The 2 chambers would be shaped like a bell in 2 tall tanks. With a chain tieing them together. And a gear at the top and the chain meshing with that gear. As the bell shaped weight settles over a corresponding shaped bell at the bottom. As the one bell descends over the fixed bell at the bottom it forces the water to evacuate through a one way valve located at the top of the buoyant bell

The purpose of this device was to show how easy it was to insert air into the bottom of a water filled chamber. I built this for two reasons. A picture is worth a thousand words, and to make me feel better about my first attempt which was a failure. The second attempt I paid attention to physics laws, and it worked! Damned physics!
Now, in the actual design of a working HYPEG, we take the same column of water, insert a conveyor belt with buckets that fold flat against the belt, think cloth buckets with a waterproof coating, then insert compressed air into the bottom just as the empty buckets swing around, shoot the compressed air into each bucket as it starts on the up side of the conveyor. Now, lets say that tower is 100 feet high, and each bucket is one foot high and holds five cubic feet of air. That's 100 buckets times 5 cubic feet. Each foot outputs 62 pounds of lift, so 62 pounds X 5 cubic feet X 100 ft = 31,000 foot pounds output for each bucket, now there would probably be about 210 buckets total, so the total output of a single cycle of this unit would be 6,510,000 foot pounds. Now, with introduction of full cycle time, say 0.2 hours or 12 minutes, you have the numbers to compute joules per second, giving you the total max output of this design. Wanna take a crack at it?

+rit pat this water could be replaced with any water from an elevated source. You could use a lake a creek or river or even an elevated reservoir like those used for water supplies in towns. The other advantage to this is that you don't actually have to drain the water in order to get power out of it. You could simply insert compressed air into the bottom to drive the system. This compressed air could be generated with wind turbines or elevated water sources or geothermal or even solar panels.

Hello,I sketched out a model of something similar a few years prior to watching your video. People need to realize that this would be a way to create energy more efficiently than current processes, and that we are not expecting something from nothing. However, would not the potential energy increase relative to the height of a natural drop in elevation from the water source? Chamber need only be replenished once per cycle but height of vessel is variable. This is different then other models in that it does not require equal energy to exaust the water at the bottom of the cycle, because the vessel is not under water. Same reason Jerry cans have a breather port. This method will require much less water than turbine methods. Could also function in a closed loop using a solar powered pump. What is a river other than a repeating process powered by the sun? Thanks for you time

I have actually made several improvements since that video was made. I have also given up on patenting it, so I will be making all my research available on you tube this year. I have redesigned the lift into an under water conveyor eliminating reset issues. The device now outputs continuously. I have designed numerous ways to produce free compressed air, so elevated water is no longer necessary since compressed air can be sent through pipes long distances without major losses.. Now you can generate electricity in the middle of the desert, no elevated supply necessary! Imagine a wind turbine providing electricity even when the wind isn't blowing! Stored energy in the form of compressed air! Look close at the Bay of Fundy ... enough compressed air to supply the entire American continent, including transportation! And there is so much more planet wide ...

At 3min 35 sec your math is wrong. Try to lift those 3 trucks that weigh 30 tons each. You will have a major failure. (They will go no where, or worse yet, all 3 trucks, valued at half a million dollars each, will be totalled when they fall into the water.)
Get a mathematician to help you. So you do not make yourself look bad.

Dr. J is absolutely correct. We made a mistake. We were so impressed by our friends rendition of three dump trucks, we forgot our lift weight was a single number and we forgot to divide that number by three! The rendition of those three dump trucks took his computer a day and a half! I was impressed! So, I apologize for my error, but as you can see, the science is intact! And I are a mathematician dog gone it! ;-P
You seem to be confusing “footpounds” with “pounds”.

Most of you (even the person posting this apparently copied video) aren't seeing the simplicity of this device... you "overthink" it, assuming it's related to other Water/Air machines. You need to see this as if it were scaled up to the size of a hydro-electric dam. It goes in its place... at the point of a water dam (or natural waterfall), where NATURE provides the continuous flow of water. NO WATER OR AIR IS BEING PUMPED mechanically... the machine it simply "allows" the water to escape the moving tank when it "falls" to the bottom of the outer container, by opening valves at the bottom.

