There is pūrākau that talks about the first ever kōauau being made from a hollow kelp called kōauau so I call these Kōauau kōauau 😎 I love how they sound so pure and clean and easily workable and possibly the most highly playable material there is. I just discovered this incredible instrument today at Waitangi! How have I never seen this instrument before? I couldn’t get a sound out of the one I tried but am desperate to! Now I’ll try and make my own to use 🥰

Mauri ora I use a few diffrent rakau I can do one on Tupakihi/ Tutu. I make them out of totara but thats in the workshop.
