I just get a kick out of Roy. Seems like a family friend who visits regularly for nearly 40 years. He has probably bled more than anyone else ever on television. Neat to see his place. Thanks!

I'm guessing the floors throughout are wall-to-wall carpet.

LMAO. Give Roy a break guys!! He's still working on the deck. I'm sure he will replace the folding card table and Walmart plastic chairs in due time.

If I could, I would like to ask Roy about pit sawing. Actually, my question is more about ripping boards with a two man saw whereby the log is in an upright position. An old timer from the Upper Ottawa Valley swears that a pioneer in these parts, back in the day, operated a man powered sawmill where the men could stand opposite each other to rip through the log. I Googled this, and nothing convincing turned up. The pit-saw seems to be the only logical method for ripping boards, without a water powered mill. Does Roy know about this method of ripping upright logs?

It doesn't really sound feasible to me since it would be harder than doing it the traditional way with a raised platform or a pit. It would probably be harder to secure the log while it is being sawn.

He's old enough to see it happen, like me in Chicago. Winters are later and about 2 months shorter. Springs are wetter and not snowy like they used to be. Summer and Fall are hotter. In reality, it's much easier to live here than 50 years ago.