1) From the previous cycle, the "buoyancy tank" begins at the top of the water column, devoid of any air, filled with water.
2) The water-filled buoyancy tank begins to fall (by gravity) through the outer container column which contains water, due to it being heavier than the surrounding water (tank weight = heavier than water).
3) When the "buoyancy tank" reaches the bottom of the outer container water column, a mechanical latch (on the vertical square tube on top of the buoyancy tank) locks it down in place. This is important! This latch may need to exert a small amount of force to seal it (see the seals on the bottom of the PVC tubes?), but very minimal force would be required.
4) The "drain tubes" at the bottom of the "buoyancy tank" are now mated-up to "drain holes" in the bottom of the outer container / water column. These drain holes are normally sealed-off by means of mechanical water valves, so that water in the "column" does not escape.
5) The "drain vales" are now opened fully, "allowing" the water to escape the "buoyancy tank" (which is now latched into it's "bottom position"). These drain holes simply empty into the river below the Hydro Plant. Again... Nature/Gravity does the work... no pump is involved!
6) As the water falls out of the "buoyancy tank", something has to replace that empty volume... air rushes in... no pump.
7) Once the water has all "fallen" out of the buoyancy tank, it is now "filled" with ambient air... buoyancy is now trying hard to lift this tank it to the top of the "outer container", but the latch is still holding it down.
8) The mechanical "hold-down" latch is now released, allowing the buoyancy to "do the work" of Generating Power... via the rising vertical square tube attached to the top of the buoyancy tank... driving a generator (likely through a one-way clutch with override, so that no load is presented while the buoyancy tank is "falling").
9) Once the buoyancy tank is at the surface of the water column inside the "outer container", a mechanical "hold-up" latch now holds the buoyancy tank in place for the next step.
10) A set of "patented vales" opens at the top of the moving tank, allowing water from above (lake level above the dam) to now displace the air in the buoyancy tank, forcing the air out (no pump), causing the buoyancy tank to lose buoyancy. Once all of the air has escaped the buoyancy tank (filled with water), the "hold up" latch is released, and the whole process starts over from step 1 above.
This type of generation would require a TOTAL redesign of the power generation system, for the same reason existing hydroelectric plants are inefficient... they require constant-speed drive system for the generators (alternators actually).
With this (above) type of generation, which works on slow rep-rate cyclic power generation, you would likely need an energy storage system, feeding a electronic generation system... which would be far better suited to handling "peak loads", since you have some energy storage.
The physical layout upgrades to a pre-existing hydro plant would be massive... but it really could be well worth it... the efficiency gained would be incredible. The normal "spillway" would be replaced by the huge "water columns", in which the "buoyancy tanks" would operate. This type of system would work best for dams with greater height differences between inlet and outlet... like Hoover.
How is it that you think turning a valve requires a lot of energy??
Well, since you are using gravity, would it be simpler to have the outer tank empty and fill?
1)first action- the sealed inner tank sits at the bottom of the outer/water column tank. The inner tank is filled with air, the outer tank is empty. The inner tank is held down by a catch mechanism.
2) second action- the outer tank is filled with water to the top. When water level reaches the top a float mechanism is triggered and cuts of the water flow while simultaneously releasing the catch on the inner tanks.
3) third action- inner tank rises to top. When it reaches the top it triggers a mechanism which opens a valve at the bottom of the outer tank.
4) fourth action- the outer tank empties, the inner tank sinks down with the water to the bottom where again it sinks below a catch which holds it.That catch would also trigger a mechanism that would open the valves at the top while closing the valves at the bottom.
The inner tank could be weighted so that it would exert as much force as it lowered as when it rose allowing it to generate as much electricity as it lowers as when it rises.
This could work in areas with large variations in tide.
One could put another twist on it by having a spiral groove run up the inside of the outer tank. The inner tank could be formed so that it has threads that fit in those grooves the way a screw fits in a threaded hole. As the inner tank rose it would turn, creating rotary motion. One could eliminate friction between inner tank and outer tank's grooves by having magnets on each. Arrange them so that the north side of the magnets on the inner tank's threads face the north of the magnets on the outer tank's threads.

this was my first build. I have.made many changes. I replaced the buoyant chamber with several chambers on a conveyor belt. The air is compressed via wind turbines or solar panels or tidal changes or run of river or dams and stored compressed until needed. The compressed air is inserted from below to fill the conveyor containers as needed. And yes as the compressed air ascends it expands increasing the lift. I have published all of this so there are no restrictions on a build. Build it if you want. If you have any questions I will help you free of charge. Im too old to worry about money.

