  • In today's video, we're diving into a shocking revelation about Uncle Iroh's past that could change everything we thought we knew about him. A betrayal so deep, it left me reeling.
If you haven’t already heard, there is a new story coming out between Iroh and June, where Iroh has to confront his past while June looks to her future. I admit, I wasn’t really looking forward to this new story until this new information came out about it. Now I’m fully on board to see how this will play out. Stick around until the end of the video and I’ve got a feeling you’ll have the same reaction as me.

Okay I'm extremely interested in this story now. Iroh is within my top 3 favorite characters for ATLA, that said I've always been interested to see how his soldiers and the fire nation reacted to his retreat at ba sing se after they had breached the wall.

@@nightelf2487 True, I was always curious on how the soldiers under his command during Ba Sing Se reacted to his retreat. I really don’t think this is an issue. We are literally told in the original series that Iroh had a “complicated” past and wasn’t always the wise and lovable uncle we know him as. And it makes sense if you look at how the royal family is brought up.

People often forget that Iroh was a highly renowned general of the fire nation, not just by the populace, but by the soliders and the ruling class. As renowned as Ozai is by the fire nation army during the show. Iroh has probably ordered the deaths of thousands of people and the destruction and settlement of vast amounts of land

As much as I love Iroh, any story that shows us his flaws is welcome. Partially because people's hyping of him can get a little too much for me and partially because seeing the man he used to be informs more of his character arc that was completed when he burned the Fire Nation banner from the palace gates of Ba Sing Se. People forget that Iroh is not the perfect person that so many fans believe him to be. While he is a paragon of wisdom and proponent of balance in the animated series proper, he is a complicated man with a muddied past and has committed a great number of wrongs. We just often overlook those decisions and flaws as fans because he is such an endearing character. So finding out that he just up and left his troops informs us as the audience of how he processed his son's death. We're not used to such a side of Iroh, who is usually seen as the portrait of responsibility and honor.
I am so ready to see more of the Dragon of the West and he deals with this ghost of his past.

  • @_M_643

I don't see how this will change what people think of Iroh, we already knew that he was a general and that he was responsible for the deaths of people.
In the original show we saw the path he has taken and that is why he is so loved by the community, in this comic we'll see how he took that path which will be quite interesting but I don't think it will ruin what people think of him.

Why would anyone hate this? Iroh didn't magically become a good person the instant Lue Ten died, not only would be have still been a war waging general but now he's broken, distressed, and grieving. It makes perfect sense that he would just up and leave while at his lowest point like this.
The only way anyone would hate this is if they hate the idea of their favorite character having flaws, even though Iroh was already established to be a flawed person in the past anyway.

      @boardcertifiable 2 месяца назад +1

@AntoineBandele well, technically and legally, probably not since the Avatarverse doesn't appear to have an equivalent to the Geneva Convention or an International Criminal Court.
And what country would even act as a neutral agreed upon arbiter? There doesn't seem to be any neutral nations left to be as such. Kyoshi Island probably would have, but they ended their neutrality. And unlike what happened after WW2, I don't think the Fire Nation would allow War Crimes trial decisions to be implemented considering they didn't lose in a conventional sense, nor did they appear to surrender like Japan did after World War 2.
In the end, the Fire Lord as an institution was kept and while Zuko did work to repair the harm done by his country, he still ruled for all intents and purposes, as an absolute monarch.

Iroh was a *general* in a *war.* You have to be really naive to think that this man don't have blood in his hands. He probably killed and destroyed entire families along his way to Ba Sing Se, and if it wasn't for Lu Ten death, he would surely turn out to be another cruel Firelord like Ozai, Azulon and Sozin. All that said, that makes me appreciate even more he's development as a character, and i would love to see more about his relationship with Lu Ten and his reaction after his son passing away... Man, i love this series.

How can she have mastered firebending to such a level that her flames change colour and temperature, and still fall short in comparison to Ozai?

I've always thought that Iroh literally left the siege and did not give his soldiers an orders just because of how much Zhao makes fun of his failure in Book 1 and that we learn it's because of his son. If he was broken enough to the point that he abandoned the siege, I don't see any reason why he would be in the best condition to think and plan for retreat, hence, failing the whole thing altogether.
And if this is the case, then I welcome it. The only reason why I'm doubtful of this is dependent on how it is portrayed in a sense that Iroh must've lose honor when who loses but he should still have some honor under his name somehow remain respected enough and to remain with decent political and public esteem.

I think Iroh is a great character, but I have no delusions that he didn’t commit horrible crimes. He was the crown prince and general of the firenation for years and his father favorite for a reason. Nothing reveled in the comic will surprise me or turn me against the character. There is reason Iroh forgave Zuko so easily for choosing to help Azula at the end of book 2, and that was most likely because Iroh knows he done worse and that he was in no position to judge Zuko.
