What's phenomenal about this tradition, is to look up the paralel English translations of these Latin chants and follow the meaning as they sing. Powerful meditations and symbolism. Understanding along with the music has far more impact.

This is a 12th century latin hymn, title translated as, "Jesus, The Very Thought Of Thee." Written by St. Bernard of Clairvaux. It's gorgeous...

Magnificent performance. Brings me back to several years ago when a young lady regularly performed a version/variation entitled "How Blessed Are We" during the hymn portion of mass at St. Paul's Church in Cobble Hill Brooklyn.

    Jesu dulcis memoria
    Dans vera cordis gaudia:
    Sed super mel et omnia
    Ejus dulcis praesentia.
    Nil eanitur suavius,
    Nil auditur jucundius,
    Nil eogitatur dulcius,
    Quam Jesus Dei Filius.
    Jesu, spes poenitentibus,
    Quam pius es petentibus!
    Quam bonus te quaerentibus!
    Sed quid invenientibus?
    Nec lingua valet dicere,
    Nec littera exprimere:
    Expertus potest credere,
    Quid sit Jesum diligere.
    Sis, Jesu, nostrum gaudium,

    2) Nil canitur suavius, nil auditur jucundius, nil cogitatur dulcius, quam Jesus Dei Filius.

My mother told me when she was still in the catholic church she listened to these songs when she was young.
I am a penticostal (protestant) and his song lets me wanna think of a united churh with the catholic church as the head and that priests dont have to celibate to become a priest (cause i wanna be a pastor)....
    What the hell xD

Unity without truth is a satanic unity. The Catholic church doesnt provide justification with God. Repent and trust in the FINISHED work of the Lord Jesus.

    IESU, dulcis memoria,
    dans vera cordis gaudia,
    sed super mel et omnia,
    eius dulcis praesentia.
(Jesus! The very thought is sweet!
In that dear Name all heart-joys meet :
But sweeter than the honey far
The glimpses of His Presence are.)
    Nil canitur suavius,
    nil auditur iucundius,
    nil cogitatur dulcius,
    quam Iesus Dei Filius.
( No word is sung more sweet than this :
No name is heard more full of bliss :
No thought brings sweeter comfort nigh,
Than Jesus, Son of God most High.)
    Iesu, spes paenitentibus,
    quam pius es petentibus!
    quam bonus te quaerentibus!
    sed quid invenientibus?
(Jesus the hope of souls forlorn!
How good to them for sin that mourn!
To them that seek Thee, oh how kind!
But what art Thou to them that find?)
    Nec lingua valet dicere,
    nec littera exprimere:
    expertus potest credere,
    quid sit Iesum diligere.
(No tongue of mortal can express,
No letters write its blessedness :
Alone who hath thee in his heart
Knows, love of Jesus ! what thou art.)
    Sis, Iesu, nostrum gaudium,
    qui es futurus praemium:
    sit nostra in te gloria,
    per cuncta semper saecula. Amen.
(O Jesus, may you be our joy,
You who are our future reward.
May our glory be in you
    Throughout all eternity. Amen)

    Jesu dulcis memoria
    Dans vera cordis gaudia:
    Sed super mel et omnia
    Ejus dulcis praesentia.
    Sis, Jesu, nostrum gaudium,

who sings these chants !! ? The voices are so enchanting !! Are these sung by Monks ?

    • @marianquinlan8707
      @marianquinlan8707 5 лет назад +4

MARTIN J.A Monks sing everyday like this. Their goal is to combine their individual voices to sound as one voice.
They practice every day, with no accompaniment, to attain this sound, thus praising God in one accord...awesome, huh!

    • @martinj.a6602
      @martinj.a6602 5 лет назад

marian Quinlan Thanks 😊 . I cant agree more !! The harmony of voices with the background music is truly heavenly! I listen these chants almost everyday. I was just curious at some parts (solo) of these chants , if it’s a lady singing or a young boy ?