@@GreenmeResearch This has been 'published' on social media. The basic science here will allow local communities to build their own power supply systems using anything capable of compressing air. A wind turbine, solar panels, or even intermittent rain fall sources. And if you have elevated water, and remove the pathetic 16% efficiency of hydro turbine systems, (accelerated mass losses) then you have a tremendous source potential.
Compressed air will wait almost forever in storage tanks, both built and natural, and can transport thousands of miles without temperature problems. Think the Tennessee natural gas pipeline without dangerous gasses, if a community has no local resources, highly unlikely however. And because a local government can not profit, the price of electricity will drop by over 80%, at least. Just like local community treated water plants.
I am not a wealthy person, so I have openly published this without patent protection, so anyone who wants to use this can without patent infringement. The graphic with the trucks is total incorrect, the 1000cft box would not lift the trucks all the way to the top, as it looses power the closer it gets to the surface, if it had exactly enough force to lift them it would travel upwards less than a foot before it was over come and stopped.

I do not know how the air will be transferred from the bottom of the basin to the moving part.
if you use hydrogen you can let the floats give power on the way up and then burn the hydrogen and turn the byproduct into water and then reuse the water to generate more power. this way you get energy from the lift of the float the burn of the hydrogen in the float after it have been used and water as byproduct to drive a hydro power generator from the fall of the water. then you can use the combined energy to release 4 times as much hydrogen as you put in to begin with.
Would it be as efficient to have the buoyancy chamber in a floatation chamber that would just be filled and emptied? One could have the buoyancy chamber lock into position at the bottom. When the water level in the floatation tank reached the top a floatation trigger could then release the catch. You could use a damper to control the rate of rise for a steady delivery of power. A series of such tanks could be arranged to operate in sequence to provide constant energy. Also, another design would be for flotation chamber to be cylindrical and it could have a spiral groove running up it's sides. The buoyancy flotation device could also be cylindrical, with a radius slightly less than the floatation chamber. It could have knobs on it that run in the spiral grooves. As it rose it would spin, as it sank it would spin the other way. It could be weighted enough so that it floated just at the surface. A simple gear mechanism with ratchets could create a one way rotation on the generator whether it is rising or falling.
I hafe similar Idee ten years ago. I improved this in 3 different ways if you want writing me I wil give you the plans.
Better yet, lets compare notes! Maybe you can come up with something even better!

Hi I am an engineering student, i watched the video and i did not quite understand how the storage vessel managed to drop to the ocean floor when it is unfilled with water( buoyancy force) and rise as the pressure would be the same after inrush of water for power generation. I am very frustrated with this yet this should be a project few years ago, I thought you might be able to help!

+mei ... OK, I watched it again, and trust me this is really not very clear, but I think I get the jist. First of all, in spite of the relative shallowness inferred by the drawing, the young lady states up front that due to scale issues, the distance to the bottom is quite deep. Re-watch the video, write down the number and imagine trying to swim down that deep, even with a scuba suit. The vessel you ask about is being pulled to the bottom by the other three every time a wave raises them. Their three time buoyancy (or more depending on the size) are greater than the turbine portion, so the turbine is pulled down every time the others are raised by the waves. Eventually it will reach the bottom. The winches on the ocean floor are ratcheted so the power buoy doesn't return to the surface. Once it reaches the bottom, the main buoy is released and allowed a controlled assent, controlling the unit physically and electrically for output control. It would do no good if the assent was not captured in some way, and allowing the thing to accelerate too fast would be a waste of energy. However, it is still a turbine, it is still rudely inefficient in nature due to accelerated mass, and would be very expensive to build and maintain. It is what us engineers call a Rube Goldburg. Ever heard of one of those?.

