I do think the luxe side looks more polished. Mainly, bc of the cheeks. I don’t see bronzer on either, nor the inexpensive highlighter. But the inexpensive side looks like way too much blush and too bright. The expensive blush looks beautiful and subtle. I also think the Chanel lipstick looks much more polished. Still, other than the blush, I think your inexpensive side is an incredibly beautiful look, especially for those on a budget. Thank you! Yours are by far the best beauty videos on the Internet! 💕

Personally, I feel like the expensive side of the cheek looks a lot more polished, sophisticated, and seamless than the drugstore side

I feel like there are so many great products at the drugstore. Imo, where drugstore makeup REALLY falls down is shade ranges - particularly for dark skinned folks - and eyeshadow formulations. There aren't THAT many good shadow formulas at the drugstore, cream or otherwise, as compared to high end.

the blush and bronzer are definitely what made the drugstore side look....drugstore

I like the bronzer side done with the Physician’s Formula better. At least on me, products fade over time and the Patrick Ta would be pretty much gone in a couple of hours. I love this kind of video. It really demonstrates that once you have an aesthetic established, there are good options for spending less money to get that look. I don’t think more expensive products are budget killers unless a person enjoys buying lots and lots of makeup instead of just the right one.

I love the sheer glow foundation from nars. I don’t know how similar it is to the Georgia Armani but it seems to have the same amount of coverage, is buildable to full coverage, and photographs so beautifully. It’s still expensive but saves you money compared to the luminous silk foundation. Then next tier up from Armani would be the Koh gen doh foundation. Would be interesting to see foundations from the same vein but different price points in a video as a save or splurge video

I prefer the high end/luxury side, it's just more melted, soft, sophisticated look than the harsh drugstore. I'm lucky to be able to afford luxury items and I curate my collection rather than buy countless cheap products to try and make them look good or to imitate the luxury products. Rather save up for one product than buy 10 average ones.

    • @westiemae

I need to adopt (and stick to) this mindset. I often start off this way and then meander back over to the drugstore world for the cheap thrills.

completely unasked for recommendation, but I picked up the Kiko Milano colour lasting creamy eyeshadow (I got the shade rosy silver 07) on a whim and fell in love with it. This is such a hidden gem, and my immediate thought was that Amanda would really like it. It is sort of like the hourglass scattered light (i also have the colour smoke) in texture, but creamier and more pigmented, and I actually prefer the kiko ones. There are a couple of colors that I think are Amanda colours, so if you want a cheap thrill that is gorgeous I really recommend this. i don't know why more people aren't talking about this. It is such a great product! (I am not paid by Kiko btw, this was just such a lovely surprise. Love a budget product that performs like a high end one. the packaging is not to shabby either). Right rave over.

sammy soppy More pigment isn't always better. I think the real thing here is the consumer is different, on the one hand you have younger people who can't afford luxury items but also like high coverage and more pigment in everything. While the older generation want less coverage and less pigment so the products don't cling to their wrinkles and so they don't have to fuss with the makeup to make it look good. I currently have one high coverage foundation that I have to be very careful with, otherwise it looks cakey and cling to my dry patches even though am oily.

LOVED this video and the concept of comparing and contrasting. I am really curious about how everything looked say, five hours later. I 5hink that’s the true test of whether a product can compete with its high end equivalent. Something must be sacrificed to give that lower price, usually it’s performance over time. I think brands are savvier with products being strong at swatch and initial application, but I think wear time and lasting power is often reduced. Would love like a check in down the line to see how things fared. Xxxxx

That's the only time I felt compelled to fork out the money for Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk (my PERFECT match, shade 4) for $45.00. Now I am on the hunt for something more affordable, but getting nowhere. My skin seems to hate makeup these days. Especially mascara. Everything clumps and gets gummy on me. That Chanel mascara is a hefty price! I think I need more natural ingredients in my older age. Kosas and Ilia are what I am researching now. I need hydration, but dislike a dewy face.

Amanda, I value and trust your opinion so much that when I want to try a new product I come to your channel to see if you've talked about it! Thank you! Also- I adore the Essence mascara but it has been causing a bit of fall out/raccoon eyes. Does this happen to anyone else? Does anyone have any tips on preventing it? Thanks in advance for your help!

loreal age perfect hydra nutrition day cream is a dupe for the mercier face base, and won’t break the bank.. anyways i wanna see a video where you do a face and have ppl guess which is drug store and which is high end cause whether people realize it or not, a lot of people fall prey to the higher end is better because of marketing and perceived luxury when a lot of products are very similar, and a lot of high end youre paying for fancy packaging, fragrance and a perception of being better cause you could afford to spend more. I wanna see what people TRULY like without having that bias already in their mind. I am of the belief that it’s practically impossible to tell the two apart side by side for the average person. pigments are pigments. also, high end brands charging that much money for little pigment should be criminal. I want color payoff period. if i want a lighter look I can just use less, but at least gimme what I pay for. but once again that shows the bias that exists, that higher end is better so being ripped off on pigment is ok.
the only times drug store fails compared to high end imo is on shade ranges for foundations etc. but they are getting better. and I do love me some high end stuff too don’t get me wrong, but I just think it’s impossible to do these videos without the high end bias showing through.

What SPF do you wear under your makeup? I find it’s just super difficult to apply some makeup products over my SPF. I feel like too many makeup videos I watch don’t include SPF as part of their routine or don’t show it on camera and applying SPF after other skincare and before makeup is always the step that messes up my makeup look which is why I go without it sometimes 😬

I don't know why I can't make the Essence Lash Princess work for me. It just looks clumpy and it flakes off so bad within a few hours.
Before anybody says to use less of it, or smudge it off a tissue first, or use a zigzag motion, or comb my lashes first, or to let it dry between layers, or to just use one layer, or warm it up in a glass of warm water, or wait for it to dry out for a couple of weeks, or add some eye drops to it, or to powder my undereyes and eyelid, or to moisturize more, or to buy a fresh tube, I've tried all of that.

I personally LOVE the Patrick Ta contour and bronzer! It's SO damn gorgeous. I love sheer products or just more natural looking makeup. Especially bronzer because I'm very fair in skin tone I used to hate bronzer because they were always too dark and looked muddy on me up until the last few years when they started coming out with lighter bronzers and some sheer powders. Everyone is different though. I am in love with that highlighter but I can't afford that price tag and I'm sad lol does anyone know of a dupe or something similar? I want that beautiful glossy look! It can be a different undertone but I want that glass like, dewy glow! It can even be a more high end product but not THAT high end! 😂
