Mitch Charles absolutely not you can't go in that cage and beat people in record time and say that that's hype. maybe that would sound realistic if she had won 1or 2 fights in 30 seconds but to do it almost every time she stepped in the cage so no that's not hype at all my friend
Let's see she only had one amateur fight which she won by first round sub then turns pro and after her second fight gets a title shot wins it and ends up goin 12-0 with 12 finishes 11 of the 12 finishes coming in the first round..so how is that just hype?
eldie farrar You just made the case AGAINST her. 1 amateur fight before turning pro explains exactly what the competition was like then. 12 and 0 against tomato cans other than Miesha Tate. Pioneer is the perfect word. She has never been the best, she has never been great. She was the first. That's it.
Romelious Desmus Maximus lol Are you seriously implying that just because someone fights frequently, that that makes them a good fighter?? If she armbar's someone with a 3 and 9 record when she's 4 and 0 that somehow validates her? There are 550+ fighters on the ufc roster. 95% of them don't make anywhere near the type of money the select few at the top make. That means they fight very often to make ends meet. Are starting to see how ridiculous you sound?
So i guess everyone forgot about Gina Carano who simply ran out of opponents since the division was like 7 women max. The only difference was UFC was less popular during Gina's time as a whole for men and women. but still rousey is more like Gina 2.0 rather than the "womens Pioneer"
Everyone seems to forget that Rousey tried to get Carano to come out of retirement and fight her, after a 3 year lay off. Rousey just wanted to use her name and get an easy W on her record. Calls out Cyborg at a weight she knows she can't make. Then she got gifts from Zingano and others, Rousey has always been a bully with a bad attitude not a role model.
Gina was Ronda's hero and friend. However Ronda is argubly a better fighter than Gina and much bigger star. She's the pioneer because of her break out success, women have been fighting for decades and non of them were able to make it popular. Ronda has an appreciation for wrestling and has the ability to put butts in seats. Women have have been fighting for decades and some retired undefeated, but Rousey is indeed once in a lifetime. Doubt we'll see another female fighter this famous again
Nunes is more of the role model . She came from the gutter of Brazil and has gone through way more worse than Ronda Rousey and she's at the top of the sport right now .
That was one realy stupid argument she made. The only double standard there was in Rouseys favour, as she disgraced core principles of martial arts with her bevahour that would have been unacceptable in male fighters. And if looks didn't matter in fighting i wonder why the biggest male stars like Chael, JBJ, GSP and Conor are all pretty boys.
one of the rare moments that I agree with Jason Whitlock I expected Kenny Florian and miss Karen to take their stance but they know Ronda Rousey was a hype job Whitlock just had the ok to say it
Karyn Bryant is awesome as always. Btw how can anyone going into the cage being called a coward? Maybe a some fighters should do something else depending on how they handle losses. When it comes to Ronda she have opened the door for other female fighters in the whole UFC, the media, movies and so on. Give her credit for what she has done no matter what you think about her attitude.
I don't know how to tell you this, but Dana is the person who made the decissionand so he would know better why he decided then you, even tho you are on the internet......
Answer the question. Is she a good role model? Absolutely not! If other athletes are held accountable for their actions or poor sportsmanship, then why should Ronda get a pass??
Ppl don't see TIME PASSES BY: Ronda was successful because not only women in UFC, but Women''s MMA as a whole was in the beginning and VERY FEW women were all-rounded or trained in specific MMA gyms back then. There was plenty room for being great at ONE thing and get away with it. THINGS CHANGED - every female fighter has a strongest point but they're getting more and more skillful, all-rounded, better conditioned, better trained and coached.
How does being a fighter win or lose make someone a role model? She was the 1st Champion in a new division, so she gets credit for paving the way but that's it.
It still doesn't dismiss those victories she has over those two fighters. Ben Rothewell beats Alistair Overeem, and he beats JDS, and JDS beats Rothwell, but it still doesn't remove the victories.
