9 and 10 are essentially my favorite games in the franchise. 11 is a close 3rd. Personally, I compare 9 and 10 more to 4 in terms of design and level mentality. The menu, Mega Man's movement, weapon mentality are all reminiscent of 4 imo. We don't have the charge shot but bosses have shorter I-frames again so they die much faster. (especially if you are playing as Proto Man who can just use the charge shot and then spam the buster) Anyway, fun video.
Honestly, I really do believe that 9 perfected the concept of introducing new platforming gimmicks with each stage and then gradually iterating on it throughout the stage's length to keep things interesting while ensuring that the player wouldn't be ill prepared to deal with the more intense obstacles that appear during the later segments. So yes, I do feel that Mega Man 9 has the best level design in the classic series.
I think Megaman 9 is a great game, the way it mixed a retro aesthetic with some more modern surprises ( DLCs) is great. And its level design is really creative.

I can understand not wanting to do a voice reveal, but maybe use a transformer or something instead? The monotonous text-to-speech voice delivery just sells your content short and makes what you say feel less genuine.

Mega Man 9's name is "Ambition's revival" which reminds Mega Man 4 named "A new evil ambition" -Not just themes, Mega Man 9 used Mega Man 2 sound effects mostly, but few of them are from Mega Man 3. -Mega Man 9 has a new color palette for Mega Man, which were Blue-Cyan in nes era, now are Blue-Blue -Mega Man 9 robot masters are labeled as DRN or DLN first time after the very first game -Mega Man 9's secret has never been revealed for 15 years -Through weapon switch hacking, Mega Man can charge Mega Buster in this game -You cannot give the name "SIGMA" when the game is asking, it would be censored
The whole return to 8 bit thing was a neat novelty, but it ultimately boiled the series down to a nostalgia cashgrab which it really hasn't recovered from.
I've never played 9 with the intent of beating it (I suck at the classic titles for some reason), but it's such a good game. Galaxy Man and Splash Woman are my favorites
MM9 is a perfect example of the fans preferring simplicity over innovation. It's interesting how MM9 is so highly-regarded, yet it's so much simpler than all the X games. I love "Classic" games, but are they really in league with "X" games graphically, story-wise, and most importantly gameplay? They're mostly just black backgrounds with a few colors. X games are highly detailed. What would happen if Capcom just merged X content into "Classic" games.
I know I’m a little late, but I agree for the most part on your review. I’ll revisit it every now and then, but some of the level design (like general trial and error and getting a game over on the Wily stages sending you ALL THE WAY BACK AT THE START OF WILY’S CASTLE) can be quite frustrating. I also agree on the fact that it takes WAYYY too much from Mega Man 2 probably only because that’s the one 90% of the playerbase like the most (sorry to break it to y’all, but 4 and 6 are the best ones, fight me ;>). Overall, my personal rating of the game would beeeee 7.5/10. A good Mega Man title, and a breath of fresh air at the time, but far from my favourite.

Mega Man 9 was ahead of its time, for sure. There weren't many new official games which had an authentic retro look and feel.

I kind of wish they kept the humanoid designs for the robot masters. Which they did for 11 and I love their designs.

MM9 is definitely the best of the series but it's a hard conclusion to draw as there are no "truly" bad megaman games some are just better than others