Would you be able to share your calculations for this? I'm struggling to find scientific evidence of the calculations in the video (ie. the fact that weight lifted increases THAT significantly for every foot deeper underwater)

I sent you an email in regard to your system. I have never seen anything like it. How would you couple it to a generator shaft? The energy from the box rising in the water would have to be able to transmit the motion to a generator shaft to turn the shaft in the magnetic field. Have you actually generated any power with the system?

In a functioning unit, the upper drive shaft is attached to the upper conveyor shaft output. This drive shaft is connected to an electronically balanced transmission system to dampen the HYPEG output. Kind of what is being done on wind turbines today except the HYPEG output is much more constant. I might not even need to do that ... R&D stuff that still needs to be done. The system in the video was actually hooked up to a weighted bicycle wheel which would keep the displacement box from rising too quickly, thereby 'storing' the energy in an accelerated mass state of the bike wheel. (The spinning weighted bicycle wheel.) I then hooked a bicycle generator and it lit a bicycle headlamp. As long as the wheel spun, it output, light, that part is not really important, but it was still lit for a while even though the box reached the water surface. (The video is, remember, a single box displacement unit, while the operational will contain multiple units causing constant output.) Simply energy stored, or at least delayed using centrifugal force in the video. We would not however use this format, we would simply apply something like dynamic braking to keep the HYPEG from generating electricity until it is needed. Terciary computer stuff probably. Again, R&D . Tertiary (three) computer designs would guarantee correct computer operations. More R&D ... Because we are continuously adding air to the conveyor belt to full load, rapid load changes can be responded to simply by varying the dynamic brakes, (dynamic braking is how the rail road industry keeps those big heavy trains under controlled braking. Heavy control stuff) which are rapid changes controlled by electronic commands from those computers. Very fast, and very responsive to load changes. Simple stuff, but you got it ...R&D again. Now, imagine a bank of say 300 of these units parked outside of NY City, continuously providing real live, totally renewable energy 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, 1000 years a millennium, until Man no longer walks the Earth. And the power comes from wind, elevated water, tidal, waves, and even solar panels. There is more energy out there for free in the form of compressed air than we would ever have a need for.
Ever seen a Tesla automobile? Fully electric. I could make a few improvements though ... like speeding it up to 200 MPH in normal operating mode. Maybe faster, I'm still working on it!! ;-P Nice car though! I just need to convince the birds that flight is over rated! Haaa ha ha! :-P>

Basically though, you would use a rack and pinion to translate the linear motion of the shaft to a rotary motion, wouldn't you? Or perhaps a belt drive would work too?

Calculate the pressure at the base of the column based on depth of the water, then calculate the pressure required to overcome the pressure to insert air into the bottom of the container. I can easily generate massive amounts of highly compressed air with a wind turbine. Thousands of PSI. More then enough to overcome the water pressure at the base of a one hundred foot deep water source!

the greed of the current system will try and stop you or buy interest.
Think of this unit at the bottom of a dam. When you open the bottom valves the water is released into the lower stream, then replaced in the HYPEG with water from the reservoir above. Ideally the HYPEG would be as high as the upper water level for maximum energy retrieval. This unit represents the basic science meant only to show concept, more sophisticated devices are much more efficient. Put Fundy Bay water elevation into this formula and there is enough electricity for the world.

+rit pat this looks like it is for use on a dam wher ethe water was going from the top to the bottom to begin with. this is harnessing the energy on the way back up though , which is substantial and way better than the way we are currently doing it, like he said 8% efficiency.
I think this is not Perpetual Motion Machine, this device uses water from some dams or rivers, but instead of using turbines, it use this instead, claimed to have greater efficiency than traditional way (turbines). CMIIW

