3:50 I've heard other jewelers just recommend setting the diamond in platinum so the yellow gold band doesn't effect the color of the stone, so what the video says isn't exactly true.
Because 14k is cheaper than 18k. Specifically if you buying in a retail store most people won't be able to afford and 18k with a 1ct diamond. Most retail stores sales 3 to 5 time their cost price. So if the ring cost them $5,000 they would sell it for $15,000 - $20,000 or more depending the brand of the store.

Anyway if you ever want to get a ring its better to go to the diamond and gold district they give you better prices (the real price of gold and diamonds). Most of them sale wholesale but some sale individually.
