    This is the only video that actually showed me how to use the rodecaster pro. The reason I didn't buy one for so long is because one its expensive and 2 it looked complicated to use. Now I'm willing to buy one in the future as its not as complicated as I once thought

    VERY WONDERFUL STUFF. AS BEFORE NO OTHER CHANNELS ARE SHOWING THE HARWARE, HOOKING UP THE HARDWARE, CONFIGURING THE PODCASTER AND SHOWING THE SETUP AND USE OF THE SOFTWARE. THIS IS FABULOUS, AND I'M VERY EXCITED TO FIND YOUR TEACHINGS.

    I don't have an RCP yet, God knows how badly I want one and I've played different scenarios in my head over and over on how it'll work...in place of the BUTT though, I have a Rocket Broadcaster Pro installed...the RCP updates are so right on the mark and I expect more. Thanks, James. Simplified and enlightening.

    Great Tips, another is using the Smart Phone output TTRS as a normal LINE IN to the Rodecaster Pro. Yes, it's Brilliant! You can bring in computer audio or other device audio CD Players, IPAD Audio too and leaving USB free for Skype etc. RodeCasterPro is incredible.

    Great video. I figured that with the usb butt would pick it up and send it out. How are the quarter inch outputs though? I wonder if they will work when hooked up to a transmitter. The most impressive thing I like about the unit is the Aphex Processing. That in itself is well over 1000 usd for a good entry level processor. Having it built in is a nice radio broadcast feature.

      The process is really similar on windows. Regardless of what software you’re using - just set it to output to the rodecaster sound device and it’ll then route to the USB fader. I hope this helps!

    Hello James! Thanks for taking the time to create and post this video. I have a couple questions. Would this same principle be used in my case?. I am currently using Sam Broadcaster and the stream comes straight from the built-in encoder in Sam. I understand how Ito connect everything , but I’m thinking that I would need a Mix Minus channel so that Sam Broadcaster doesn’t feed audio back to itself. If I just used it only for play out, and I used BUTT for the encoding, will I lose the ability to have the Album Art displayed on the Web Player? Also, do you know of any audio mapping setting inside Sam Broadcaster?Thanks in advance for your tine!

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад

      @@topkatamazona814 Guess it will depend from setup to setup. Normally the DJ controller is a USB controller for the software. So you'd still configure the main output to the rodecaster from within the software. Otherwise, you could always connect them via an audio cable.

    Great video. My question was how the monitor speaker interacts with the mic during a live stream. I use Mixx and it has a mic button that I normally click to activate the mic. When using the Rodecaster Pro, is the mic always live and is controlled by the slider. Up would kill the monitor. No need to click the Mixx mic button on the screen? Thanks

  • @TomTolkien
    @TomTolkien 2 года назад +4

    Great tutorial! Love the explanation of the monitor speaker feature. Would you happen to know if the 'ducking' feature - which I know works to duck the other mic channels - also works to lower the output volume of the music from the line input feed when the presenter is talking on channel 1? Or do you have to use the fader to lower the volume of the music when the presenter is talking? Thanks.

    • @ZeitdiebX
      @ZeitdiebX Год назад

      That’s a legitimate question regarding the ducking feature. I believe it only lowers all other mic inputs by 30 % compared to the host mic channel on fader 1. Bur you can configure that value in the settings. 30 % is a good value, though.
      The music or smart pads or phone inputs. Are they affected by the ducking as well? I‘m not sure. I‘ve seen a guy on Tube who configured smart pad 1 with s latched ducking effect. So every time he presses that pad the ducking is in effect. Press again and levels return to how they are set up. Problem seems to be that the mic input must either be live all the time, muted or my brain is going to critical mass now. An info by James might be beneficial.

    This looks like a really good option for an affordable and easy broadcast console. My question is about the little screen on the RCP. Does it turn itself off when it's not used for a certain amount of time? I'd want to run playout software from my own computer through the RCP, which means it would probably need to remain powered on around the clock, and I'd be worried about screen burn-in.

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад +1

      No, don't think there is an option to do this. I don't think screenburn is much of a problem on LCD's as much these days? We're not in the 90s now Jeff 😂 I guess it might take a few years, but then for the $600 price you could just replace it

  • @maxcmax5211

    Thank you for making this video! Is there a performance difference between charging the Broadcaster using the DC1-USB and the USC type C? What happens if both wires are connected simultaneously? Can the DC1-USB power supply be plugged into an outlet?

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  2 года назад +1

      To be honest, I've only ever use it connected to a power outlet. I did get sent a DC1-USB but couldn't get it to boot up when I tried connecting via phone charger or power bank. So I'm not sure how useful it is - perhaps needs a higher power output than the power sources I tried. I'm sure if you look on the RODE website you'll be able to find technical specs/requirements.