If you open a valve at the bottom of the body of water, why does the water exit the chamber? Where does the air come from to replace it? You have to push the buoyant air down which requires more energy.
I see some possibilities for the water to escape and replace with air easy .1- Suppose that the center pole that guides the chamber down to stay in straight line has a hole on the inside like pipe from the chamber to the open air .
2-When the chamber reaches its lowest point and temporary locked in place then one or more valves open and displace the water from the chamber to an other reservoir located below the chamber ....
The trouble is that water is denser than air so water wants to be underneath air. To displace the water in the chamber with air, you need a source of energy to push the air into the chamber to force the water out. When you're at the bottom of a lake with a tube of air in the middle of the device, there's no valve you can open that passively allows air in and water out.
Forget the ocean for a minute , suppose that we have a pool in the third story of a building and right underneath the pool , we have an empty room (the second story ) that we are going to use as a reservoir with a system of valves to displace the water from the chamber through the use of gravity.The water displaced from the chamber to the reservoir could easily pump back to the pool with the use of a tiny fraction of the ascendant force of the chamber.
P.S. Keep in mind that the chamber is automatically locked in place through out the displacement of water .

Think about this Nick. A simple enclosed box filled with water. You drill a two inch hole into the bottom. The water glugs out, sucking air in alongside the water running out.The water mass *is* that source of energy! And you are right, you can not put this into the bottom of a lake unless you can provide a site lower than the lake to allow the water to leave the box.
+Pierrot Hyppolite . Nope, sorry Pierrot, that is in violation of physics law, energy can not be created or destroyed, only changed from one state to another. My draftsman made the same mistake. It would take more energy to return that water to the above floor due to natural losses in friction. The oceans would provide energy due to the elevated water in waves, as well as the accelerated mass of waves, but that energy comes from the Sun.

When you open your valve at the botton, water wont go out. It will get in until water level rise to the surface throuhg the hose you planed to use as a breather. Good concept to store energy. Not to generate it.

Exactly my point. If you unplug a hole at the bottom of your glass, (button witch is at the surface since it's upside down), water level will go up, not down.

1000 cubic feet will maybe left one of the 30 ton dump trucks....not 3 of them. You also have to take in the weight of the crane or elevator materials you are employing. So maybe 3500 cubic feet will left those 3 dump trucks.
You release the water into air at the bottom in your example...how do you release that water in the main body of water where the water pressure is really high? It will not come out??!

+Tim Gard Tim, in the video with the beach ball, you are pushing the ball down using a force. Once the ball is deep in the water, it's a stored force. But you don't push any buoyant object down with the prototype you are showing. You get the buoyancy by dumping the water out at the bottom of the tower you have. and air goes in. How do you do that deep in the ocean where the water pressure is so high? How does water just flow out of the chamber in the ocean...then where does the air come from?
+garvoi Yes, this is a common mistake made. The HYPEG unit itself can not function below the water, it must be located above the water **when the air is drawn from the bottom**. The only way it would function below the ocean is if we were to insert compressed air in from above, which we could do. In this manor, you could skip building an outer container, and insert the conveyor under a pond, lake, or even the ocean. But the compressed air must come from another source then. What might that source be? Wind turbines used as compressors, elevated water in small streams, or even rivers, solar panel driven air compressors, air pumps driven by waves in the ocean, tidal changes like Fundy Bay in Canada. (Fundy Bay could probably power the entire country of Canada all by itself with compressed air and the HYPEG!)

Turbines are very wasteful, (15% efficiency in the best conditions) and the HYPEG wastes almost none of that energy by accelerating mass. Pumped reservoirs depend on very inefficient turbines, and Molten salt suffers from massive delta T losses. Both very inefficient science. This Sounds like a perpetual mobile, if you use air (from where does it come?) to realise kinetic energy and transform this to electrical energy by a generator you receive some electrical power, but less then the amount of kinetic energy. So you have to provide more kinetic energy as you will receive in electrical - result is you loose energy with these toy.

You would need to locate this next to some sort of naturally fed water source due to the fact that when you release the water at the bottom it would eventually lower the overall water level. Otherwise your using extra energy to pump water back into the system. Just saying.