America On Fire But the networks want race to eclipse every dialogue that's why they bring in more and more black journalists and former athletes on their shows. They are purposely making every aspect of entertainment another left wing apparatus. Every week there's another black athlete or media talking head playing the race card despite having no evidence whatsoever. It disgusts me to my core and I really hope race baiting meets its death bed soon.
This is literally the first time he's said something like this. He attacked LeBron for saying he was scared the police might hurt him. Even Colin was like well that's his kid but Whitlock says there is no racism.
I don't no why they keep trying to give her so much credit for being a woman fighter Ronda Rousey was over hype and didn't create women fighting Lucia rijker Laila Ali Ann Wolfe Christy Martin all these ladies would've destroyed Rousey no matter what the fighting discipline is!!!!
Speak properly and maybe you'll actually sound like you know what you're talking about. Ronda would destroy at least half of those names you mentioned in the octagon (if not all).
Someone who beats people up is the best role model for my niece. I'm gonna show her tons of Rousey tapes. I also want to focus on the body paint shots, the swimsuit issue, etc. ROFL. Sure.
harlequin75 ronda slim down for the body paint stuff shes naturally 155lbs and competed in judo at 154lbs . if she really want to show herself its the pictutr when she took time off thats her size.
Its obvious the other two other than Florian and Bryant don't know WTF theyre talking about. Ronda didnt create a womens division. There was already women fighting in Strikeforce and in Japan. Dana White decided on bringing women in because of Ronda's popularity. Its slightly different. Also, he talked about resumes. Ronda was a bronze judo medalist in the olympics, dominating against the ranked women in her division, undefeated up until her last two fights. Dont get me wrong....she had holes in her game most people overlooked because she was winning. And yes her two losses were bad. But the hype for the most part was real. The worst hype that ever happened is she got one knockout on Bethe and all of a sudden shes got 'world class boxing'. Ugh. But her resume is still better than any other women in the world. (this coming from NOT a ronda fan either)
idk man, I have a friend who's a bit of an insider in ufc, the whole "fought the best that was available" statement doesn't hold much weight given some of the info he's given me, apparently she's ducked a few great fighters up until holly Holm lol
It's great to see the sport grow in popularity since it's clearly being talk about in mainstream sports media. But it would be nice for Jason Whitlock to be more humble and educated. He's trying to make a case/ debate about a sport he knows nothing about. He just hoped on the bandwagon due to Rousey and McGregor. Please give humble opinions Jason you're not an expert when it comes to MMA. Learn first then preach. You're not a Kennys or Karyn.
everyone saying there would never be women in UFC if it wasn't for Ronda. smh i think there would be women in UFC by now with or without her, she was just the first one to convince Dana to do it
Ronda didn't sign to be ROLE MODEL but with fame ppl FOLLOW the model it's set by their idol and RR wasn't a good one. Great contribution of Rousey is the POPULARIZATION OF WMMA. But she is NOT a PIONEER EITHER: Megumi Fugii, Tara LaRosa, Julie Ketze, Cris Cyborg, Marloes Coenen, Gina Carano, Tonya Evinger etc were on MMA way beffore and opened doors. It was through one that Ronda came in. RR acted as she was bigger than MMA. In 2 fights Rousey discovered that it was hype, she's human and WMMA evolved.
There is no doubt that Dana White took a woman that was cute to alot of me outside of the ring and market her. Dana White GAVE her the first title belt because she was in Strikeforce not UFC. So Ronda was a marketing tool... put her against average chicks to win against. Only one who wasnt average was Miesha Tate
Good debate. Have to agree that Rousey is something of a hype job but there are many variables. For me she's a notable female MMA not a pioneer nor a legend. Her reactions since losing and her general demeanor disappearing after the Holms defeat etc further add to myth rather than the legend column.