      Only has one USB fader / channel. Hopefully RODE could fix this in future but for now - the work around would be to use another sound card and route your 2nd input into one of the other channels (either the 3.5mm aux or one of the XLR mic inputs)

    it would be very useful to know how you do a broadcast with all the guests at home using zoom and the host working on MIXXX and RODE PROCASTER. How do we adress sound from zoom or other video-conference softwares to MIXXX, and have guests listening to the music when mics are off?

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад

      Afraid the RODEcaster isn’t really designed to do this. You Probably need a mixer with more channels and a good multiple channel audio interface to achieve that. Or a good digital broadcast console such as Axia which will give you greater flexibility but ultimately you’ll need to invest more for this kind of setup.

    Do you have to set the rcp usb to multi track to allow streaming to butt and also playing back from virtual DJ. At the same time.

    I'm using an IMAC, so what dj software can I use? Radio DJ isn't for Mac, so what would be a good choice? I appreciate your input!

      I have RadioDJ 2.0.0.6 running in a Windows-10 virtual machine thanks to the app Parallels, which translates between the two systems, including USB. No idea whether it would interface to this mixer though.

    Maybe it’s asked already,but what version of butt you are using?
    I use butt also but my meter section still are the round led one.
    I couldn’t zoom in to see it ,thanks anyway.
    Nice and clear tutorial 👍

      Just make sure you’re using the latest version - which can be downloaded here:

    Great video. Do I still need a software like BUT to broadcast to Radio.com. Isn't the Radio.co Broadcaster suitable for that? Does BUT add anything that I'm still missing? Thanks!

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад

      Of course you can use the Radio.co desktop broadcaster for Windows, help.radio.co/en/articles/3139189-radio-co-broadcaster-for-windows.
      Some people prefer BUTT - it works on Mac and Linux too.
      Here is a Windows tutorial with the Radio.co software and Rodecaster:

    I'm getting the Rode Podcaster to start an internet radio station, but I am wondering what virtual dj I would need. I plan on playing music, jingles, etc. I will be getting a business license, and licensing to play commercial music. Can you tell me what Virtual DJ package I would need? or an alternative? Thank you, from Las Vegas, Nevada!

      Yes - if you’re starting an online radio station, I recommend using radio.co to power your station and automate it 24/7

    Nice tips mate. Thank you. The big question is though, how do you build an audience?

    Hey James!
    Is it easy to record a skype/zoom/ ms teams call using the RODECaster? If so how is it done since I'm new to the equipment.

      You could have Skype running on your PC which in turn is connected to the RodeCaster via the USB connection, or you can alternately run Skype on your smart phone and have it feeding into the RodeCaster via Bluetooth. Both options will work very well and the audio quality over Skype can be very acceptable.

    hi like to is this free to make radio 📻 station in India or with License in India want ur help

  •  3 года назад +1

    Hey James, thanks for the video. I have a quick question for you. How you are managing music while you are on air with RodeCaster Pro? For normal radio stations, while speaker is talking, music is automatically decreasing like a backround music and increasing again when the speaker stop talking. Best.

    •  3 года назад +1

      The RØDECaster Pro offers ducking for channel 1 only. You must activate it in Audio>Processing>Ducking.

    • @TimothyMoore

      I’d get a program like MegaSeg to handle the music. It’s a complete radio automation package for not a lot of money. Virtual DJ isn’t really good for running a set up where you need playlist support and automatic fades in the app.

      Same principles apply. Doesn't really need another video. Just set the output of your application to the RCP channel.

  • @balmeros272

    Great video. Although I really do not understand the simple part...
    I've always used 2 x faders for each track on dj daw, 1 x fader for headphone.
    How can you get by with just 1 fader ?
    Maybe I'm missing something ?

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад

      Correct. One of the limitations of the rodecaster is it will only allow one output via USB on ONE fader. It's not designed to be a DJ mixer as such. You can get by on one fader as loads of software will handle the mixing for you. But if you don't like it go complain to them... not me, I didn't make this device - just trying to help as let's be honest - there isn't much else on the market of this calibre vs cost 😃shame they don't have more USB/Soundcard connectivity on pioneer decks etc.

      @@JamesMulvanyTV James not complaining, was unsure if I myself had it wrong, your review is spot on.
      I'm looking for something in that price range which has 2 x faders, compression, record and pre fader.
      Thanks for reply.

    Hi James. Can I connect another audio interface, such as the Zoom Podtrak P8 and it would give the same results as the Rodecaster Pro?

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 года назад

      Think you should be fine with a Podtrak. I've not tried the Zoom P8 yet but hoping to get one for review soon.
