Waldorf Homeschool Math Tips: Laundry Math

What a simple example of how to work with math or counting in number patterns that is easily incorporated in to everyday activities for Waldorf homeschooling?
This is a great example of how we can practice math at home with an everyday activity. With these freshly washed socks, we can practice some counting patterns before we put them into their drawer. We can count by 1's, 2's, and 4's. Not only that, we can then roll the pairs together and have a real-life example of number representation. We know, without seeing the individual socks, that each roll represents the number 2. And we know that each color, in this example, represents 4.
Activities like this can be found around the home and every time we practice in these little ways, the child begins to see the wonderful order and beauty of math expressed in the world around them!
