    What a time to be alive, this is what entertainment was. The man sang beautifully, did IMPROV, danced, did crowd work and had a bit of stand up inside one of his most cherished songs ever. These days it's all about being the loudest, and if you have any talent that's comes second. Where have we gone soo wrong.

      I'm a dancer, Lady, and I'll tell you that there is nothing "quirky" in how Bobby danced, it's all an offhanded display of effortless ability, a reflection of his innate musical nature. If you search around, you can probably find some video of him dancing with a formation group. He WAS a dancer, a REAL THING dancer, and could have done great things with dance productions if he had lived longer.

      @@vancouverterry9142 Well, lady, the woman in question may not be referring to the traditional dance moves, but the purposefully comedic movements I liked to add in as well. Even if not, I never claimed to be a dancer. I was a singer and a musician, I moved to the music in a way that felt genuine. I do appreciate your positive opinion and defense of my dancing, but I never expected to be complimented on my dancing after a performance. It was their to enhance and add to my real talent which was my singing ability

    "Beyond The Sea" is a song by the French composer, lyricist, singer and showman Charles TRENET (1913-2001). Bobby DARIN made this song a great masterpeace: jazz swinging a lot!!! Brilliant interpretation!!! He was a fantastic crooner!!! It's a pity Bobby DARIN passed away so young (37yo).

    • @vin.handle

      Trenet wrote nearly 1,000 songs, music and lyrics, of which nearly a dozen became international standards. Including this one which he wrote on a train trip in France in a matter of minutes as he was gazing out the window at the sea.

    Ahhh Bobby had it all -- he was a singer and a real good dancer. I've seen a video of him dancing in a jazz formation group and speaking as a dancer myself, I see him as one of those music-loving types who is a born dancer who can translate musical feelings into dance action. And he played instruments as well, so that's three out of three by my books: singer, dancer and musician. I hope Bobby had big doses of heaven during his life where his gifts really let his spirit fly before his untimely death.

      @vancouverterry9142 2 года назад +4

      @@annettebohl901 True -- he was a great, lamentably short-lived, but a multi-dimensional GREAT. I remember how mid-way through his rise there was a lot of speculation that he would surpass Frank Sinatra. Sinatra really brought a lot to life by doing things like going down into the band pit and cutting it up with a horn player or some other soloist. Bobby's approach was a touch more playful and I would have loved to see what he would have done over the years in terms of cutting it up and exchanging quotes with the cats or working with supporting dance groups. I think Bobby's sense of style was a lot of the springboard for the crooners who sing his bag and will inspire many a top-level crooner for the rest of their lives. In his way, he was a walking world of music, dance, art, and class showmanship. Thank you, Bobby! We'll always be inspired and uplifted by your artistry!

    Bobby was absolutely brilliant and could perform any genre (rock, jazz, folk, big band, - even movie/contemporary music of early 70s such as "Happy" from Lady Sings the Blues movie) as if the any of those genres were his "trademark genre"- it was truly that effortless for Bobby to "mix it up" and if you listen to songs such as "If I were a Carpenter" or "Simple Song of Freedom" (folk); "Mack the Knife", "Up the Lazy River" or "Gyp the Cat" (Jazzy); "Black Coffee" (moodier jazz style); "Splish Splash" (Rock); "Hello Dolly" (show tunes); "Beyond the Sea" (as here) or "More than the Greatest Love" (Big Band/Swing; and "Happy" early 1970s /contemporary movie soundtrack. He also had an incredibly mesmerizing physical presence on stage - there was no doubt when he performed that he owned the stage like a very few have -- and you are so right to compare him to Sammy Davis Jr. ! Bobby's dancing and stage moves were beyond captivating to watch. And also he had a genius IQ/very gifted intellect -- and it extended down to his toes ! And what makes this all the more wondrous is that to Bobby, entertaining was his passion, as he believed his audience deserved nothing less than the highest caliber of performance, and this also tied into his ambitious nature knowing his life would be cut short by his heart condition, he worked tirelessly until the very end when he had a severe heart valve deterioration that ultimately took his life. I could watch him perform for hours on end. Thank you for posting this wonderful content !

    Darin was the last born of the true big band jazz singers. He could have held his own with anyone from the 30s to the 50s. Of course, there are talented people nowadays who can do the singing, but he had the FEEL that they don’t have. The stories of how sick he actually was most of the time are pretty sad. It’s amazing. He lived as long as he did.

    If you listen, you might not realise it, but Darin's voice was a very wide range. I wonder if this was Darin's last ever TV performance, as his last gig was in Las Vegas in September of 1973, and he died from the heart surgery complications in December of that same year. A shame too, but the rheumatic fever he suffered from really hurt him, to the point where he also had to rely on bottled oxygen. But other than that, Darin did have an excellent voice, one that nobody will ever forget.
