    Your emotional reaction to the elephants was replicated here, eyes full of overflowing salt water!! They're lovely & what a sensible idea to have two just in case.
    Still got my teddy 70 years later & I absolutely love him (& a few friends he still has).
    Thank you for sharing your lives with us, looking forward to seeing you next time.

    It’s so lovely to experience the sounds of a quite cruise with no engine noise!
    It’s great to see you foraging again - do you mark locations of trees/bushes on a map so in the future you can plan stops at certain times to make the most of these gifts from nature? I’d love to see you do some preserving projects with your bounty!
    Impractical gifts for the baby are just as important as the practical ones! Especially when it’s something like baby’s first lovie.

      Hey Claire. It's pretty special isn't - makes such a difference compared to our old chugging engine! We don't actually make a map of our foraging spots...but that's not a bad idea for the more rare varieties! We do have a mental note of the best mushroom patches we've found etc.... maybe a new notebook is in order! x

Your narrowboat looks fantastic in the shade of green you decided on having it along with the cute windows, hope all is going great for you all. I loved the view at the start of the video by the way with the lite mist above the water

    A lovely vlog, your bump is growing quickly! I love the colour of your boat! As someone else has said it is better to wash all foraged items before consuming. Did you recently read of the Australian lady who was found to have a worm living in her brain? She got it because she foraged regularly and accidentally ate an egg that hatched inside her it was a parasitic worm that normally lived in pythons. I know we don’t have pythons in England but we do have other wild animals that also carry parasites that we may catch, so please be very careful! Even domesticated animals parasites can be a big risk to unborn babies, lookup Toxocariasis….it’s the reason why we use flea and worm treatments on our pets so we don’t catch their parasites! However wild animals aren’t treated so there could be a risk. I always soak foraged things in salty water or even in baby bottle sterling solution, rinse thoroughly afterwards.
    Luckily the heat is not normally a problem in this country for long, the rainy season will soon be back! Take care. xxxx

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Год назад +1

      Thanks Shirley. Glad you like the colour - and the bump really is getting bigger!!! We do normally wash our foraged foods... but a blackberry here and there when out and about is rather irresistable! xx

  • @Neverinthekitchen

    Take a wet tea towel or wash cloth and put it in your freezer when it's too hot place it on the back of your neck, it will cool you off quickly. That is what we did in marching band in high school during the hot weather in Texas.

    Thank you for this sweet snapshot of narrowboat life. 🐘
    I'll be watching with interest to see how you manage with just solar during the short, gloomy winter days. Will you have access to shore power on your mooring?
    We have solar and lithium on our sailboat in Indonesia, but even here in the rainy season, we don't get enough light and need to use a portable genny.
    Power is always the big issue on any liveaboard boat of any kind anywhere... And toilets, of course!
    Loving the look of canal and river life, it's so tempting...
    Liz 😊

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Год назад +2

      Hey Liz, thanks for leaving us a comment! Amazing you're in Indonesia onboard. We're going to try and do the winter without any genny - and nope we don't have any shore power on the mooring. We won't be cruising and will have to strip back on consumption in line with the power we can create. Luckily our woodburning stove will heat our water and also be our oven/hob so there's not too much power we'll need to draw. But it'll be a bit of an experiment this winter!!! xx

    • @followtheboat
      @followtheboat Год назад +1

      @@thistinylife Interesting...
      We don't have heating or hot water, but we do have an induction cooker (no oven), fridge (no freezer), bread maker, kettle, rice cooker and my laptop. Washing up and laundry is all by hand.
      Just as a heads up, our biggest draw on power is Jamie's desktop, which he'll use all day when video and stills editing.
      Your wood burner for heat, hot water and cooking is gonna be a blessing.
      Wishing you much good luck, I'll be watching how you get along.
      You have a new sub. Liz 😊🙏

    I thought that the first Baby Toys were sooo cute 🥰.
    Yep,me too,lost my First Baby Toy but it was found later on when my Sister had been found out 😡.
    The Narrowboaters of old used to have a Baby Drawer on the Boat as a Crib but thankfully these days we have Travel Cribs which come in extremely handy,I should mention that I’m a Father of 4 Boys ( all adults now) of various ages so a lot of the Gadgets they had growing up ( best thing ever was the Swinging musical Chair ) but obviously you will be limited for Room and so maybe a Baby Hammock might be a better suited idea ?.
    Car Boot Sales and Market Place will be brilliant for you for all the Baby stuff and clothes because every parent,first time or otherwise always ends up with more babygrows than the Baby can wear before they Grow Out of them Lol 😂.
    My Youngest Son is recently a First Time Father himself and himself and his GF are finding out about the benefits of People selling Stuff,they bought a £1000 Pram/Pushchair/Car Seat Second Hand but Brand New ( never used ) for £300 because somebody’s Grandparents had ended up buying 2 ?!!.
    The thing that was the most important part of the beginning of having a Newborn was definitely a Good Steriliser and plenty of Bottles and Tops of varying sizes,work to the proviso of one set of bottles in the steriliser and one set in the wash and one set in the fridge ( then they had to be put in the fridge but I believe that isn’t always the case these days ? ) if you are going to be going down the formula route,don’t go mad buying it, just get one tin of each or get one of each of the ready made cartons ! The Baby might not get on with SMA and prefer Cow + Gate…. Also some Babies get Colic with different brands so be prepared to do a bit of experimenting.
    If you think you are emotionally now,just wait until the first time you see the Baby but are then holding them ! It’s impossible to explain the emotions but it is life changing and you think it’s impossible to Love a Little Baby so much but you are literally fit to bursting with Happiness and Joy and Love when they are in your arms the first time.❤

    Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I haven't seen it. Do you have an emergency backup source of electricity? I would think the drain of cruising during the winter would overwhelm the solar panels' ability to recover.

      My thoughts exactly.

    • @thistinylife
      @thistinylife  Год назад +1

      Hey - nope we're going to see how we get on but the plan is to just rely on our solar panels, which means stripping back on consumption in the winter. We have a mooring so we don't plan on cruising much in the winter. Our stove will provide our hot water, heat, as well as our cooking - so we're feeling hopeful we'll make it through. But it'll be our first winter being fully solar panelled so let's see!!!!

    • @theotherstevesteve

      I'm getting less than 500 wh per kilowatt of solar per day in the depths of winter. Though that is at a steep angle SE facing and without trees. I'm not sure that would be enough for an hour's propulsion per week.

    Hi Guys. Gabby,if you are going to be eating foraged Fruit then you really need to wash it first or better leave to soak for Ten minutes in a slightly salty water and then rinse with cold fresh water…unfortunately we like fruit off the trees but so do Birds and Mice and Rats,unfortunately all animals and insects tend to wee and poop as they eat and there are some nasty bugs that they can carry and of course in your present condition,best being safe.
