I hope we get more real-world scenes throughout and that it doesn't just use that as a framing device
I wish it could have been just a normal story of a musician and his art, I’d kind of like to see a Pixar movie without any fantastical elements to them. It would really change up the pace since there are a lot of people who think the quality of their films have gone down lately, mostly because of the fact that they have been making so many sequels that didn’t need to exist. Other than incredibles 2, but you know, it wasn’t the best thing ever.
ThatGuyKnownAsWill That's what I was hoping for too. An animated movie centered around an adult wanting to be a musician and doesn't have any talking animals or princesses, that sound's unique of them. Then, he fell down that manhole and "SiLLy KAUboy DensE" made me lose interest.

stephanie carter yes. Kids aren’t idiots who constantly need fart jokes constantly in front of them to keep them occupied. (Edit) And I’m not saying there has to be no childlike humor but focusing on it in a trailer is usually a bad sign.
stephanie carter chill out steph, he was just saying kids aren’t only entertained by silly dances or whatever. the incredibles was my favourite film at 8 and there was never a point where they used dumb humour. the reason people like pixar so much is because they don’t talk down to the audience, both kids and adults can enjoy them for separate reasons
stephanie carter There’s nothing wrong with jokes intended for kids, as long as they don’t interrupt the tone of a story, and I personally think that that’s why a lot of people are disappointed with it. An example of this is the Shrek series, which is a surprisingly dark and mature series with dark jokes, but it also has childish jokes to convey the gross aspects of ogres, which don’t distract from but instead add to the story.

I thought that we were gonna have another story about finding your dreams or whatever, but with a less child-like perspective and with a somewhat serious tone, that still came with it’s fair share of comedy. It seemed really interesting and I actually wanted to see it!
And then it just had to turn into yet another movie about fuzzy animals... it didn’t even introduce the plot.
If they left that “twist” out, I believe it would have been a more meaningful and inspiring movie.
I'm pretty sure that's not a "twist" and it is actually how most of the movie will look like.
Ashley That “twist” refers to the abrupt change in setting and character feeling. It went from pretty jazzy and inspirational to Trolls-style goofy in less than 5 seconds.

What twist? Him dying or having a near death experience that causes us to meet his soul clearly isn’t a “twist” in this movie. A movie called “Soul” about our souls featuring cartoon souls shouldn’t have been a twist to you and will probably still make for quite a meaningful movie. I think that you’re just not very bright.
Amiinova and like the other guy said, it's not a twist. It's that vast majority of the movie. That would like saying Tony stark becoming Ironman is a twist.

It could have been about his journey through life and the city, finding his passion and working hard towards accomplishing something that would leave a mark on the world. The struggle he must endure, be inspired top chase his dreams, and become a motivation to those around him.
It could've been done better. Going for the cartoonist style, alien-creature twist isn't really what I was expecting.
Sorry, but I thought Disney had finally made something a bit more serious and meaningful. Guess I was wrong.

This movie really is trying to get people to appreciate life a little more and not sit there and be pessimistic about every aspect of life. It sorta work but didn't, I myself before this movie came out really did already reflect on life before, so seeing Pixar themselves put out a more profound film such as this made me thoroughly happy. I watched the film and it was a more deeper film than most of their other works, and I praise it.
Humans always complain about their life sucking but it's always the societal part of life (interacting with other humans or societal standards), but soul covers life itself. The ability to move and view the Earth, and it's something Joe never really stopped to appreciate.