Everybody says fire coach.. when she was 12-0 coach was the best in the world.. its more ronda herself she tried to evolve by hirering edmund as a striker coach, but she had to stick whit grapli g/judo and dump her ego
The Great American HYPE... Ronda was just FIRST UFC woman fighter. She was matched perfectly in the beginning. She never evolved. And she's in her PRIME! Add her to the list of those who died in 2016
Ronda was arrogant and cocky. She only wanted to fight as long as she won and her relatively meager UFC record shows that. That said, she was great for the women's division of the UFC and launching that into the mainstream. She was a trailblazer. Being a "role model" is debateable.
dana said no way at first because he believed there was no real money in it. ronda changed that mentality. as they say, follow the money. now he says its the beat decision hea ever made because it makes the company moooore moooney.
She only gets treated how she treats other people. When she beats her opponents she doesnt shake hands or give credit to them. Now they are not going to give her any credit after getting knocked the f out!
The truth is Ronda Rousey was crowned too early. I laughed when she compared herself to Mike Tyson. Let's face it, before the 2 last losses, she had only won 12 fights. 12 fights?! And she was the queen already? Tyson won 50 fights out of 58 and 44 by KO and that includes his desperate fights towards the end of his career.
Boxing and MMA are totally different, much easier to lose. Also men can't be compared to women, if she said that she said something stupid. Only way those 2 can be compared is the way their career's plummeted after losing their first fight
love Whitlock as usual the only 1 to see it for what it is unlike Kenny who commentates with blinders and love for the sport and everyone in it and the other 2 who are trained no guts "journalists" and would never say boo against a pushed narrative!
Is like rookie QBs...they have great games when the the defense has no tape on you. There was no female division, she got destroyed twice, showed she wasnt able to adapt to stand up fighters.
Ronda did not create women fighting smh even in the UFC which people are still never clear in stating. They like the muddy water in which they speak. Women could of easily been in the UFC many years before Rousey even chose to fight in MMA. In fact for intelligent people Women's fighting at the very least was big when Cris Cyborg fought Gina Carano. UFC is way late in jumping onto a bandwagon which had already been moving, and had circled the world several times already. And another ridiculously false thing people say is she is the best ever? Not only is it not true before her- let alone after, but even when she was on a roll, her skills were far below overall than two or three dozen fighters fighting during the same period as her. Invicta, Amateur MMA rings and cages the world over could actually strike, take punishment, submit and fight off submissions from every angle, and were not evil in the way they liked to talk about the injuries that may have occurred, or intentionally in Rousey's case we have to be real as she talked about breaking arms ahead of time as well as after in a satisfactory way. Role model? SMH
who is this woman, the media always hyped her, and understandable, UFC is a bussiness and they need to sell their fights. She was hyped and so is Connor, but Connor knows how to sell a fight and back it up, even when he has lost
She didn't grow while the women did. Royce Gracie didn't grow and got left behind. She allowed Edmund to be in charge of every aspect of her training . Foolish. You need a head trainer who oversees the training while your striking coach, wrestling coach , submission grappling coach and your strength and cond coach do their thing. No one person knows enough to handle all that by themselves. Her fault for being thick headed and too loyal to Edmund for some reason. Go away for 2 yrs and train with Bas Rutten and come back reinvented if the bank account doesn't make you retire. Marvin Hagler " Hard to wake up at 4am to run when your sleeping on silk sheets."
a role model ..... no ... she was the opposit .... how can you even propose such a question ? your chracter shows when you are down , when its tough ....when you loose , not when you win and when everything is rosy
Connor loses and he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Ronda loses and she takes a year off and thinks about killing herself. If she were a guy she wouldn't be getting so many people defending her spineless nature.
