This video features three numbers from the 1954 television production of Cole Porter's musical PANAMA HATTIE starring Ethel Merman. The show opened on Broadway in 1940 with Merman in the starring role and MGM made a film version in 1942 starring Ann Southern.
The first song is "Fresh as a Daisy" which was sung in the stage production by a supporting character played by Betty Hutton. If you listen closely you'll also hear a snippet of ""You Said it" which on stage was a trio sung by Hattie (Merman) and the two sailors. If you look closely, you'll notice Art Carney from THE HONEYMOONERS is one of the sailors in this clip!
The second song is one of the shows most famous and enduring songs, "Make it Another Old Fashioned, Please." Since this aired on television in 1954, you'll notice specific references to alcohol are omitted. For example before the song Hattie says "punch" rather than naming a particular drink. Also, the last line of the song as written is "make it a straight rye" and that line is gone completely.
The final song "Ridin' High" was actually introduced by Ethel Merman in Cole Porter's 1936 musical RED, HOT AND BLUE and for some reason was added to this TV version as Merman's opening number. This clip features it being sung for the show's finale.

    0:00 Fresh as a Daisy
    1:10 You Said It
2:48 Make it Another Old Fashioned, Please
