Shaq was actually very unhappy and uncomfortable with how Arvydas Sabonis was able to push him around in the WCF, and in the offseason ordered his personal chef to intentionally overload his meals to gain weight. In my opinion the worst decision ever made for him. By 2002 the extra weight had destroyed his feet.

As a Laker fan, I got a lot of respect for Indiana, they did nothing wrong during their great run except losing to the Knicks in 1999, otherwise they simply played in the wrong era. They would be extremely competitive in today’s NBA with the 3 point shooting.

In the 2000 WCF, the Blazers gave the Lakers a serious scare that they almost beat them. The Lakers blew a 3-1 lead, and had to come back from a 15-pt deficit in the 4th of G7 just to avoid getting eliminated and get to the Finals.

That was the final game in Larry Bird's short career as a Head Coach. I really felt surprised that he never coached again, although the Pacers had great runs in these 3 years:
    - 1997-98: 58-24 record, took the Bulls to Game 7 and only lost by 5,
    - 1998-99: 33-17, lost in the ECF to the Knicks,
    - 1999-2000: 56-26, made the NBA Finals for the only time.

This was a much better series than anyone thought it would be - conventional wisdom was that once the Lakers got past the Blazers this series would be a cakewalk, especially since the Pacers struggled through 3 rounds of playoffs against a weak Eastern conference. But Indiana, despite being old and past their prime, really came to play.

This Pacers team gets no credit for how close they came to a championship. History has completely forgotten that Reggie Miller missed the gamewinner in Game 4 literally by a CENTIMETER, and then blew out the Lakers in Game 5 (by 33 I believe?) Pacers were extremely close to going into Game 6 with a 3-2 lead.

I was SO disappointed when the Pacers lost. I never REALLY watched another basketball game after that. All that BS with the Knicks in the 90's and coming close pretty much every year that Reggie Miller was on the team, I just couldnt do it. And the Pacers have never really had a team that had any hope making it to the finals again since Reggie retired.