Horatio Valdés Ronda was actually taking a year off regardless if she won or lost to holly to work on other projects she had going on she didn't take a year off because she lost I don't get why people think that the only thing that's correct is yes she did contemplate suicide but she knew before hand she was taking a year off she talked about it from the beginning of that year about needing time off
A role model is someone who is classy gracious in victory and humble in defeat. She's a poor sport win or lose. A terrible example for any athlete to follow
Not sure where Whitlock is getting the "Great White Hope" thing from. As far as I know (and I could be wrong) there's not a lot of black girls fighting in the UFC....Yet. I wonder what will happen when the sistas start getting into MMA? That's going to be interesting. It's going to happen eventually.
keybladechosn1 it's going to get a lot more interesting that's for sure. I totally overlooked the lack of cultural diversity in women's MMA. Specifically, the sistahs haha. Man, I can imagine girls like Ann Wolf and Laylah Ali in women's MMA. What a prediction I believe you've made. Give it within 5 years or so.
so give her a pass because she's a woman? that's basically what they hinted towards and mean. Uhhh alright well you don't want true gender equality then.
she is not a role model and never was, a hype job who was a cocky champion and got exactly what she deserved, I will always love Nunes and Holm for putting Rousey in her place lol
eric349 it's all mma, so I don't see how rousey started any of these unless your just saying for Dana White. moreover it further proves that Rousey isn't special, just had better promotion. She was the face of Womens MMA, so Gina opened these doors not Rousey.
this kind of people are roll model here: ronda,Cyrus.....what to learn ? wake up and open your eyes in time. now they blame the couches for not striking. wtf. she was named champion without even fighting. I want to se rematch soon is possible. I want to see her again. don't judge me. she was trying to suicide anyway. give her a rematch Dana. f your hype. I will never buy your paper view for fighters like ronda.diaz.and other arogants
Why is that old curly girl supporting the horrible ronda? I am crindging along With that big black guy. The curly old girl needs to understand Ronda is no good ad never was.
His "great white hope" point was out of left field and that's what I'm scratching my head about. He lets this racial stuff color his opinions way too much,
Ronda's personality showed the kind of person she is
Ronda is the biggest media hype job of all time
Mitch Charles absolutely not you can't go in that cage and beat people in record time and say that that's hype. maybe that would sound realistic if she had won 1or 2 fights in 30 seconds but to do it almost every time she stepped in the cage so no that's not hype at all my friend

Killian Landji those tomato Cans you talking about has more fights and experience than her...and she went thru them

Jason U Gina was legit!👍
That is true. After that beating she wanted no more of MMA
Macdaddyrick123 She quit because Cyborg got caught cheating and she loss as a result.
Nunes is more of the role model . She came from the gutter of Brazil and has gone through way more worse than Ronda Rousey and she's at the top of the sport right now .
and does interviews and seems genuinely happy to be there
Yeah but she's been around longer than Rousey and she didn't bring women into the UFC...big point you're missing.
But if a man acted that way, that woman would be all over it.
double standards are real people, and it happens against men waaaaay more than women.

I love how Kenny Florian is Armenian and keeps it real he said Ronda Rousey should drop Edmond Tarverdyan
Ronda didn't bring women's MMA into the UFC, as much as Dana's giant ego keeping them out. Would've happened eventually.
I don't know how to tell you this, but Dana is the person who made the decissionand so he would know better why he decided then you, even tho you are on the internet......
Answer the question. Is she a good role model? Absolutely not! If other athletes are held accountable for their actions or poor sportsmanship, then why should Ronda get a pass??
which athletes who get convicted of multiple crimes and still play in the nfl and barely lose sponsorship deals are being held accountable again?
Ken Flo!!! Love the collab, do it more often for UFC events please!!!
great vid thanks for sharing this!
Ppl don't see TIME PASSES BY: Ronda was successful because not only women in UFC, but Women''s MMA as a whole was in the beginning and VERY FEW women were all-rounded or trained in specific MMA gyms back then. She did beat Meisha Tate (who beat Holly Holm) twice, and Cat Zigano who had beaten Amanda Nunes before.
Shin Gozira mma math doesn't work
Shin Gozira transitive property don't work in sports
It still doesn't dismiss those victories she has over those two fighters. Ben Rothewell beats Alistair Overeem, and he beats JDS, and JDS beats Rothwell, but it still doesn't remove the victories.
