I assume the bottom layer (cardboard?) is just a template of the tunnel to help you construct it, is that right? Is the intention then to take this piece and glue it into the car? Have you have ever seen or used a system where the carpet uses snaps to clip the carpet into place instead? Thanks for the video!
This is just a mock-up made out of cardboard for educational purpose. It gives us an idea how a car floor carpet is shaped and cut. Snaps are useful to keep the carpet in place. Some tar strips or other adhesives are useful too. www.amazon.com/Double-Sided-Carpet-Sticky-Tape/dp/B07DW4SR5M?language=en_US
Thanks for the tips. Very helpful and nicely explained. I will definitely use your technique, however I am a bit afraid that it won't be that easy inside the car :)
Dear Deniz, The cutting techniques on a real car are similar. If you want to sew the cut edges together do not forget to give the sewing allowance on the wrong side of carpet. In this video I only show the cuts but not the sewing process. These basic videos are the basis to understand a real demonstration I will do on a real car floor. Before the real demonstration I have to upload another basic video that shows two paralell cuts done on front part. it is mostly used on trucks that have the transmission tunnel not so protruded. If you just want to lay the carpet with its cuts over the floor it also works out. The only thing I would recommend is to get a good carpet that does not fray the wool edges.
It is called 'carpet underlay' also used as padding on car seats over a row of wires and springs. Upholstery suppliers sell special carpet underlays for a better insulation.
Thanks to You Tube I am glad to pass on some of my upholstery knowledge to let this craft increase. Furthermore, I enjoy a lot with my hobby posting the videos. Thanks so much for kind comment!

@@Cechaflo thanks alot for your reply, my question was about the one was used specifically in the video , your link is helpful i had to do some research from your links , is it superflex non woven ?
In minute 0:46 we can see it is been sewn down on reverse side. It is necesary to give the required seam allowance. I will do a video on a real car floor applying these basic techniques. The cuts are important to give the shape to transmission tunnel. If I would use a thick and hard carpet I only could do the cuts and lay it down over the floor with some glue below.
I glue down when it is necessary to avoid the sliding of the carpet. Regularly the under layer padding is glued down to the backside of the carpet. The under layer is also attached to the car floor with 'points' of glue to unstick easier if necessary. Sometimes I use tar strips to fasten the carpet to the metal floor. I sometimes almost glue the whole backside provided I am using a good carpet. Bad carpets easily fray and tear down while unsticking. Thanks for the beautiful tutorial, this is what I was looking for to do up my cat. One question i have after you have cut the carpet, what do you do to put them together - glue the pieces or sew them together. And either way that area will have double layer, do you thin down the carpet in that area. Thanks again for a nice tutorial.
At he beginning of the video you can see the cut edges were sewn down (do not forget include allowance) The edges of carpet material can be sewn together easily. It looks like it is very hard but it is not...they are very soft, believe me! These basics can be applied on a real car carpet floor. Thanks so much for watching the videos!

Upholstery is overly creative and includes a great variety of projects to perform. The problem is get free time to post the videos. Thanks for watching!

Great tutorial! Where can one purchase a 2' x 2' section of this type of flooring?

What's the name of the material that's under the carpet. The one that looks like a ragg
It is called 'carpet underlay' also used as padding on car seats over a row of wires and springs. Upholstery suppliers sell special carpet underlays for a better insulation.
How do you share your tricks & secrets with us !!! You're so kind person
Thanks to You Tube I am glad to pass on some of my upholstery knowledge to let this craft increase. Furthermore, I enjoy a lot with my hobby posting the videos.
Thanks so much for kind comment!
@@Cechaflo thank you so much now I know what I want to do when I retire
What this carpet type/name used in the video please?
It is called 'automotive trim carpet' which can be molded/shaped to a car floor by doing cuts on certain parts. The 'cuts' are then sewn down on the edges. There are 'heat molding carpets' that have a thick plastic on the reverse and are shaped by using a 'big hydraulic embossing press'. These do not need any sewing.

@@Cechaflo thanks alot for your reply, my question was about the one was used specifically in the video , your link is helpful i had to do some research from your links , is it superflex non woven ?
Awesome video
Nice job having so much trouble with a 2001 honda accord aftermarket carpet but it's a one piece need help
Do you sew those seams up? Or just glue them down in the car?
In minute 0:46 we can see it is been sewn down on reverse side. It is necesary to give the required seam allowance. I will do a video on a real car floor applying these basic techniques.
The cuts are important to give the shape to transmission tunnel. If I would use a thick and hard carpet I only could do the cuts and lay it down over the floor with some glue below.
Damn man, thanks for the video, I have a 64 Lincoln that I have to use custom carpet due to a raised driveline tunnel
Dear friend, I am so glad the video is useful!
Thanks for watching!
Good job
Great video, thanks!
How did you build a transmission tunnel template?
I have used a hard cardboard (same used for packaging) to make the mock-up trying to replicate a classic car floor
Thank you. Viewers, don’t forget to like and comment
If a car is got airbags in seat is it necessary to remove the negatives terminal of battery.
Yes, it is necessary.

So do you glue on the backside
I glue down when it is necessary to avoid the sliding of the carpet. Regularly the under layer padding is glued down to the backside of the carpet. The under layer is also attached to the car floor with 'points' of glue to unstick easier if necessary.
Sometimes I use tar strips to fasten the carpet to the metal floor.
I sometimes almost glue the whole backside provided I am using a good carpet. Bad carpets easily fray and tear down while unsticking.

You have some awesome skills my friend!
Let me know when you have inventory for a 1974 camaro carpet!
You could get a molded one which are sturdier than trim carpets car upholsterers work with.

@@Cechaflo Hello Friend, thank for reverting back. Yes yes there is stitching that I had forgotten to look at. This makes life easy and I will most likely do the work my self, all thanks to you 😊 🙏🙏🙏
@@manishalive Try to sew one time and do not use short stitches. Try to sew with maximum stitch length of your machine.

How do you join the edges?
At the beginning of the video I show the cut edges were sewn down by using a sewing machine. These roughdraft samples only show how the most common cuts on trim carpets are done. In a near future, I will show the complete process on a real car floor. It will be a course.

I am glad to share some of my upholstery knowledge!
