Great ending! And Pamplona is a lovely city. José was also my guide through the city last year, a great guide.

Thank you. Yes, I love Pamplona, it’s such a vibrant city. That’s cool to hear José was your guide too, he knows so much about his home town and is so helpful.

Loved all your Camino Baztan vids. Very moving when you talked about the hard parts and the sense of accomplishment. Thank you for adding that. Thank you for sharing the emotional part of your arrival into Pamplona. I will be doing my first camino...Camino Frances...next spring and this almost made me reconsider my starting point. Best to you!

What a lovely comment to leave, thank you so much for watching my Baztan videos and writing such kind words. Wow, your first Camino, that is so exciting!!! You must be very excited? Doing the Baztan would give you a quieter start, that’s for sure. But, I highly recommend a night in Roncesvalles after you’ve crossed the pyrenees on the Frances. You will have such an amazing time.
If you have any questions or concerns then please do let me know.
      Buen Camino

We walked in early April. You’ll likely get some showers this time of year, but it was very peaceful

I would like to know how you found the Invierno overall ...was the accommodation hard to get, did you have to prebook, and what sections you have to carry supplies to tide you over to where you can restock. In other words, any information and tips would be great. I thoroughly enjoyed following you as you walked, thanks.

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos. It was the Baztan that I walked which goes from Bayonne to Pamplona. I loved it, it was such a beautiful route that takes you through forests, villages and lush green farmland. It is different to some of the more popular routes, in that services can be a little sparse on some of the later sections - but we were able to get a pack lunch on one of the days and get some food from a local supermarket on another day.
I’d recommend taking supplies for after Elizonde, as shops are a bit sparse after that. You can get a lovely meal, drinks and a pack lunch for the following day at Venta San Blas, if you decide to walk that far, the owners are lovely and it’s bookable online - www.booking.com/hotel/es/hostal-venta-san-blas.es.html
I’d thoroughly recommend the Camino Baztan guidebook, that shows food and café stops along the way - amzn.to/457o5Lg
Gronze has a very handy section on the Baztan with all the accommodation listed - www.gronze.com/etapa/bayonne-baiona/espelette
We walked some longer stages, but there are multiple options to make it longer in days and have shorter distances to walk.
In terms of planning, it can be helpful to book ahead, not due to it being busy, but to let the owner or hospitalero know you’re coming. In the ‘bigger’ towns such as Elizondo, we booked the day before via booking.com.
I’d recommend giving this route a try if you enjoy a quieter, more peaceful Camino.
Let me know if there’s anymore advice I can give you. 😊

@Caminohacks Thanks so much for your full and informative reply. Your Baztan videos certainly show the beauty of this camino. My husband and I won't be able to walk your long days, which is why I asked about accommodation and supplies. I will watch your videos again and may take you up on your offer of asking further questions if more arise 😊 Many thanks once again.

@@KiwiPilgrim Always happy to help. The first day we walked was a little long, but the route can easily be broken down into shorter stages. If you get time I would look at the Gronze link I sent, then you can plan your distances each day.
An example of shortening the stages would be Day 1 - Walk from Bayonne to Ustaritz, which is just under 14 kms.
I'm here if you need me.

Yesterday I walked reading to Basingstoke, on the st James Way. I’m going to have to come back to finish it, as I don’t have time today to do the next section. Have you walked it?
My recommendation would be to download the gps route details into a map, as there are quite a few sections where the way markers go missing.

@@janismartinpoet2815 It should be lovely then. I'd recommend downloading the GPS route onto your phone. You can find it here:
      britishpilgrimage.org/portfolio/st-james-way/
I then used the Outdoor Active app to open the file. The route map was a life saver, as there are parts where the little signs are hard to see.