I don't like to make excuses, but she beat 3 fighters who stomped Nunez. Rousey didn't come back properly, you start from the bottom not the top.
Shin don't forget about Alexis Davis
Really Whitlock? Did you have to pull the race card? That may be why you aren't a well liked media guy. Playing the race card is intellectually lazy.
America On Fire But the networks want race to eclipse every dialogue that's why they bring in more and more black journalists and former athletes on their shows. They are purposely making every aspect of entertainment another left wing apparatus. Ronnie Ramone I'm black and I agree with you!

she quits after 5 years but miesha was a champ strike force 10 year career and 25 fights and Ronda is the face of women's mma? she's hype
Jason bringing up white privilege for once! This is surprising.
She looked literally suicidal during her stand with Nune’s like own up that you were not the best fighter she was better.
There would be women in the UFC even if there was no Ronda Rousey. It would've happened later, but it would have happened.

the tittle of the video should be: do you believe ronda rousey is a Sore Looser?
Connor loses and he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Ronda loses and she takes a year off and thinks about killing herself. If she were a guy she wouldn't be getting so many people defending her spineless nature.
Horatio Valdés Ronda was actually taking a year off regardless if she won or lost to holly to work on other projects she had going on she didn't take a year off because she lost I don't get why people think that the only thing that's correct is yes she did contemplate suicide but she knew before hand she was taking a year off she talked about it from the beginning of that year about needing time off
Whitlock has got to go. Hes got no idea what hes doing anymore. Hes an absolute mess.
Who's the dude with the Jericurl?
I wish Florian made a comeback....hes too far gone now.
A role model is someone who is classy gracious in victory and humble in defeat. She's a poor sport win or lose. A terrible example for any athlete to follow
Don Hudson wasn't a great football player? Exposed
funny part is Ronda is 12.5% black.
Black dude brings up race and the white dude claims the corporation used Ronda...GTFOH! Let Kenny and Karyn talk
Ronda isn't an "amazing" anything!!! Her losses far more spectacular than any single win!!!
One drop rule heard it on tmz so its got to be true.
no women before her? gina carano? cyborg? that guy don't know squat
Give it within 5 years or so.
keybladechosn1 go look at invicta black and brown girls are already in mma
we would have women in UFC eventually. i dont buy it.
so give her a pass because she's a woman? that's basically what they hinted towards and mean. Uhhh alright well you don't want true gender equality then.
Guys, any woman that had ronda as their role model. Stay away from here
she is not a role model and never was, a hype job who was a cocky champion and got exactly what she deserved, I will always love Nunes and Holm for putting Rousey in her place lol
of course the black guy has to show his racism. if Rousey was black and Kenny called her the great black hope, he'd be fired.
Ronda Rousey is an amazing Heavy bag..............
Is Gina Carino dead or something? Didn't she fight, win, and make movies? Rousey was just pretty.
eric349 it's all mma, so I don't see how rousey started any of these unless your just saying for Dana White. moreover it further proves that Rousey isn't special, just had better promotion.
I will never buy your paper view for fighters like ronda.diaz.and other arogants
don't forget domestic abuser she such a great role model.
Jason Whitlock is so cringy.
great white hope? what? in todays combat sports shouldt it be the other way around.
Not a great role model at all just like Dana, ruthless and bullyish
Why is that old curly girl supporting the horrible ronda? I am crindging along With that big black guy. The curly old girl needs to understand Ronda is no good ad never was.
Jesus, Whitlock is so bad. Most of the time his assessments are so off base, he keeps getting schooled by everybody around him.
His "great white hope" point was out of left field and that's what I'm scratching my head about. He lets this racial stuff color his opinions way too much,
It's not a that ridiculous of an argument but it's certain gratuitous.
I am fake news Ronda rousey feet I hate news I am hate news channel I am really angry I am don't watch video
