We bought a parakeet about 9 months ago. We have never seen a talking parakeet, but we thought we would at least try to see if he could talk. We started with, Pretty Bird and Kiss Kiss." He never seemed to be interested in talking. Then one day, he just started talking. He started with Kiss Kiss and Pretty Bird. Even thou we didn't attempt to teach him anything else, he just started picking up words. He loves to watch the Kiwi videos on RUclips. Now he started saying, "Kiwi, Good Bird just like Kiwi." He also picked up a warbling noise from Kiwi. So, Kiwi taught our bird how to say a few words. Our bird, "Petey," knows allot of words that he mostly picked up on his own. He mixes the words up and makes different sentences out of them (which I don't know is normal or not...?) He says things that we've never taught him, such as, "Trick or Treat.." Anyway, I just thought I'd pass that along...
So cute 😄 our male.budgie also picks up random words from us and videos, and makes sentences lol

It's not terribly unusual for them to make up new sentences, but it is rare and shows Petey is a very smart boy :) I have two girls, and they don't speak nor have I tried to teach them, but Iris can mime a lot of noises, from local bird calls (apologies horny sparrows, you can't mate with my parrot) to simple tunes I whistle. She sings all day, it makes me so happy to see her chirp since she's a rescue from a very neglected home.

Aww that's adorable!! Yes, I have heard of budgies doing that where the Mish mosh words a d sentences they've learned or heard. My Dad's parakeet growing up used to say " time for dinner!" He was the taught that but he just picked it up after hearing my grandmother say it so much.

I had a Budgie that I found in my backyard back in 2009. Never found his owner so he became mine! He was literally a Birdie Tape Recorder! Talked up a storm and even imitated his bird brother, my Conrue, to a tee!! Males are more likely to talk as this guy is a male, which you can tell by the blue at the top of his beak. WHAT an absolute joy he is!! 😀😀😍😍☺️☺️🥰🥰💜💜

Aww!! This made me wanna cry! My budgie used to go crazy for cans. He'd attack your hand if you tried to take his can away and when he'd get his can back he'd get all poofy! I really miss him. Thank you for your videos! They remind me a lot of my budgie and they bring back fond memories.

Kiwi is simply amazing with his large vocabulary of words! And he is as he gazes at his reflection in the can, he is a "cute baby bird"!! 😊🐦💚💚
I play Kiwi's videos for my birds and they always get so excited when I do! I have two little parakeets and although they don't talk yet, they always chirp along to Kiwi :) so adorable and such a smart little bird.

As a young boy I had a budgie who loved to talk to my fingernail and tick against it with his little beak. Now comes the fun part: tick back, using the same ticking pattern. Then he went reeeeally enthusiastic and chatty. Maybe Kiwi will do the same 😁😊

No, and I have no idea! Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Bakes You can’t potty-train a budgie. They will shit wherever they want. Also you can’t be taming two budgies ‘at once’, taming involves building trust, and trust is individual. You still have to work with each budgie to get them used to you and make them step up on your finger.

Charlene Viana. If he is sitting comfortably with you(=he trusts you) it’s already a good start. Say the same word(s) or short sentences 30/50 times slowly. Stop if he seems to lose interest or flies away. Repeat that a couple of times each day. Stay patience and keep in mind that he may NOT learn to talk.
You could play videos of other parakeets talking and maybe he’ll pick it up from there too?
