This song is utterly amazing and Donna Summer's version of it is the definitive one. Her voice, Quincy Jones's production and the gospel choir (if it is a gospel choir) send shivers up my spine.
Quincy Jones assembled an all-star choir for Summer's recording, including Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, Christopher Cross, Dyan Cannon, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins and Stevie Wonder. Jones has claimed that this song laid the foundation for the group effort "We Are The World," which was written by Jackson and Richie and was produced by Jones, who called upon many more of his famous friends for help.

Love Donna and all she brought to us. I actually, literally ran into her in the service elivater at Harrahs in S.L. Tahoe. She was appearing that night in the show room. Thats back when the casinos were really a fun place to go, even if you dont gamble. I was working as a houseman for the hotel. what a memory that is.
Just found out: Summer's version is notable for its all-star choir which included Lionel Richie, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Brenda Russell, Christopher Cross, Dyan Cannon, James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, and Stevie Wonder.
For someone who's had this song burned into my DNA for over three decades, this mix initially seemed somewhat like a badly skipping record, HOWEVER, I found it compelling and could not stop listening to it; obviously a labor of love. So, Johnny MFan, I thank you.

Don't write this magnificent tune off, just because a "Disco Lady", Donna Summer covered it ! Some very important info on this tune, which many may not know >> Not only was the original tune written by Jon Anderson (of YES) & Vangelis, it was produced by Quinsy Jones & was the tune which inspired Quincy Jones & Lionel Richie to produce the phenomenal, We are the World, tune ! Can anyone tell me what the freak this song is about? Sometimes the lyrics indicate it’s religious, sometimes a nation, sometimes a race, and more. Or, is it just meant to be a homage to past patriotic songs, and the lyrics are meant to be jingoistic gibberish?
Not sure neither. Jon Vangeleis wrote it , whoever he is. Some people like Bono of U2 say it is amongst the gretaest songs ever. Donnas vocals so understated are superb but I think she had much better songs than this.
@@johnnymfan5065 I agree with all of that, even though I don’t know Donna Summer’s entire output- this almost sounds more like a show tune that a pop or dance song. It may not be her best, but it’s sure ahell catchy and memorable. I’m guessing that a lot of the sound of this is due to the producer, Quincey Jones (Lesly Gore, Michael Jackson The Wiz movie). Like much of Jackson’s songs it a pretty simple tune, with seemingly, meaningless lyrics, but it sounds great
intro is too long here and a tad repetitive in parts.. should only be 1.30 to 1.50 or so long . and reverbs in the right place can be good but not too often .. good work otherwise
The original version was written by Jon Anderson and Vangelis from the album the friends of Mr Cairo which was released in 1981, Quincy Jones had nothing to do with it.
...... well, now, a first ...... we always, always, slow all music down (0.90 etc.) to perfect the song, so this is our only among many thousands that we speed up..... 01.05 in this case ......Donna may be almost unrecognizable, or not, but she nails this hook dead on ...... far superior to Jon Anderson, if such a thing is possible ............. from (05:55 on) ..............
She looks horrible in this photo- Francesco scavullo took terrible shots of her- he’s an old business associate/ said she was very insecure about her looks - she always perceived herself as being an ugly duckling
Rubbish remix. Completely destroys the flow of the melody. 3 minutes of redubbed intro just made me want to turn it off. Leave well alone in future mate.
Well after sending. This to a few producers who I’m sure you would know if I stated them. The whole opinion is that it’s a good job. And Ibiza beaches and beach clubs loved it.
The long into is just a waste of time...as unkamort says, maybe it would be useful on a dance floor so a DJ can mix from another song the rest is ok.. but it does lose its building flow
