I went to a record show back in 1980. Someone had a SEALED copy of The Beatles {butcher cover}. They only wanted $100 for it but I didn't bring enough cash! I am pretty sure it was an original. Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away! 😢
It would be worth a fortune now 😟

My first record show blew me away, not because of the records, but because of the cash only policy haha. I had my tail between my legs. Thanks for the tips haha.

Great video. I completely agree about always bringing cash. I didn't bring enough cash to a record show once and people were a lot less willing to make a deal when I only had a credit card. Have a great weekend. 😀

    My rules for buying collections:
    1)Have a truck lined up.
    2)Ask for photos beforehand.
    3)Pack heat!

I've got a fourth one....leave your moral compass in the car. I recently had a call from a friend who was getting rid of his entire collection. I went round to his house and he had a lot of decent stuff which I offered him £50 for (which he accepted). But he also had quite a lot of records which I thought were probably quite rare - early blues and jazz things, sixties 45s etc, so instead of ripping him off I advised him of some ways he could get them priced up properly, so he could get what they were worth. Last night he messaged me to say he'd offloaded them onto a local guy for £50, so the rare stuff could also have been mine if I'd just doubled my offer.

I was given about 6 boxes of records by “friends” who were downsizing from a large house to a condo. After my car was loaded they said they had some stereo equipment I could have. Like an idiot, I said I wasn’t interested but told them who might be. Next day they called and said they sold it for $300.

It's amazing how little people value all this stuff. People would rather pay peanuts and get shot of it than find a seller who'll give them what it's worth.

Yes, always look through everything, because that rare item is always hidden on the bottom of the pile!

Excellent advice Jonathon. I’ve been lucky in that I’ve dealt with people I either know or have friends who have been middle men to the sellers. Because of that, they’ve accepted cheques. Remember those things? 😁😉. Cheers.

Checks ? What the hell are those ? Hahahaha. I remember when I worked at Whole Foods and we stopped taking checks. All the old ladies were freaking out. Thanks for watching

Great tips Jonathan! You're absolutely right that having more money is always better, just in case! And always ask about more. Last summer I drove past a Yard Sale. Naturally I was curious so I decided to turn around and check it out. No records put out but I thought what the heck, I might as well ask. Boy am I glad that I did! They take me to a secret area of their garage (secret door in the back) that opens up to about 500 records and stereo equipment. I spent the next couple hours digging. So much good stuff but I didn't have enough cash! I just wasn't prepared for it. I ended up only buying what I really wanted that I could afford and walked away from the rest. The next time I am driving past that place though I think I am going to stop in again to see if there's more to sell. Great advice!

Great rules. Advisory items for consideration; take a good quality L.E.D. torch in case the lighting's not good - even if it is a torch is useful for checking the condition of albums. make sure you have a drink and a sandwich or snacks with you too. Always let a responsible adult know where you're going and don't go down in cellars with strangers who are wearing a human flesh face mask and carrying a chainsaw. Unless they have really good records for sale when it's probably worth the risk........😄

I thought I was that responsible adult. Hahahaha ! Good suggestion about that human flesh face mask. Got to remember that. Thanks

These rules are all undeniably true! #1 is also true for record shows. I have run out of cash at one in the past.

Most people at shows now take CC or Venmo, but it’s always easier to ask for a discount when you’re paying with cash.