What power is used to pump the water out of the box and draw air in? If you have a box of water in a pool with an air tube to the surface the water in the box wont leave unless air is forced into it.
After reading several comments I see how the water is released into a river. I was thinking of the sea or a pond. The area needed to generate power with this method could be a problem. How many leavys would need to be placed along a river to produce 80% more power than one damb and a few turbines?

the principle of buoyancy - gravity energy extracton is a valid and scientifically correct one. There have beem many proposed and patented systems based on this princi8ple but not one single one of these has been proved to be viable. The energy required to produce the compresed air consumes most of what the system itself produces and no surplus energy is available for external utilisation. The efficiency of the system has been stated to have been 85%. This figure would itself establish the fact that less energy is available as ouptpup than the input energy. So where does the extra energy come from it at all? If you put up a wind turbine and use it to compress air, all your energy is provided for free. If you use elevated water to compress your air then your energy is free, if you use tidal elevation locations like Fundy Bay, your energy is free. If you put a 30 foot head of water on a container of air, how much pressure will there be? Look at the Niagara power project. Do you realize it functions at 7% efficiency? By changing it to a HYPEG system we can approach 90%. That's close to 12 times what they get out of it now. You must do the math on this stuff, if you jump to conclusions you will miss one of the greatest system designs since the automobile. Many said cars were a fad! You don't want to judge too quickly. Keep asking questions and studying the answers, you'll get it!
You do not need compressed air. This system is for capturing hydroelectric power from a dam. If I understand this system correctly then the air enters the chamber when it lowers to the point that the one way, inwards opening valves at the bottom of the chamber are pushed in by the water outlet pipes at the bottom of the whole assembly. The air enters the buoyancy chamber from a line that goes to the top of the assembly, there obviously must be a one way valve that only lets air enter and not leave. Gravity takes the water out and air enters. What I don't understand is how the chamber remains at the bottom past the point of simple buoyancy. Perhaps there is a catch mechanism that is released only at a certain level of tension . There would also need to be gaskets at the water release ports that would slide over the pipes at the bottom.There would also need to be a valve on the water release ports for the main tank that would be triggered when the buoyancy tank hit it at the bottom, perhaps a spring loaded cam mechanism on the two pipes. You could arrange it so that as the Buoyancy Tank pressed down a knob on the outlet pipe ran in a spiral groove that turned it one way, then reversing the motion as it lifted would turn it back again, closing it again.

I use a system that is a simple pressure differential. 2-20’ x 6” pvc pipes connected to each other at the top and bottom. I pump air in to the bottom of one side that creates the pressure differential witch makes the water continuously move. I have a $250.00 micro hydro 500w generator piped into the bottom of the other side. The 60w air bubbler is what makes the system work. The trick is u can’t pipe the air bubbler directly into the bottom of the pipes. U have to get on top of the system and slowly insert the hose in. That way the water starts moving and u slowly increase the depth till u get to the bottom. Then u have endless water moving
You know that your machine is not cyclic don't you? Once the box has risen to the top, you have to fill it again with water. Hence, you need a supply of water coming from the top. If you have to pump water to the top, the energy needed to pup the water is equal or bigger than the energy given by your mechanism. IT DOESN'T PRODUCE ENERGY, IT JUST STORES ENERGY and probably not so efficiently than other systems.

Those would be special valves indeed. Valves control the flow of liquids, they do NOT create that flow. An outside force would still be required. A HUGE outside force.
Thats funny. I put an air hose from a simple small automotive air compressor into the bottom of a ten foot deep pond and the air easily was pumped to the bottom and bubbled up. Maybe you are using mercury instead of water? Besides, I am not pumping air into the bottom, I am simply letting the column of water push the air in. You are jumping to conclusions instead of study! Yes, it looks to me like you are essentially letting water fall through the system, and instead of a turbine or Pelton wheel, you are using the "dumbwaiter" (no offense) as the thing the water has to fall through on the way down.
So you need to be in a location where you have a usable head of water that you didn't have to pay for, like a dam or waterfall. The advantage must come from the upward travel, where you are also generating power by utilizing buoyancy, not just on the downward travel.
I can see why you need trick valves. Where may I find the patents? The website listed doesn't seem to be working. I hope that doesn't mean you've gone out of business already.

Why not remove the water from the larger tank and use whatever system you filled the tank with to simply fill the smaller tank and use its weight to create power, HMM JUST LIKE A WATER WHEEL ALREADY DOES!! Lol!
