  • THIS IS ALL JUST MY OPINION. Nothing I say here is factual. Feel free to agree or disagree.
In this video, Eric talks about whether the need to make fan films "comic accurate" is helpful or harmful? Is it better to make faithful adaptations of the source material, or should fans be free to create their own interpretation of the character?

Fantastic message with this video, it's sad seeing this type of stuff happen in the community. I really hope this inspires change in some of these people because we're all here to bring each other up instead of the opposite. Anyone can wear the mask, and you helped show the community that today. Kudos man

Absolutely love this video man. I completely agree that a big problem in the ffc is "comic accuracy". At the end of the day fan films are FANS FILMS. It's what people vision and interpret the character to be like. Nothing has to be similar or the same as the comics. Thank you for having me in this video!

Thank you Eric, I really needed this. Comic accuracy is one thing that really stressed me out when I was thinking of Spider-Man stories. You’ve given me a whole new perspective on this character, and I will definitely keep this video in mind when I’m thinking of making an actual good Spider-Man fan film I’m proud of. Thanks again, glad to have people like you all in the Fan Film Community - Nico (Green-Light Creations)

It actually never has to be comic accurate, Galaroid Productions’ Spider-Man: Stealth Mission fan film is a perfect example!
He included his own villain ‘Snordore’ which was a great character and he also has a Ned Leeds sort of guy called ‘Joseph Jay’ too!
Personally believe anybody can play the character, that's what the multiverse is about!

All the points your mentioning about Spider-Man fan films, is exactly what I've had to deal with my Batman fan film - and fellow Bat film directors have been dealt with the same issues. And you are absolutely right, everyone should have their own interpretation to how the engage and see this character. Great video mate - thank you for sharing.

If you want a comic accurate Spider-Man go make a Spider-Man film make it the way you want but just because you don’t like a someone’s else’s version doesn’t mean you should rip into them because it’s not how you would have wanted it, if you don’t like that version don’t watch it and move on because there are people who do like it and do wanna watch it, so don’t take the fun out of it for everyone else because your not having fun

You don’t know how much this video means to me, because of how much Spider-Man means to me.
He is, in my opinion, the greatest fictional character of all time, and he had been as much of a role model and a friend to me as my own parents... no, even more.
He inspires me so much, and he has really guided me through everything.
But though I love each different film adaptation of Spider-Man, (Tom, tobey, even Andrew at times) nothing can touch the love I feel for those original comics, because when I read those... he is me, he is just like me. I empathize with his so much, and he makes me feel great about myself and he inspires to try and be my best and do my best, and lots of what I believe in comes from.
And while I enjoy each adaptation of Spider-Man (even the bad ones- Amazing Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man Unlimited, etc) I still enjoy simply because most adaptations stay true to his core and I can appreciate each (except for the 2017 cartoon, god that is the worst cartoon ever) but the only true Spider-Man that is perfect to me in every way is that original, classic Spider-Man...
And Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon, which was my first introduction to the character (the the films) and I love that tv show more than any other.
Those versions of Peter Parker are real to me. They have guided me and made me feel good always.
Spider-Man is my comfort food, because his problems (the Spider-Man identity crisis, the constant hiding, the guilt) can be paralleled so well to what I feel, and because Peter Paarket is also, at the same time, someone to aspire to be like.
And he’s overly sensitive like, and I feel like he is the one person who I can always trust and thoroughly understand.
I think I ought to make my own Spider-Man fan film (not like the other films on my channel, but like A full fledged, casting call production).
But this really defined why I feel uneasy when people say Tom Holland is the perfect Spider-Man or tobey maguire... (though I do really enjoy each of them) because they are adaptations, and not the true Spider-Man. They are different takes on the concept of Spider-Man.
    Thank you for making this.
By the way, You have made some of my favorite Spider-Man fan films, because you really well balance the wit and the charm and also the sweetness (without TOO MUCH sweet, like Tom Holland) and the teen awkwardness and yet also plenty of Peter Parker maturity, very well. And the villains are so on point, you really nailed each character to the original material but also adapted, like Spectacular Spider-Man (the best cartoon ever, change my mind) You are great 👍

There seems to be some sort of vein of thought; that every detail must be comic accurate to be "faithful". It is really about the background machinations of the character, and the setting( to a degree) that should be similar to the comics. If everything was pure "comic accuracy" there would be no awe or beholding beyond the original source material and that makes for a very drab outlook that will, in time, undermine the original story.

This is one powerful message, to all fan filmers out there, it’s sad that there are people who expect there to be a comic accurate spider man fan film or have peter just be a white person and not a different ethnicity, no, like how miles said “ anyone can wear the mask “ and that’s something people need to really burry in their minds, and understand that Spider-Man is everyone, I am Mexican and even though I don’t look like it I am, and I love Spider-Man, so yes, thank you so much Eric for this beautiful message that really needed to be heard by everyone and thank everyone who was a part of this great message. And remember “ when you help someone you help everyone “ - Aunt may.

As a person who is making my own Batman Fan Film I relate to this, every point you made was 100% accurate to the fan film community imao everyone has their own story to tell. I love the point you made about anyone can wear the mask as I am blonde and skinny and I always get told that I can’t play Batman because I don’t look anything like the character at all. This was very inspiring for me and really made me feel much better about making the film

    To true Eric.
This video, along with many others. Allowed me to, like the interpretation of Spider-Man in the Mcu. Because everyone says “Mcu Spider-Man isn’t Spider-Man”. And that’s stupid. I liked homecoming and Far From Home when the came out. When Homecoming can me out, I was 11. So, obviously I loved it. But then, As I grew I started seeing all of these rants on MCU Spider-Man. Which sort of “Brainwashed” me into thinking I don’t like those film. But, I do. There funny, entertaining, and they are Spider-Man, to me. Because Just like you said, anyone can wear the mask.
By the way. If your ever making another video with FFC Creators. Tell me, I’d like to take part in it.

I agree, there is a lot of toxicity in the community and I’m extremely new, I don’t really even count my self in it but my point is that I agree. It’s a character that has so much variety. I’ll tend to go for more comic accuracy, I’m trying to make a Spider-Man fan film that’s like life sorry, 60s based. Comic accuracy is fine just don’t make it that big a deal! 👍👍👍👍 Great job!

Nah, We Lived In The World Where Everybody Including You Are Cheapening Spider-Man The Character In Sloppy Seconds. Of Course It Needs To Be Comic Accurate, Your Fan Films And Your Friends Fan Films Just Put A Middle Finger To Stan Lee Himself. Also, ITSV Is The Worst Spider-Man Movie Along With All 3 MCU Iron Boy Jr. Movies. Basically, Not Only It Carries Idenity Politics, But The Message "Anyone Can Wear The Mask" Means That Everyone Including You Can Be A Tokenized SJW Peter Parker Knockoff.
