is limited because of capitalism

    • @karepanman2770
      @karepanman2770 7 лет назад +2

      Alessandro Silvestrin I think UBI just means you get enough not to starve or be homeless. Some goods will still be limited, and there will still be tasks for humans. There will still be luxury goods. In a world of automation, hand made goods will most likely not be affordable to someone on a basic income. But anyone would have the opportunity to study and seek work and try to fulfill their dreams. Not everyone will succeed, but at least one would not need to fear poverty as much.

    19 June 2017
    I use my Wall to promote human rights, including right to abortion on demand and same-sex marriage, issues involving police corruption, the need for solar panels and flood control, and religion (I am an atheist) and 12 other points Africans should be discussing on their Walls.
    I use no "abusive language", I approached all topics as would a university academic. I started getting a lot of Friend Requests from fellow Africans and black Americans. This was great. And for over 200 acceptance of Friends, with posting my 17 points, people were giving me t-ups and love emoticons. I got no complaints. Now I'm sure--we're dealing with Nigerian Muslims and Christians--upon the first sight of LGBT, they Unfriended or Blocked me. But no one informed me of their displeasure of what I wrote. Not one.
    And then suddenly something happened. Facebook stepped in with me having to decipher their alphanumeric code. I did. I protested, they relented for about 50 posts to those who requested Friendship, then Facebook reimposed their alphanumeric game. Even though this game takes some time, I got used to it, but then Facebook once again preventing me from posting anything on my new friend's Walls.
    Then I created a separate community page and, on the first comment field of my new friend's Timeline, I directed them to my new page. Facebook discovered that, and prevented me from posting anything even in my new friend's comment thread.
    So then I started using Message to direct them to my new page. And finally Facebook blocked me from that. They warned, and I quote: "A security check is required to proceed". So from that point on, I could not post anything anywhere on any of my Friend's Timeline or Msg. I stopped because I feared that Facebook would take down my wall. As it would be called in the Soviet Union--I would become a nonperson.
    This is a violation of what I thought were my rights of freedom of intellectual expression, but it seems that Facebook is a private corporation and they can violate this most fundamental of human right with complete impunity. To fight Facebook in a court of law would require money that only a very wealthy person could afford.
    This needs to be discussed on RUclips, how Facebook vigorously prevents human rights activists from organising and communicating with one another on issues that directly affect our lives.

    Wouldn't a basic income create a lot of inflation?

    • @cybersphere
      @cybersphere 7 лет назад +14

      Some, but I doubt it would be significant. For the very wealthy, the UBI would be chump change. They're not going to buy another property with it. But for the poor, it will mean that they will have the money they need to cover their basic needs. Most of the UBI income will be spent into the local economy, boosting business revenues and increasing hiring.

    • @newtles7626

      Its an interesting idea but the only way I would even consider it is if all other forms of welfare were done away with.

    • @cybersphere
      @cybersphere 7 лет назад +8

      That's one of the selling points of UBI. It's unconditional, which means everyone gets it and we don't need an expensive bureaucracy designed to means test and work test individuals to determine eligibility. Rather than paying a bunch of bureaucrats, we pay individuals and families directly. Families know what they need money for much better than government ever could. By giving people this safety net, they will become more entrepreneurial because they won't be afraid to fail.

      cybersphere, where would the UBI money come from? And wouldn't there be a tendency for people NOT to want to work anymore, since they don't need to? And if more and more people stop working (thereby generating less taxes for UBI), again, where will this money come from? And do you know of any country as of now that has successfully implemented this? I get pretty scared when i hear such "glowing" ideas and promises, because I'm reminded of Venezuela, and Cuba...which ultimately did not work out...
