To me, the cubes partially function as an avatar of the character. They may not have perfect flat sides, but I think that’s usually by design. For example, this character has translucent interior panels that only show in box mode, and with the squiggly gaps you get a sense of its serpentine form.
I love these figures and wouldn't even know about them if not for you! Some of my favorite things to fidget with. White Noise is my absolute favorite!
